I’m Dan Eitreim and I worked as a professional photographer running my own photo studio for over 20 years. I’ve never apprenticed or worked for any other photographers. Because of this, I’ve had to learn and develop my photography skills on my own.

My first attempts were dismal, to say the least…so I studied, practiced and developed my photo skills and along the way I not only learned how to put the “wow” into my photos, but I’ve also learned how to teach others to do the same!

On a freezing, snowy night, I was delivered into this world by my father, Olan David Sandel, in a one
room shack in Leon County, Texas. The local physician, Dr. Powell, couldn’t make it to the house to do
the delivery, but I was safe in the arms of my dad, an Army veteran and sharecropper. He raised cattle,
hogs, horses and other animals and had helped with the deliveries of their babies any time they were
having trouble. The goal was always the same–get the new born out alive and well. He did that for me
that frigid, fateful night.
My family moved to Houston when I was seven, and I spent all my school years on the north side of
the Bayou City, graduating from Sam Houston High School in 1957. I chose Drafting School over
college and completed it early, then immediately started a job with Commonwealth Services, building a
pipeline in Canada. After a short stint there, I joined the US Navy, going to radio school, then boarded
the aircraft Carrier USS Hancock for a tour of the Far East. After arriving at Pearl Harbor in Honolulu
for shore duty, I had hours to read and fell in love with books. After my discharge, I returned to
Houston and started working at Southwestern Bell, which became AT&T, from which I retired after 20
years as District Manager Business Controls.
Later, I earned my license in real estate and started my own company, Charles Sandel Realty, which
I own and operate to this day.
I gained inspiration from four women in my life. The first was my mother, Willie Esther Sandel, who
sent me to first grade in Leona with the ability to read, write, add, subtract, multiply, and divide. She
also demanded that I treat my teachers and peers with respect. Her favorite expression was “the pen is
mightier than the sword.”
The second was my baby sister, Patricia Ann, who was five years younger than me, but twice as
smart. The third was Louisa May Alcott, author of Little Women and Little Men. The fourth was
Margaret Mitchell, author of Gone With the Wind. All these women perceived love as the most
important and powerful positive force in the world. They helped me believe the advancement of
human culture works best when people love each other.
After Patricia died of colon cancer at the age of 58, I wanted to do something to memorialize her
strong desire to strive to always do the right thing. The memory of my sister’s personality inspired the
title character in my novel. I hope the story does justice to Patricia’s keen spirit and motivates my
grandchildren to work to achieve the highest goals. As part of the effort to honor her, I pledge to
donate 5% of the net income from the sale of this book to the American Cancer Society.
My nephew, Kevin Cochran, Patricia’s only child, helped me finish the final chapter of the story
upstairs in my home in Katy, Texas, while Hurricane Harvey flooded the rooms downstairs. On that
night, the water wasn’t the only thing rising. Samantha was rising. May she continue her ascent as
long as her story of strength and perseverance inspires the people who read it.

Dr. Donner’s monthly newsletter covers many areas of psychology, ranging from typical, psychological issues (e.g. depression, developmental psychology, parenting, and anxiety) to more complex psychological phenomena (e.g. trauma, addiction, multiple personality, etc.). The newsletter explains psychology topics in everyday readable terms. Dr. Donner lives in Upstate New York and works extensively with all types of personality disorders and mental health problems. In his private practice, Dr. Donner consults with New York State courts and agencies to evaluate and diagnose individuals. He specializes in personality, neurological and learning disorders.

Dr. Donner received his Ph.D. from the University of Ottawa in the early 1980’s. He directed a collaborative Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES) program treating emotionally disturbed children and adolescents in Upstate New York. Under Dr. Donner’s supervision, the BOCES program won awards for its uniqueness in its partnership with a local psychiatric center.

In his Descent of Madness series, Dr. Donner takes his readers on a psychological journey following complex distorted personalities. The first book, “Descent Into Madness”, draws readers into the world of a mysterious pyromaniac seeking to avenge past emotional traumas. “Descent into Madness” is currently in publication and available through Amazon, Kindle and other outlets.

The second book in the series, “The Boundaries of Hell”, examines the tortured life of a synesthesiac, a person that can smell emotions, stalked by a methodical psychopath. Dr. Donner continues to work on the untitled third book in the series.

With regard to ancient mythological power, Dr. Donner is releasing a series of novels called, “The Great Persian Saga”.

The first book in this series, Persia- Pride and Power, takes place in Persia circa, 500 B.C. This novel focuses on the great Persian dictator, Xerxes, and his hatred of the Greeks. Xerxes also confronts a rogue priest named Ningizzida, who haunts him as much as the Greeks. Artemisia, the greatest female warrior of all time, comes to Xerxes defense, as he faces external and internal threats to his sovereignty.

Book II of this saga, “Greece”, occurs during the same period as the first book. “Greece” centers on the Greek hero, Themistocles, and the birth of democracy. Themistocles struggles against aristocratic forces within Greek society as well his own hedonistic addictions, to press his egalitarian principals. The book brings a new perspective to Greek myth, spanning the Greek pantheon and examining the Gods’ motives. As Greek society evolves, the Persian hoard awaits on the horizon set to destroy the Greeks and their fledgling democracy.

Book III of the saga, “The Great Oracle at Delphi”, takes place at the mythological “center of the world”. As the novel opens, the Greeks and Persians converge on Delphi to seek out the Delphic Oracle for insight into the future regarding the threat of war between them. The Delphic Oracle made prognostations about religion, philosophy, life and death, and history in the ancient world. Although the Delphic Oracle wields significant influence over generations of Kings and entire civilizations, the Delphic Oracle does not seek to interfere in the affairs of men and women. Instead, the Delphic Oracle defers to the Greeks and Persians to interpret the wisdom of the God Apollo to determine their fate.

Book IV of the Saga, “Pray to the Wind”, finds the Persians invading the Greek homeland. It is the time of the battle of Thermopylae, as well as the destruction of the Acropolis. In the aftermath of the battle between tyranny and democracy, Dr. Donner explores the emotional toll on Artemisia, Themistocles and Xerxes, their relationships to each other and historical legacies.

Dr. Donner has also finished a novel about the Amazon woman of southern Ukraine. This novel, “The Violent Times”, takes readers to 1500 B.C. and focuses on the exploits of Deianeira, an Amazon heroine, who must battle the great Hittite Empire to save her tribe from genocide.

“There is really nothing else Ramas and I can teach you in preparation for this challenge… our chances of success will depend more on your brains rather than your swords.” Garith panned a slow, hard-eyed, look across the team… then shaped a small smile. “Remember, all you have to do is defeat a minor God!”

“Okay – when I open the gate… you go!” Garith’s mind stone flared… his hands shaping an intricate pattern, duplicating the images formed in his mind, as he carefully opened the ‘lightway’ that would take this team to the rebel leaders.

“Dell r’… get ‘em in there…” The ‘lightway’ flared as five shadowed figures moved toward the gate.
Ramas watched as Dell r’ rushed through first… his great sword in a neutral position… not threatening… but instantly ready for action. A mountain of iron hard muscle… with arms like braided steel… flaxen hair tied back in a tight braid… facial features locked in a grim battle-set.
Ramas chuckled as he thought quietly to himself. “Bet that look will put the rebel leaders in line really quick.”

“The stars be with you!” Ramas patted Rison on the shoulder as he stepped through with Muirisc tight by his side.

“The stars be with you!” In the darkness of the chamber, Ramas reached out with one hand to encourage the final two travelers. He knew that the Council had assigned a ‘protector’ class warrior to the team at the last moment but he had not yet seen the man in person. There had not been enough time to check every detail of every plan… at some point he had to trust the judgement of other personnel. Briefly glimpsed intelligence reports indicated that he was some kind of giant Elf with archaic armor straight from the legends of ancient times.

“Whoa! What was that…?” As the warrior surged passed, supporting the ‘ailing’ Ala, Ramas’ hand brushed the ‘protector’s’ armor. Instantly, his hand recoiled as if struck by a strong shock. Less than one second later both figures were gone and the gateway closed.

“Interesting…” Ramas pursed his lips in a moment of thought… his features totally neutral. “The wheel turns as the wheel turns… I must rethink some of our plans.”
