A LITTLE SHIVER is not my first book. That one was written—all 45 pages of it— at age 12 in Middle School at Bay Shore, NY. It was a bloody ghost story. Back in those days, however, girls didn’t write scary stories—not ladylike. My English teacher reprimanded me and wrote a note to my mother. A guidance counselor spoke to me. Everyone was upset. This ended my writing career for many years but fortunately not forever.

My career has taken several wildly different turns. In addition to years spent as a technical writer and editor, I also successfully sold my wildlife paintings. And for more than twenty years, I was in business as a forensic document expert, authenticating, buying and selling historic autographs and rare documents. (Yes, I had some very interesting clients.) All this happened in addition to getting a technical education, being happily married, and raising three successful sons.

Since retiring, I’m concentrating on fiction. MWA has published my story “How Not To Plan a Murder” and “Finding Your Stumbles.” Look for my contributions to “Letters Never Meant To Be Read.” I’m a member of the Authors Guild, the Maryland Writers Assn. and The Smithsburg Scribes.

My home is in Western Maryland where, with my black cat, Stella, I am producing more strange tales for my readers. There’s also a novel in progress. How do I describe my work? After two of my favorite authors: O’Henry-style, Stephen King-Lite.

Dayle King Searle is a true Idaho girl. Other than two years in California (which her husband says was just enough to give her a little bit of attitude) she has lived her entire life in southern Idaho. She was born in Pocatello, and has lived in Preston, Meridian (where she graduated from high school), Rexburg, and American Falls. She and her husband, Ron, now live in Shelley on a piece of farm land previously owned by his father. They have six children and an ever growing number of grandchildren.

My second husband was a wannabe Clint Eastwood carrying an arson, beating on me, shooting towards me, and hunting me like an animal. Many pregnancies I lived in the snow then many years hitching in snow hunting for my babies. Drug dealing and exotic strip dancing were a way to survive in the wake of being annihilated by spouses.

I dated my home confinement officer and was honored with a Governor’s pardon. My stomach exploded which took over a year and a half to walk. Lucifer threw a 16,000 pound building on me causing gangrene and many surgeries and procedures which took over a year and a half to walk. I had the worse case of M.R.S.A. in history which took over a year and a half to walk. I maintained employments and continued writing through destitution, pregnancies, savagery, prisons, and Northern winters.

Life’s accomplishments: I won six turkeys, nine trophies battling cocks, birthed five kids, won ten cakes, and caught nine ten pound Bass. I possess gloating rights to angling stories and jaded memories. I want a place for authors of any genre and victims of any crime to have a voice without family or people judging, preaching, bossing, threatening, interfering or alienating. I was kidnapped, beat and raped at nine then witness the same man beat, rape and shoot my two nine year old card playing Hillbilly girl friends. I witness the brutal beating and murder of an elderly man. Four of my children were stolen like I’m a baby factory, the fifth became an armed bank robber with her boyfriend, Jesse James. My first husband was a wounded vet. His arm was shot off in Vietnam. He beat me with his hook a lot, but that was mild compared to the other shocking things his friends and him did to me.

My second husband was a wannabe Clint Eastwood carrying an arson, beating on me, shooting towards me, and hunting me like an animal. Many pregnancies I lived in the snow then many years hitching in snow hunting for my babies. Drug dealing and exotic strip dancing were a way to survive in the wake of being annihilated by spouses. I dated my home confinement officer and was honored with a Governor’s pardon. My stomach exploded which took over a year and a half to walk.

Lucifer threw a 16,000 pound building on me causing gangrene and many surgeries and procedures which took over a year and a half to walk. I had the worse case of M.R.S.A. in history which took over a year and a half to walk. I maintained employments and continued writing through destitution, pregnancies, savagery, prisons, and Northern winters. This is only a few things Lucifer did to me.

Life’s accomplishments: I won six turkeys, nine trophies battling cocks, birthed five kids, won ten cakes, and caught nine ten pound Bass. I possess gloating rights to angling stories and jaded memories. I want a place for authors of any genre and victims of any crime to have a voice without family or people judging, preaching, bossing, threatening, interfering or alienating me. I understand they’re Holier than me, but they make authors of my genre feel we’re a bad image or influence on their precious perfect family and life.

Every story I write is true. God is real, but He can not physically stop wars, rapist, abusers, murders nor narcissist. I can’t compete with Syria, Mexico or third world countries tragedies, but my story is horrifying and will shock you over and over. It’s the saddest story in today’s world.

Karl Drinkwater is originally from Manchester but lived in Wales for twenty years, and now calls Scotland his home. He’s a full-time author, edits fiction for other writers, and was a professional librarian for over twenty-five years. He has degrees in English, Classics, and Information Science.

He writes in multiple genres: his aim is always just to tell a good story.
