Darren Lewis was born in Cardiff in 1975 and now lives with his family in Norfolk. Although an avid reader of many genres it wasn’t until his daughter, Ellie aged 6, asked for a story of her own that inspired him to put pen to paper.
“Ellie and I would like to make up bedtime stories, mainly about a kangaroo that travelled the world and have adventures.”
These bedtime stories would lead to a first book in the trilogy. ‘Ellie and the Rabbits’ in which our young heroine meets a group of talking rabbits.
“My main goals were to induce a sense of wonder for my daughter, a sense of purpose and the importance of helping others.”
A short book of poems for children followed and the sequel ‘Ellie and the Dragon’ was published in August and the trilogy was completed and published in December 2013 in ‘Ellie and the Battle.’
The independent publishers Creativia added the books into their portfolio in early 2014 and published then as an omnibus edition entitled The Seren Trilogy.
The next series of Ellie’s adventures is now being released. Three of the five planned books in the Baiulus series have been published, Vengeance of Shadows, The Oncoming Storm and Sacrifice of Angels. The story is set four years after the original trilogy. After the series is complete the plan currently is to end Ellie’s story with another trilogy.
When not writing Darren can be found walking the coastlines of Norfolk or painting and crafting with a particular fondness for steampunk, a subject he hopes to write about soon.

I was born in New Zealand and began my journalism career on The New Zealand Herald. I later worked for The Sydney Morning Herald and the Melbourne Herald before being hired by Reuter, working for the agency in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Malaysia and Indonesia.

My first success with a novel was The Peking Payoff, which was published in hard cover in 1975 by Macmillan Inc. in New York and in paperback by Hamlyn. Hamlyn subsequently published The Seizing of Singapore, Deadline in Jakarta and An H-Bomb for Alice. In 1988, I self-published Reunion, also a novel.
Following my ten years as a freelance correspondent, from 1991 to 2001, based first in Singapore and then Malaysia, I wrote The Mahathir Legacy, a non-fiction work, which was published in Australia in 2003 by Allen & Unwin.
My epic Asian saga, Nanyang – published as both an Amazon (Kindle) eBook and as a CreateSpace) paperback – reflects my interest in the history of East Asia, where I have spent so much of my adult life, and the emigration of Chinese to South-East Asia, among them the ancestors of my wife Truus The Tiang Nio.

I have started on a new novel, which is a marked shift in setting from my earlier Asia-oriented (no pun intended) works. The period is the 1930s in New Zealand, which provides an opportunity for me to incorporate memories of my childhood.

Few girls have not imagined themselves as princesses waiting for a dashing warrior in shining armor to rescue them. It was the age of heroes.
It is therefore no wonder then that even centuries later, the medieval age is period of time that is an almost inexhaustible source of inspiration. From the Game of Thrones, Knight’s Tale to Dragon Heart, countless Hollywood hits and bestsellers have been based on this age. And it is easy to predict that this trend will continue for at least decades to come.
When I set out to write this book, I will have to admit, I was but indulging my passion for the language of this period. Researching and compiling these terms was more pleasure than work. However, that does not detract (another medieval word) from the general usefulness of this book. Consider this not just as a glossary of medieval terms but as a valuable resource for researchers, writers, poets, playwrights and medieval maniacs. It is designed not just to tell you the meaning of the words but also to provide a conduit of rich insights into this age. It is through its language that the medieval age comes alive yet again. When I’m not writing, I’m daydreaming. Thankfully, I have an understanding husband and son who know I’ll re-join the land of the living just as soon as my muse decides it’s quitting time. I don’t work for myself. I work for her. She’s the boss. And I’m okay with that.
