1. The Knightmare by Deborah Valentine -

   Deborah Valentine is a British author, editor and screenwriter who once lived in California but far preferred the British weather and fled to London, where she has resided for many years. Her crime novels feature former California Sheriff Kevin Bryce and his artist girlfriend Katharine Craig, charting their turbulent romance among murder and mayhem. With their engaging yet complex characterisations, they push the boundaries of the conventional mystery. Unorthodox Methods was the first in the series, followed by A Collector of Photographs and the Ireland-based Fine Distinctions. A Collector of Photographs was short-listed for an Edgar Allan Poe, a Shamus, a Macavity and an Anthony Boucher award. Fine Distinctions was also short-listed for an Edgar. In addition to the Kevin Bryce series she has been the editor of a number of niche-market journals and is a prolific writer of articles, screenplays and a new series of novels with a supernatural theme, of which The Knightmare is the first.

2. The Gross Gang by Christine Larsen -

   I am Christine – a wife, mother, grandmother, and throughout each of these also a farmer for 40+ years. I'm a 'used to be' – Secretary, Lifeline Telephone Counsellor, Community Careworker, Student Mentor, and Tutor. Today I'm a born-again writer, after successfully completing a respected writing course back in the 1970's. One of my markers of that time suggested – ‘I fear for your work at the hands of hard-nosed editors who regard all love as sentimental nonsense’. He was right. I couldn’t handle the rejections of my story submissions, and put my creations aside, believing I had an over-inflated opinion of my work, and actually had no talent. Despite this, once in a while over the years, I would fan the embers and try again… with the same result. Success and recognition came at last a couple of years ago thanks to my creations on Squidoo and Ezine Articles, when a different writing career than I had envisaged began. An online journal led to my own website, and the recent creation of my booksite, ceedee4kids dedicated to my children's stories. At last all paths have led me to self-publishing success with my children's e-books, and the first book in a series of farming memoirs now in its final editing stages – to be published as soon as I can wrap my head around the requirements of submission to Smashwords, my latest giant learning curve. Several more children's books are also in various stages in my 'think tank' or in the roughest draft forms. Please keep watching out for my name.

3. Nooo, not the scissors -

   Zehavit Tzarfati lives in Tel Aviv, Israel. She holds a BA in Psychology and Education, and a Masters in Public Policy. Zehavit loves animals and children, and it’s this love that urged her to dedicate her time to writing stories for young children. Her tales are original and all of them feature eye-catching illustrations which aid young readers in understanding the text within each story. Her books are written simplistically, yet not too simplistically as to be deemed childish by slightly older children.    I’m in my thirties and living in New Zealand. A little over a year ago I lost somebody very close to me. I was lucky in a way, I was given enough time to make a promise. My promise was that I would never forget our young and innocent love, and it’s a promise I intend to keep. My writing is a way to help me keep that promise. I’ve always enjoyed writing but was forced into being ‘prudent’ and giving myself over to soul-crushing office work for the sake of a steady salary. Recent events forced me to re-evaluate my priorities and I decided to take a chance. I like to put little pieces of ‘us’ into my writing, from funny conversations we had, to apocalyptic arguments, to that special feeling you get when you hop into bed fully aware that your feet are freezing but your partner doesn’t kick you away. Even though these things are set in fictional worlds and attached to fictional characters, in a way it feels like I’m doing something that will make our love live forever. 8. The Dream Catcher by Julia Rose Grey -

   Julia Rose Grey pestered her mother to learn to read and, shortly after, began jotting down her thoughts to clarify the world’s contradictions. She soon developed a taste for fiction, biographies, and history and starting writing her own stories in elementary school. In college, she discovered she had a talent for writing term papers and, although she insisted others write their own papers, she often helped people develop their themes. She knew few shared her unique skill: given a topic and a few hours of research, she could whip up a twenty-page paper in an afternoon. With a degree under her belt, Ms. Grey bundled this writing ability into a briefcase and leveraged it into a career replete with documentary, expository, and persuasive writing.
