I live in Melbourne, Australia with my wife and three children. I grew up reading Stephen King, Richard Matheson, and Jean Auel, amongst others. 8. The New Du Rose Matriarch by K T Bowes -

I was born in England in 1969 to a soldiering family, moving around continually until we settled in Lincolnshire, by which time, I had attended four different schools before my twelfth birthday. I went to Aberystwyth University in Wales to read English and then to everyone's amazement, went into law enforcement working for the local government's Trading Standards Department. Married and with four children, I worked in schools and finally returned to my English degree to help with children struggling with literacy. In 2006, we arrived at Auckland airport on a one way ticket, with six suitcases and six rucksacks, NZ Permanent Residence and a pocket full of NZ dollars, not to mention four very tired but excited children - all under twelve. There was nobody to greet us as we stumbled off the plane, because we didn't know a single soul in the country. We had no jobs and had never even been here on holiday. So we travelled, trying to look forwards and not back. Everyone we met said, 'Don't go to Hamilton - there's nothing there,' so we didn't, happily travelling the North Island until the money ran out and the camper van had to go back. We arrived in Hamilton, or 'Tron' as it is loving known, quite by accident late one Friday evening, having taken something of a wrong turn. We never left. Three of our children have gone and returned, gone and returned, arriving back in the city with a sigh of relief before venturing off again to other corners of the world. The last child is still at home, too young to escape yet but I keep seeing her wings flexing and catching the breeze and know that it will be soon. I look back and know that we were utterly crazy, putting our faith in each other and then when that failed miserably, in God himself. Would I do it all again? Probably. I have always written, out of necessity and for pleasure. My first novel in the series was written and stuffed onto a hard disk, to be handed over to my children to decide what to do with, after I had shuffled off this mortal coil. It was a massive piece of work and as I fiddled with it, knew that I had to split it into three parts, which I did. 'About Hana', 'Hana Du Rose' and 'Du Rose Legacy' are all part of the same mystery and need to be read together. On a whim one day, I thought 'what the heck' and published the first one, amazed when it sold and readers came back for more. Hence the series of 'Waikato Presbyterian School for Boys' Mysteries' - which now totals five books and a sixth on the way. This year, I have added teen books to my repertoire in the shape of a series entitled 'Teen Mayhem' including 'Free From the Tracks' and 'This Too Shall Pass'. Other authors tell me not to read my reviews, but I can't help it, I just have to. I always appreciate good feedback from readers, although many tell me that they 'didn't realise they could do that'. The Amazon sites accept reviews and there are links at the back of my books to help the reader go straight to the right place (courtesy of my capable computer whizz husband.) I am a Christian and not ashamed of my faith. Whilst my novels are set in the 'real' world, my heroines always try and steer a straight course for home, battered and bruised by the actions and decisions of others - kind of like the rest of us who struggle to be 'in the world, but not of it'.

  10. Tri System’s Edge: Humble Beginnings by Ron Schrader -

Early on in life, Ron Schrader learned he had a knack for writing, but in spite of any skill or talent that existed, Ron chose to travel a different path. For several years, Ron worked in the IT field where he grew to love technology. In 2012, he made a job change that pulled him into the world of online marketing where he eventually stumbled upon the Amazon Kindle store. Several years earlier, Ron had begun writing the beginning of the Tri System's Edge series, but it was short lived and ended up being filed away. But toward the end of 2012, an epiphany was reached. It was time to start writing again. Gradually digging into the story, Ron went to work, determined to finish his first novel. Almost a year later, on September 24, 2013, the first book in the Tri System's Edge series was published after countless hours of writing and editing. Exited to move forward in the world of writing, Ron is determined to make a career out of writing, and he's excited to share his work with the world!

  11. The Sympathy of All Things by Fay Guilian -

My life, like all lives, is a series of journeys. Maybe mine has been a bit more so, as I have traveled for over 20 years and lived in several different countries and continents. With the influences of daily life in Asia, Africa, the Middle East and Europe contributing to my perspective, my writing has become a reflection of those times and places and faces. In The Sympathy of All Things, the main character Leah Holden, is a good example of a woman who has had to learn about two words that play an important part in my life. On the inside of each of my wrists I have a tattoo. Small, written in white ink so no one but me can see them, I had PERSEVERE needled on my left, and FORGIVE placed on the right. They were supposed to be daily reminders of the two things I needed to do most in this world and the two things I found hardest to achieve. In the beginning I thought about those tattoos daily, especially during the itchy healing period! But like all new fascinations, they became old and ordinary after a few months, and I simply stopped noticing them. When I started writing my book The Sympathy of All Things a few years ago, like a lot of new authors I stopped and started, and stopped and started again. Plenty of times I felt like I would never finish, because I didn't know if I had what it takes to see it to the goal line. But the truth is, the only reason my book exists today is because I did persevere. Not brilliantly, or with any type of superpower, but like most humans do. Taking itty, little baby steps, one at a time. Because I am an artist, a teacher, a spiritual seeker, and an absolute believer in world travel, you will find my upcoming stories almost always have a kernel of me at the core. A little bit of spirituality, art, or travel will probably be buried deep in the pages. Like most people I take the good with the bad, but I am determined to learn how to exemplify the meaning of my tattoos. Like Leah says, "life offers us no guarantees." I am a firm believer in this. We may not be able to change some things about our fate or destiny, but we certainly can work with what we are given.

  12. Blue Mercy by Orna Ross -

ORNA ROSS has worked in every branch of books publishing: as author, editor, teacher, mentor, novelist, poet and even as an (accidental) literary agent. Since 2012, she has been successfully self-publishing her own books and she is founder and director of The Alliance of Independent Authors. Get an email when Orna launches a new book: http://www.ornaross.com/connect/new-book-out/ ORNA SAYS: "My NOVELS usually take the form of family-based dramas. Often they are historical fiction and usually there's a murder mystery or other buried secret from the past causing chaos in the present. I enjoy writing emotional twists and surprises around big themes -- identity, family loyalty, the struggle between freedom and belonging. My POEMS are simple and accessible and tend towards the inspirational. My NONFICTION is about applying the creative process to everything in life. We've all been educated to neglect our creative capacities -- a big mistake, as the Creative Age overtakes the Information Age. Thankfully, as with strength in any other muscle, we stop losing it by using it. The 'Go Creative!' books show how to become more creative in every aspect of life." INSPIRATIONS: #1: HISTORY: I agree with Mr Hartley that the past is, indeed, another country and it's my favourite place to travel -- reading and writing historical fiction is my favourite thing to do. I'm especially drawn to bohemian times and places where shackles are thrown off and creativity flourishes -- fin de siecle Paris (1890s); literary revival and revolutionary Ireland (1910/20s); hippy (1960s) and gay lib (1980s) San Francisco... #2: GENDER: I write the kind of women's fiction that explores what it is to be a woman, in various times and places. But I think both men and women have feminine and masculine dimensions. We are all seeded by man and born of woman and we all carry 'male' and 'female' characteristics. How these play out, in an individual life and in different societies, is endlessly fascinating to me. #3: IRELAND: I don't only write about Ireland but it is a strong influence. Because so many millions have emigrated from there, its stories reach beyond its own shores. There is always a particular flavour to Irish writing and readers tell me they experience in my books too. #4: THE SEA: Everything I really needed to know, I could have learned by watching the waves. #5: THE SPACE BETWEEN THE WORDS. About which the less said, the better.

  25. Who’s Your Father?: Returning to the Love of the Biblical God -

I am a 49 year old layperson and a long time student of God's word. I recently retired after nearly 30 years as a successful businessman at the helm of a multi-million dollar company. During those years, I often witnessed the undeniable hand of God in my life and in my business. In recent years, however, as I read the entire Bible many times in many translations, God's Word began to reveal to me how I had formed many false notions about his nature and his loving involvement in every area of my life. It is a large portion of this transforming revelation that is presented in Who's Your Father? Over the years, I have served in virtually every possible lay position in the church. I have led ministries, taught innumerable classes and Bible studies, and chaired many boards. As a ministry to the church, I have operated a second business of designing and/or installing audio video systems for churches for the past 15 years. This ministry includes the personal training of volunteer operators for these systems. This consulting business has provided me with an invaluable opportunity to meet, experience, and worship with God's people from many different denominations and backgrounds. As a result of being so thoroughly immersed in the church from a very young age, I possess a firm grasp on the teachings of the church of our day. Moreover, this considerable experience within the church has provided me with the rare and valuable perspective of a layman who is well-acquainted with the various views of the issues confronted in this work as well as an insightful, experiential understanding of the emotional responses to these issues by the laypeople who sit in the congregation each week. Indeed, I have intimately experienced both the problem and the solution. Who's Your Father? is written to share this knowledge with God's people, and it will enlighten them as to how far the church has deviated from the teachings of the leaders of the Reformation who established the Protestant church.

  28. Lazar’s Mission by Kevin Sterling -

A first generation American born to a European family, Kevin Sterling writes from a rich perspective on relationships, culture and sensuality to create characters with uncommon depth and appealing vulnerability. Combine that with a history of world travel and a successful former business career in structured finance, and it’s easy to see how his books resonate with authentic situations, engaging conflict, and stimulating eroticism. Then there’s the lighter side of the man, who can do a killer impression of Sean Connery (amongst other famous personalities) and thinks everyone wants to hear his never-ending repertoire of corny jokes. That has yet to be proven, of course, so readers should be thankful he has one of the best editors in the industry (Mary Moran) to keep that under control. Sterling and his wife travel extensively and live at their mountain ranch in Colorado with their Golden Retriever, Shelby.

  30. Sex, Lies & Hot Tubs by Elissa Ambrose -

Ever since the age of four when she pilfered her brother’s comics, Elissa knew she wanted to be a writer. The road to publication, however, had a few detours. After graduating with a degree in English literature, she became a programmer (go figure). Years later, after an amicable parting with technology, she was an editor at a company that produced educational material, and after that, the fiction editor at a literary journal. Working with so many talented writers was what finally spurred her forward. She wrote her first novel, Journey of the Heart, and has been writing ever since. Originally from Montreal, Canada, she now lives in Arizona, and no, she doesn't miss the snow. (It’s a dry heat, remember? And you can’t shovel heat.) Born and raised in Montreal, Canada, Elissa has been a donut maker, a librarian, a computer programmer, and an editor − but always a writer. She and her husband now live in Arizona. (Yes, it's hot, but it's a dry heat. And you can't shovel heat.)

  35. Organic Gardening’s Bokashi Composting -

"Proven Organic Gardening Techniques for a Happy and Healthy Lifestyle" Organic Gardening has followed the full circle of old knowledge, to outdated practices, to new found and updated technology. An example of this is the development of the Bokashi technique from a Korean method practiced for hundreds of years. Mike grew up on a small farm in Iowa and acquired the art of organic gardening as practiced by his father. When large-scale chemical fertilizer farming became vogue, his father refused to use them. His reasoning: "They smell like oil and oil isn't good to eat". With his knowledge grounded in experience, he continuously researches and experiments to learn new workable and practical techniques. Mike loves to say that an advantage of "Farm Life" was being able to raid the huge family garden for snacks freshly plucked from the rich soil all summer long. This love of garden snacking has followed him all of his life and he feels that everyone should be able to do it. It doesn't matter if you have a large garden, patio garden or containers. Now that he is retired, he enjoys writing books with his step-by-step methods to help others enjoy a happy and healthy organic lifestyle. "Garden Snacking" aside, Mike has a zest for life that includes sailing, motorcycles, sports car racing and just plain inventing personally useful things.

  36. LUSH (a YA Dystopian novel) -

I have had a love of sci-fi since I was a kid... watching Star Trek with my father. I am such a junky for action packed sci-fi movies to this day... thanks Dad! That love started to include the supernatural/paranormal as I reached my teens. I will always thank Anne Rice and Lestat for introducing me to a whole new genre... and my love vampire fiction was born. When I began writing, I didn't consider the YA paranormal genre. I started two previous projects that I couldn't finish, and I never knew why. But, when I started to write - A Chance for Charity (The Immortal Ones) - the story poured out of me and I loved every minute of the writing process! I still have those other stories, and someday I plan to go back and finish them.

  38. The Tainted Trust -

Born, raised and educated in Canada, Stephen spent the first half of his career working for the two largest oil companies in the world: Exxon and royal Dutch Shell. He spent the second half working for one of the smallest oil companies in the world; his own. He has three sons and one daughter, all of whom are grown and “off the payroll”. Now retired, he spends his summers with his wife, Ann, and their two cats, Abby and Samantha, at their Canadian home near Niagara Falls. They winter at their Florida home in Port St. Lucie. When he is not writing, he is reading, traveling, or playing horrifying golf. He plans to write until the day he dies, probably longer. For Stephen, writing was an accident. When his friends in Muskoka, Canada, and Florida became aware of the story of his incredible life in the Canadian oil business, they encouraged him to commit it to writing. They insisted it was a story that must be told, that it is a piece of national history. Reluctantly, he did, and after more than twenty years the story of AN ENDLESS AND CONFLICTED LOVE, A MAN WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE AND NEARLY LOST HIS LIFE DOING IT, and ONE OF THE LARGEST AND MOST AUDACIOUS THEFTS IN CANADIAN HISTORY, was finally made public. Stephen has entitled the book: The Bridge to Caracas, for reasons that will ultimately be obvious to readers. Prior to choosing that title, he considered entitling the book: The Nicest Crook I Ever Knew, but in the end, Jim Servito, the antagonist, was really not very nice. The sequels,The Tainted Trust, (the story of what happened to the $325,000,000 stolen from the Canadian and U.S. governments), the second in The King Trilogy, and Kerri’s War, the third volume in The King Trilogy, (the continuing saga of the inconvenient fortune, are now live on Amazon KDP. Stephen has said, “If readers have half as much fun reading The King Trilogy as I did writing it, they will be enriched.”

  39. The Thin Green Line: Five Years Behind the Counter at The Big Bookstore -

Jesse L. Byers was born in Norfolk, Virginia. He grew up poor and struggled for acceptance and survival in low income housing and inner city schools. Escaping the downward spiral of his surroundings he relocated to Los Angeles in his teens and held a variety of retail jobs before becoming an ordained minister like so many other mail order screwballs and finally publishing his novels. He dabbled in politics, volunteering on local and presidential campaigns and running for office himself. These days he resides in the suburbs of Los Angeles and having left religion, writing and politics in the past he prefers to keep a low profile, maintain his library and do what so many others should do--live each day to the fullest. 50. The Forever Stone by Gloria Repp -

Adventure, mystery, and wild creatures all play a part in Gloria Repp's many books. She grew up in the Hawaiian Islands and the Pacific Northwest, and it was there she learned a love for wilderness that pervades her stories. Over the years, experiences gained from raising three children, teaching school, and editing have made useful contributions to her work. The trips she has taken during recent years have added a new dimension to her writing. Her favorite place to explore is the thousand-acre wilderness of New Jersey’s Pine Barrens. One spring, she listened to the songs of the rare Pine Barrens Treefrog and envisioned stories for children about a tiny frog named Pibbin. As she hiked the quiet pine woods, she felt her splintered edges heal . . . and the beginnings of a novel began to stir. Pibbin’s adventures have taken shape as the TALES OF FRIENDSHIP BOG, and the tumbled ruins and gleaming dark streams of the Barrens have provided the setting of her novel, THE FOREVER STONE – and of those to follow.

  58. Just The Way I Am -

I always wanted to write children's books, but I didn't have the courage, time or right frame of mind. After I completed my first degree in Computer Engineering, I found myself creating children's software; teaching private lessons in all areas; and teaching children to swim, in both the first and second levels. As a result of working with kids, the connection to writing a book for children was a natural progression and I found myself writing many different stories about almost everything, and always left them in the desk drawer. When an idea pops into my head I ask these questions: Will a child want to read this book? Will a parent want to read this book to or with their child? Would this book make a parent or a child feel something? Is there something visual here that will hold the child's interest? Will a child see things in a different way after reading the book? If the answer to these questions is yes, then I know I'm on the right track. This is my first book to be published in a Kindle version; I hope that I will publish many more children's books, in the same genre soon.

  59. The Scoundrel’s Secret Siren -

Daphne has always had a passion for literature and history and one day it occurred to her: what better way to use her English Literature degree than to write about Regency romps and romance? She hasn’t looked back since. Admittedly, her addiction to all things Jane Austen from a very young age had probably somewhat informed her choice of subject matter… Daphne has stacks of notebooks full of stories that still need to be written, which she insists on bringing with her when she moves around the world (she’s done this a lot!). She likes her books full of romance, adventure, witty repartee and a dash of silly humour. When Daphne isn’t writing, she can be found painting, picnicking, reading and listening to all sorts of exciting music.

  60. The Masculine Way What Your Dream Girl Really Wants – Dissecting Alpha Males, Pickup Artists and Nice Guys -

Dylan Thrasher is an acclaimed Dating, Life, Love and Relationship coach/expert whose extensive work in human behavior has helped thousands of men and women better their lives, attract the right partners, repair and improve the relationships they keep and learn when it is time to walk away from the ones they should not be in. Taking pride in being known as the toughest, yet most effective practitioner out there, Dylan has been featured in a variety of publications such as the Boston Globe, Huffington Post, Match.com, Miami Herald and San Francisco Chronicle among others. Raising himself from a young age, he quickly learned to "read" people from all walks of life, seeing through to their core. His focus has always been on why people do the things they do, what the real hidden meaning is behind the words that are sometimes carelessly thrown around and discovering the truth within real-life situations. Not a PhD hiding behind theories in out-of-touch books, nor a New-Age practitioner of useless voodoo such as magnets or energy crystals, Dylan focuses all his solutions on internal strength, willpower and actions to achieve the life you deserve in today's world. If you're ready to push out all the noise and nonsense, and aren't looking to pay to be coddled and confused, you're in the right place as he delivers hard-hitting brutal truth not intended to make you feel better in the short term, but rather to help you in the long term. Dylan is not as (artificially) nice as the other coaches/experts you may have been exposed to in the past. If they were effective, you would not be here. Dylan is available for Private Coaching via his website at www.DylanThrasher.com.

  61. Lazar’s Challenge by Kevin Sterling -
