Biography of R.E. (Bob) McDermott
I grew up on the Gulf Coast and a seagoing career just came naturally. After graduation from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, I sailed as a ship’s officer for a number of years and then spent a decade in shore side ship management before becoming an independent (i.e. self-employed) marine surveyor in 1986. Some years later I formed a company specializing in ship construction management and supervision. I’ve been a lot of places, seen interesting things, and lived for extended periods in both South America and the Far East (Singapore and China). By far the most interesting aspect of travel (and life in general) is the people you meet along the way, and I’ve had the good fortune to encounter a lot of interesting characters. Bits and pieces of some of them make their way into the characters of my novels.
I write the type of stories I like to read. For me, that means ordinary people forced by circumstances into extraordinary situations. I dislike stories in which the hero is some combination of brain surgeon/nuclear physicist (or who has some equally far-fetched skill set) and who just coincidentally happens to be an ace helicopter pilot and a fifth degree black belt in several different martial arts. Like the rest of us mortals, my characters are normal people who screw up from time to time and have to live with the results.
I’m currently retired from the marine business and living in Tennessee with my lovely (and patient) wife of 39 years. Our current and mutual ambition is to return to Singapore for several months each year. In addition to writing and travel, I occasionally (when cornered) complete a task on my ‘honey do’ list, and from time to time, join my wife in badgering our children to produce grandchildren. All in all, a rewarding life.

Prolific novelist and thinker, Shlomo Kalo, one of the very few Israeli writers nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature, has published 80 titles in a variety of genres and themes.
Kalo was born in 1928 in Sofia, Bulgaria. He joined the anti-Fascist underground before reaching his teens and wound up in a concentration camp at the age of 15. After studying medicine and working as a journalist in Prague, and training as a pilot for Mahal, he immigrated to Israel in 1949. He was awarded an MSc in microbiology from Tel Aviv University in 1958. For 26 years and until his retirement, he worked as regional director of medical laboratories.
In 1969, a sharp turn in his life occurred. It subsequently affected his life, his thoughts and his highly prolific literary activity. Shlomo Kalo wrote 80 titles, some of which were translated and published in 16 countries. He wrote novels, short fiction, literature for younger readers, non-fiction (philosophy, spirituality), a thriller and more. His short stories appeared in probably all literary magazines in Israel and the media often covered his writings and thoughts. Between the years 2006-2014 he was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature. In July, 2015 his title THE CHOSEN became a bestseller in the category of Historical Fiction at Amazon. Shlomo Kalo died peacefully in his house on 8.30.2014. His last words were: “Everything is excellent for he who is not subjugated”.

The weather has become unseasonably cold. The Hordes create many problems, but the main one is over population causing food shortages.

Craig left fulltime education aged eighteen and began a career in retail. At the age of 28 he found his true vocation after buying into a small printing business. After 13 years of blood, sweat, and holding back the tears, he sold up to pursue his dream.
In May 2002 Craig, his wife Melanie, and their pet dog Jazz, squeezed all their worldly goods into their aging executive saloon and headed off to Spain. Not for them the tourist packed Costas of the Mediterranean coast or the hills of Andalusia, no, they headed for Galicia – a remote and little known region in the northwest corner of Spain.
Craig began writing a weekly column for an online magazine in 2004. Over the last few years he has written a number of articles for the Trinity Mirror Group and online publications such as CNN, My Destination, and Insiders Abroad.
In 2013 Craig published his first travel memoir, Journey to a Dream. It tells the story of a turbulent first 12 months in Galicia.
His latest book, Beyond Imagination, reveals their continuing adventures as they settle in to their new home and surroundings.
As well as writing, Craig and his wife Melanie own a traditional Galician farmhouse which they rent to tourists from around the world. He’s also an enthusiastic wine maker and currently works two small vineyards.

About Mystery: Missing by S. C. King:
During Jake and Lora Harrison’s visit to Stronghill, Alaska, their little son Tommy disappears from the garden of Jake’s mother, where he is playing. Detective Davis and Sergeant Wood are called to investigate the mysterious case of the missing child.
At first, the investigation is moving very slowly, as no one had seen anything, but then a witness comes forward, saying that he saw a strange white van in town, the very day the boy disappeared. Inside the house, in front of which the van was parked, the police find the boy’s blood, and determine that Tommy was brought here after he was taken from the garden.
The investigation continues in Fairbanks, where Davis is able to find Ian Logan, a known criminal and the van’s owner. Logan refuses to speak, but Davis follows him around and sees him talking to another man during the night. After they both are arrested, the second man confesses that he was hired by Logan to dispose of a body. But when he arrived at the house in Stronghill, he found the boy still alive. Logan then asked him to bring the boy to a clearing in the woods and give him to another masked man.
Back in Stronghill, Sergeant Wood finds a small hole in the garden fence and a watch on the other side of the hole. Davis forms the theory that the boy was hit by a car and taken away to hide the crime. The watch, on the other hand, belongs to Mr. Brown, a neighbor of the family. After the police interrogate him, Brown confesses to hitting the boy and asking his brother, the town’s mayor, to help him. He is unaware, however, that the boy was still alive.
The mayor refuses to speak to the police and is killed, while trying to escape. Once again the detectives have no leads on the boy’s whereabouts. Thankfully, they are able to find a bank statement among the mayor’s documents, which leads them to an ex-mistress of Brown’s. She tells them that the mayor brought the boy to her house, and asked her to find a place for him to hide for a while.
Finally, they find the boy in the house of an aunt of that woman. The parents are called and the family is reunited.
