My name is Andrew Murray and I am a children`s book author and illustrator. I create books for children of all ages. From bright and colorful picture books that toddlers will enjoy, all the way through to middle-grade fiction for the more advanced readers.
I started my journey from the tender age of one. Yes, one-year old! You see, I learned to draw even before I really learned how to walk. Drawing and painting pictures was as natural to me as speaking my very first words. With my innate passion for creativity, I spent my whole childhood conjuring up vivid characters and imaginary worlds which took me all the way to adulthood.
Once I had left school, I chose the profession of film and animation. For the last fifteen plus years, I have worked on various films, TV projects, and commercials. My biggest project to date was the 2003 film, Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas, for Dreamworks Animation. As well as excelling in the visual arts, I always had a love for the written word. Stories are the very heart of an animated film, so my transition into books was a natural one.
So, here I am today, about to release my very first titles.
Up first are two picture books, which I am choosing to release simultaneously. These first books introduce the character of Pupsy. Pupsy is a mischievous but kind-hearted little dog. In-fact, he is so little that he is actually the smallest dog on the planet! But what he lacks in physical size, he makes up for with the biggest of hearts. He always wants to make his family happy and proud. These stories teach kids the importance of family, friends, and what truly matters in life.
The first books are available in both kindle and traditional paper back versions. They are colourful, expressive, and simple in their layout, allowing young children to both follow on their own, and to share with a parent or grown-up guardian. They also form part of a bigger series to come.

Mae Schick is a former English language teacher and language school owner who has written extensively her entire life. She was raised in Montana, and although the Homestead Acts came to a halt before she was born, she grew up among “ancients” who had a part in the fascinating era of the settling of the West. John Robert Mills is a Dublin born writer whose first novel ‘The Monstrous Burden of Professor Darkwood’ was released on Amazon in January 2015.
Initially experimenting with short stories in previous years, in 2011 John got busy writing his first full-length novel which he completed largely on the train to his job as an English and History teacher. The book was spawned from an idea of a Pied Piper type situation wherein the rats were replaced with thirty foot giants. However, as the characters developed and the world of Mohbriah took shape, these creatures became only part of a much more complex landscape. Although ‘The Monstrous Burden of Professor Darkwood’ is largely steampunk, the novel also has elements of urban and classic fantasy.
John is currently working on a sequel to ‘Monstrous Burden’ and this is half-finished. He is also working on a few steampunk short stories which also contain elements of horror and mystery. These should be out this year and will hopefully become part of an expanding collection that will be updated yearly. Lastly, John also has plans to release a steampunk adventure within an Irish setting, but he first wishes to add at least another title to the continuing saga of Professor Darkwood.

Born in Liverpool, Victoria trained as a medical secretary, and subsequently worked for the National Health Service. She spent twenty years living on a croft in the Highlands of Scotland, managing a company involved in the offshore oil and gas industry.

Two of the ancient world’s most enigmatic characters, Moses, who led the Israelites from bondage in Egypt to the Promised Land, yet archaeologically didn’t exist, and the heretical Pharaoh who overturned the religion of Egypt and was deliberately erased from history. Who were these two men and what was the legacy they left behind? It was Sigmund Freud who first suggested that Moses was not a Hebrew, but was, in fact, of Egyptian noble stock and that he was a supporter of Akhenaten, or even Akhenaten himself. Freud claimed that Moses led his immediate followers out of Egypt during the instability that took over after Akhenaten died. The new religion that Moses established during the wanderings in the desert was actually his own interpretation of the Atenism that he had learned as a child in the Great House. What if Moses was indeed an Egyptian, a man of noble birth, a man certainly involved in the priesthood of the time? To understand Moses and Akhenaten we need to understand the times they lived in. We need to establish how Moses came to be raised in a royal household; where he went when he left Egypt; what happened when he returned; how the circumstances of the Exodus occurred and under which Egyptian king did it take place.
We must take a fresh look at whatever inscriptional evidence there is and re-evaluate the various texts that have survived. But before we do that, we need to understand why what we read in textbooks and encyclopaedias today, is not really ‘cast in stone’. Let us look at the evidence, or maybe we should say relook, as much of what we have been told has been distorted by time, mistranslation, and by misunderstanding. Much of the archaeology, and indeed many of the translations of ancient texts and inscriptions, was done by scholars from an age far removed from our own, with very different societal beliefs, moralities and values. It is time we looked at these texts and inscriptions with 21st Century eyes, and maybe we will draw different conclusions and uncover different stories to the ones still taught in our schools today.

I eventually learned to ask Suzanne if she liked it before I tossed it or turned it over to paint on the other side.When I went back to Toledo for my mother’s memorial service, I arrived early so I could spend some time in the parks and enjoy the landscape of the region. (As my parents had moved to California, I hadn’t been back to my hometown in 14 years.)I spent time in the woods and meadows that my mother had introduced me to and that had become such a fundamental joy in my life – a place for flow for me. I found an archetypal soybean field and stood by the road and painted it. I completed the painting with my limited travel pallet at the kitchen table and by the day of the service all that love and grief found a place in the painting. Flow heals grief by the way.So, why tell you the story? Here’s why. Two things.One, Dad liked the painting. He genuinely liked it. It had captured the landscape of Ohio that he loved and the season of fall, the season he enjoyed the most in Ohio.This was the first acknowledgement and approval for my art that I had ever received from him and it came at a good time. I was 50 years old.Two, painting kept me in flow for hours. It kept me in the present. It allowed me to hold all the losses more easily and to be present for others, including my father.

It all began with Alan Moore’s “The Anatomy Lesson”.
When I was far too young to be reading such things, I picked up a small, dirty, plastic-wrapped comic digest from my local library. The first and featured story was a piece by Alan Moore which started with the line: “It’s raining in Washington tonight.”
It tells the story of a mad doctor who is awaiting the resurrection of a character whose name I won’t reveal here.
Suffice it to say, I was both horrified and intrigued. My young mind had never encountered such a dark and twisted tale, whose ending at the time shocked me. I remember being transfixed by the power of Alan Moore’s imagery and the depth of his narrative. That story still haunts me to this day.
I first picked up the pencil at age 6 to start creating a few stories of my own. Haven’t stopped since. My first trilogy was completed by age 16. Despite the urging of my Writer’s Craft professor, I never published it. At that time, I found the entire publication industry far more frightening than anything I had ever read.
I graduated from the University of Toronto with an Honours Degree in Psychology and Sociology and a minor in English which included extensive coursework on Short Story Writing, Novel Writing, Cinema Studies and Poetry.
It was my pleasure to attend the Ontario Writer’s Conference in May 2013.

I will be the first to admit that I shed a few tears writing From Partying to Praying. Reliving my childhood with such an abusive, narcissistic father, and a mother that made no attempt to remove us from such violence, made me cry. Some of the humiliating details from my painful past are unbelievable, yet it is all true.
As far as me and my husband’s marital woes, unbelievable, it was not the affair that had me shedding tears. It was remembering how I felt when he left me at the hospital for my D&C procedure. It was also finding out, weeks later, that he went to the club to party after I had just given birth to our first born. Those emotions are definitely ingrained deep inside and I didn’t think they still affected me years later, yet replaying those times, evoked so much sadness.
However, when all is said and done, I wouldn’t change any of it for what I have now. Although I had my moments, I’m so thankful I was able to completely revise and add a more in-depth reproduction of From Partying to Praying. I had a close friend of mine confess that the original manuscript felt like “cliff notes” to a great novel. I needed to fill in the blanks because there was too much information missing that she wanted to know.
This revision was fun—at least in the beginning. Writing takes all of me. I write, rewrite, and rewrite again. Right now, I don’t know if it’s complete or not….only time will tell. I feel like I accomplished my goal with at least this selection. My goal being to give you, the reader, all of me.
As far as my second book, You Picked Him, goes, I haven’t done much with it since I published it. That book didn’t grab my attention like my first and third, Why I Left the Church. I think down the road I may go back through You Picked Him to make it my current voice—if there is such a thing, but for right now, I just know that it’s not where my attention lies right now.
My third work has been, well—a work. When is it ever enough to stop to writing and put a period? I could go on and on and on, but I want to stop. No, I need to stop! I guess it’ll be done when it gets done. I think there is a ton of useful information in Why I Left the Church, and I’m sure I will hear from many because of it. Any time you start talking about religion, everyone has an opinion!
What’s next?
I keep saying this, but I have yet to see it rest: I’m done writing. I’m more of a talker and hope to pursue a career in helping others. I have a grand plan in the future to be able to schedule phone appointments, however, at this juncture; I just don’t know how I’m going to make it happen.
I have a degree in Psychology and an Associate in Management Studies, but I believe my life experiences are what make me wise. In my eyes, accumulated knowledge is the best teacher.
About My Family
I’ve been married to my husband, Brian, since 1996. We have four kiddos (3 girls and 1 boy) that keep us going mentally, physically and spiritual (have to do a whole lotta praying for the oldest because she doesn’t always make good decisions.) We use what happens in their life as a means to teach them life skills. Although our children do not always want to hear what we have to say, we know if they listen, they will get the best advice. Like any parent, we want the best for them and wish them much success in life!
