T. Jackson King (Tom) is a professional archaeologist and journalist. He writes hard science fiction, anthropological SciFi, dark fantasy/horror and contemporary fantasy/magic realism–but that didn’t happen until he was 38.
Before then, college years spent in Paris and in Tokyo led Tom into antiwar activism, hanging out with some Japanese hippies and learning how often governments lie to their citizens. The latter lesson led him and a college buddy to publish the Shinjuku Sutra English language underground tabloid in Japan in 1967. That was followed by helping shut down the University of Tennessee at Knoxville campus in 1968 and a bus trip to Washington D.C. for the Second March on Washington where thousands demanded an end to the Vietnam War.
Temporary sanity returned when Tom worked in a radiocarbon lab at UC Riverside and earned an MA degree in Archaeology from UCLA. His interests in ancient history, ancient cultures and journalism got him several government agency jobs that paid the bills, led him to roam the raw landscape of the Western United States, and helped him and his wife Leslee raise three kids.
A funny thing happened on the way to normality. By the time he was 38 and doing federal arky work in Colorado, Tom’s first novel STAR TRADERS was a stage play in his head that wouldn’t go away. So he wrote it down. It got rejected. His next novel was published as RETREAD SHOP (Warner Books, 1988). It was off to the writing races and Tom’s many voyages of imaginative discovery have led to 18 published novels, a book of poetry, and a conviction that when Humans reach the stars, we will find them crowded with space-going Aliens. We will be the New Kids On The Block! This theme appears in much of Tom’s short fiction and novel writing.
Tom lives in Los Alamos, New Mexico, USA and hangs with a group of smart and tolerant Westerners. Divorce has taught him to smile a lot and to work at being a Nice Guy. Still, he is pretty weird. Has been since fourth grade when he began reading SciFi. Since then, he and Authority have rarely been in agreement.

As a wife, mother of three, and US Navy Veteran. I have spent a great deal of my life in service to others. In late 2008 I realized that the one thing in my life that had not been given its due, was the love of my youth – writing. With the kids grown and my military service in the past, I made a pact with my Muse. I would put writing at the forefront and he would guide me to my ultimate goal, publication.
For the first two years I tried. I dabbled in historical romance. I got a third of the way through a novel before it lost its luster. The struggle frustrated me. I stepped away from the desk and glared at the screen as if it were the problem and not me. And then I met a young woman who wrote in a genre I’d never considered. I picked up one of her Urban Fantasies and within a few pages knew it was something I would like to try my hand at. I immediately sat down and wrote a scene – for the first time ever – in first person. What was created had a life I’d never seen in my writing before. After a lifetime of practicing my art, I’d found a new way to move forward.
Unfortunately, the right angle at fantasy and a good story alluded me. Then one day, while sitting in a workshop where the speaker was talking about her vampire series, my mind wandered. Through a crack, somewhere in the creative, a scene unfolded. Two characters came to life and played out a scene on a rooftop. I wrote the first couple of lines on the napkin next to me. When I got home, I wrote the scene. To my amazement, it was pretty good. I loved the characters. I loved the banter. I loved how writing it made me feel. Finally after so much struggle, my Muse had done it. He’d finally broken down the barrier that had kept the ideas at bay and given me a story which needed to be told. I’d found my niche in a genre known as Dark Contemporary Fantasy and the rest is, as they say, literary history.

This book is a mystery which has intrigue, suspense, and educates you at the same time.
It is well written, flows well, and is easy to understand. The characters are believable and easy to relate to.
I have read all of Dr. Gold’s books including this one and have never been disappointed. I have noted that one of the reviewers did not like the ending. I found the ending to be a valuable lesson of life and reality.
This is a story about a couple, Denise and Gabe, who had trouble conceiving so went with in vitro. It took them a good amount of tries before it was a success. Their child, Zack, was born and they were thrilled. They soon learned that Zack was very gifted. They did everything possible to ensure that Zack’s gifts were nurtured while still giving him as close to a normal life that they could. As time went on Zack made some wrong choices and had to learn his maturity was not as advanced as his mind. What they didn’t know was that Zack’s gifts were the result of more than good luck.
Be sure to allow yourself enough time to read it through. Once you start, you will not want to put it down.
