  9. The Legend of the Firewalker -

Steve Bevil, the author of The Legend of the Firewalker series, recalls vividly as a child running to the library to check-out and read the latest The Hardy Boys and Nancy Drew books. He started writing short stories at a young age, but never took writing seriously, and as an adult, would only write to jot down the many storylines and mystical characters he would often fantasize in his head. It wasn't until he was inspired by the story of author Stephanie Meyer, a stay-at-home mother of three and Christopher Paolini, the author of the Inheritance Cycle, that he entertained the idea of writing a book. Steve recalls sitting at his computer one day, after reading promotional emails announcing the latest books, daydreaming a dialogue between two people. "It was just so Harry Potter-esque as far as the classic story of good versus evil. I just kept getting more and more detail; it was like the story wanted to be written, there were so many layers to it. I had first and last names, character back history, and everything. Immediately, I started writing." After months and months of developing the plot and writing, the end result was his first book in the series, The Legend of the Firewalker. The daydream, a dialogue between two of the main characters; Nathan Urye and Stephen Malick, ended up appearing in Chapters 11 and 16. Steve Bevil graduated from Eastern Illinois University with a Master's degree in Communication. He is a native of Chicago, Illinois and when he isn't writing, enjoys music, watching movies, fitness, and walks with his little Westie, Wyatt. To learn more you can follow him on Twitter - http://twitter.com/steve_bevil or visit his blog - http://stevebevil.blogspot.com/ or find out news at his Facebook fan page: http://www.facebook.com/stevebevilwriting

  11. THE ROAD MAP TO THE UNIVERSE -

Over the past seven years (since I retired at the age of 60), I've written six novels, all of which you can find in the Kindle Store. What I am attempting to do in my books, besides writing entertaining and original plots, is to present themes and dilemmas that are thought provoking and don't have any easy, simplistic answers. I do my very best to fairly present both sides of an issue--such as having a negative character express my own personal views, while a more positive character will express intelligent opposition to those views. All of this occurs, of course, in relation to the plots that are contained in the books, which are intended to mirror or illustrate the underlying philosophy. For instance, in The Road Map to the Universe, the protagonist feels that because the universe is so enormous, our lives here on earth are meaningless and that we all suffer from taking ourselves far too seriously. Do humans really have any significance, or is that just a self-serving illusion of the ego? And then, when the plot is resolved, one realizes that many of the incidents that occurred during the book were essentially mirages created by ego-driven motivations. There! I've just given you an important clue to solving the murder mystery that is at the center of this book. I spend a great deal of time revising my novels. After finishing the first draft, I go through the book about ten times--first page to last page. Each journey through the book is slow and painstaking--no more than ten or fifteen pages a day. Sometimes, one or two pages will take a whole day. From my experience, the kind of errors that pop up on some of the later readings can be rather surprising, if not downright alarming! I particularly look for inaccurate punctuation, repetitive sentence structure, and inaccurate or repetitive vocabulary; however, you will not need a dictionary to read my books. I also do not permit unclear sentences to stand--I can't imagine that any reader will want to read a sentence twice because I couldn't find a way to explain myself. I also spent numerous hours formatting these novels so that they would convert to Kindle. As you probably all know, it isn't just a matter of hitting the upload button, and all I can say is that these books (after doing this, that, and the other thing) looked great on the Kindle Previewer, so I'm hopeful that they converted properly. My thanks to Charles Spender and his $0.99 book, Formatting of Kindle Books, which was quite helpful.

  16. MOM! 85 Ways To Let Life Energize You -

Curiosity may have killed that feline fur ball, but she or him learned a lot before exiting number nine. I too have been curious, wondering why we, I or they acted this way, looked or did it that way or were otherwise human. But curiosity is such a casual word, and the truth is my desire to know was almost desperate. There were times in life that I felt angry when there was no one around, unhappy when life was just fine, times I had trouble with relationships for seemingly no reason, times I felt sad when…well, you get the idea. That desperate curiosity, along with forty years of inner work, has lead to some interesting answers and some surprising books. Also, I love talking with those courageous people who are going for a positive change, and I live to see that eye-widening moment of understanding. Besides curious, I am also a writer who began with a column in the San Jose Mercury News, nationally syndicated. My current project is this book series, “Things That Make Life Better.” So from the central coast of the North American west, I submit these curious jottings of curiosity to be browsed by those who will hopefully find them just as helpful as they might have hoped.

  26. Haunting of Leigh Maxwell by Esther Luttrell -

My husband left me and I was driving around, trying to think how to kill him. That's how I came to write my first novel "Murder in the Movies". I murdered his rear end good! I was born in Daytona Beach, Florida and attended 26 schools in 26 states. My dad was a con man, just not a very good one. He tried though. I completed the ninth grade, then he left us and I went to work. Later, I was campus filmmaker on a PhD grant at a major university, and I wrote psychological films for Ivy League colleges. I made my way to MGM where I spent some of the best years of my life. I use a movie backdrop for most of my books. My book about life after death, "Dear Dean...Love, Mom", will soon be re-released under a new title, "Between Heaven & Earth". With the passing of my son, Dean, I learned - without any doubt - that life and love are forever. That's what I want readers to know as well. I travel a lot as a public speaker, and also to research stories for my new State of the Murder series. I live in the Midwest with way too many cats.

  51. Legends of Leone: The Crystal Ordeal by M.G. Dekle -

M.G. Dekle (born August 2, 1983) began writing at a young age and continues to love storytelling. He studied literature at the University of South Florida, earning a Master of Arts degree, and continues to teach Composition classes at local schools. He began writing in elementary school and found creative teachers who helped guide him as he developed his love of books. Throughout childhood, he would wake up extra early just to read more tales of King Arthur, Robin Hood, and any other fantastical stories before the sun came up. In high school, a production by the drama club of one of his plays, performed for local elementary schools, cemented his path to becoming a writer. His works are usually centered around fantasy and humor, focusing on the characters as they encounter unusual predicaments. He likes for every story he writes to have at least some humorous aspect. He is also a husband and father. When not writing, he and his family love to visit theme parks and travel.

  54. Sky Hunter -

I am a first generation Canadian currently and out of necessity residing on planet Earth (which, in the general and interplanetary scheme of things could REALLY use a catchier name, if you ask me. I mean, imagine heading past Proxima Centauri and someone asks you whence you came and you tell them "dirt". All theological implications aside, that just won't do.) My first full-length work of fiction, Flight To Exile, is a fantasy which, I just realized, takes place on a planet that doesn't have a name at all and blurs the line between sci-fi and fantasy in ways that are probably illegal. I then headed out far beyond Proxima Centauri and found a nifty story that soon turned into a Space Opera complete with wormholes and improbable laser guns. What fun. Laws of physics need not apply if you find a way to explain them away. The series stars Nova Whiteside as a space marine whose pesky humanity keeps getting in the way of her doing her job according to protocol. Currently, there are four books in the series, with two more planned. When not finding ways to torture my subjects or entice them with inter-species hanky-panky, I design web sites or write about designing web sites. I enjoy long walks on the beach or, given the local beach shortage, write about beaches far beyond Proxima Centauri.

  56. The Jonas Trust Deception by AFN Clarke -

I’m fortunate to be the author of the bestselling nonfiction book CONTACT, which was serialized in a British newspaper and made into an award winning film by BBCTV. That launched my “official” career as a writer and I have never looked back. I write mainly fiction these days, as I am passionate about creating different worlds in which my readers can lose themselves for a few hours - or days! I love to write different genres - politically charged thrillers, suspense and intrigue, humorous satire and books about the challenges of human relationships. I’ve lived all over the world, served in the British army, had a near death experience, lost half my insides and recovered from the physical and emotional traumas of war. A proud father of four daughters, screenwriter, pilot, race car driver, I love to sail, listen to opera, cook gourmet meals, drink wine, read good books, have heated discussions and travel off the beaten path. Books include: The Orange Moon Affair and The Jonas Trust Deception (Thomas Gunn thrillers) Contact, Collisions, An Unquiet American, Dry Tortugas, The Book of Baker Series (Dreams from the Death Age; Armageddon; Genesis Revisited) with more coming soon.

  59. Watchers of the Night by Matthew Keith -

Having been born in Pontiac, Michigan in 1972, I am as much a product of the 80's as anyone from that era can be. Back in high school, I was a 6'3" bean pole with long scraggly hair, a jean jacket that I wore nearly every day of my life, and drove around in a loud, busted-up '76 Cutlass that I bought from my big brother and thought was the greatest thing on four wheels. Guns 'n' Roses, ripped up jeans, radio way too loud - I was that guy. Back then I didn't have many ambitions except to get out of high school as quickly as I could. I'd always envisioned myself one day becoming a teacher, but the road that led to that career included a minimum of four years additional school and I wanted nothing to do with that. I'm older now, not much wiser, with a lot less hair and more around the middle. I've been a partner in a pizza business for over fifteen years with an amazing man who has not only given me the opportunity to achieve financial success, but has also been a mentor in nearly every aspect of my life. If he ever reads this - which I doubt - you know who you are. Thank you. I live in Kentucky now and have two wonderful children, one who began in 2013 at the University of Kentucky on a music scholarship, and one in high school. I have been married to the same beautiful redhead for the last sixteen years. From the way it's going I'll be happily stuck with her until the day I die. Truly, without her I would never have finished my first novel let alone been able to be halfway through a second and third. She has supported me in every aspect of my life - it is that support that gave me the belief that I could write something worth reading. As far as my writing, it is something I'd always wanted to do but never allowed myself to find the time for. As any writer will tell you, it's a discipline and what starts out as 'fun' or 'romantic' turns into actual work at some point. Compound that with the fact that most writers, like myself, work 'real' jobs to pay the bills and it becomes ever harder to do. For those of you who've taken the time to read this novel, thank you. I appreciate your support and hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it. Drop me a line sometime - I would love to hear from you! -Matthew matthewkeith@matthewkeith.net
