    I was raised in England by soldiering parents, travelling with them as far as Gutersloh in West Germany and back again, finishing up in Lincolnshire. I attended four schools before secondary age. I picked my secondary school because it 'felt right' and a lot of my cohort from our country-style middle school were going there. It was more than just a culture shock, it was a horror movie in the making. The inner city school took over forty five minutes to walk to and was not safe to enter alone. I spent the years until sixth form, finding groups to walk with or just hang with, anything to avoid the awful trek to the gates behind the gas works which could lead to misery. No part of the huge site was safe. I still to this day, don't know why the school degenerated so quickly, from a successful all-girls' school to a failing, terror ridden institution. A few years earlier, the school had accepted boys and changed its status to comprehensive, but surely it would be unfair to blame the presence of the male sex for the swift degeneration. My husband and I, along with our four children arrived in New Zealand in 2006, with just a suitcase and a rucksack each. We brought nothing and shipped nothing. Starting again was awesome and terrible. The only surety in our lives, was that no matter how our circumstances may have looked, especially during the hard times, God was in control. I revisited a lot of the old sadness in writing this novel and surprised myself with how fresh it still felt, but wanted to offer a sense of hope to teenagers suffering in similar circumstances. As a mother of four children, I have often felt powerless in the same way that I am sure my mother did. Sometimes it really is just about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I survived and they can too. No city in the world is exempt. There are schools like this in New Zealand - I know that for sure. The second book in this series is called, 'This Too Shall Pass' and is available on Amazon.

    I was born and still live in the ancient city of Vilnius though I no longer walk in the abandoned cemeteries after dark. I am happily married for 12 years with two kids and it easy to see where my inspiration comes when you translate names of my wife and kids from Lithuanian - Morning Dew, Summer and Westerly Wind. We also own the dog named Eagle who leads his life in belief that one day he will be able to soar and reach those pesky squirrels in the trees.     When I was a child my mother kept a black suitcase in our basement. She forbade me to look inside. Of course as we all know the way to spark a child's curiosity is to tell them they are forbidden to do or see a particular thing. One afternoon when my mother was out, I raced down stairs. Nobody was around so I opened the suitcase. Inside I found pictures and letters in a foreign language. Later that night I asked my mother what all of it meant. She told me that she was trying to protect me by keeping the suitcase out of my reach, but since I'd found it I might as well know that she and my father both lost their entire extended families in the Holocaust. So began my obsession with the Nazi occupation of Eastern Europe. Being that my father was Romany and my mother was Jewish, I had many aspects to research and much to learn. Finally, many years later...I wrote my first novel. It is set in this period. It comes to you, along with all of my work, from my heart, with love and hopes that someday there will be understanding and tolerance among all peoples.
