I wish I could say that I’ve always excelled in self-development. Truth to be told, I used to be completely opposite – I drifted through life open to new experiences but without direction. Often, I was busy doing nothing and wasting my time. Very attractive image, right?

No drastic, dramatic, or magical event happened to push me towards change; I just wanted to change. And this is the key, to change – you need to want to change.

I started by changing my relationships, and with time, social interactions, and ingrained habits. I didn’t like how unproductively I spent my time, so I created tools for myself to be more productive. The same goes for social interactions and “bad” habits that I was working on to become better.

The conflict has caused a major refugee crisis. As one of their most illuminating concepts, those traditions relate that there is a group of esoteric teachings—the ‘Four Portals’—which set forth the true nature of physical reality and techniques of powerful elemental magic, or “sorcery.” The first traces of the teachings are thought to have appeared as part of the lore of the pre-Tibetan Zhang Zhung culture that arose in Tibet several thousand years ago, but may have originated far earlier. Being a forbidden body of knowledge, said to convey enormous powers, the teachings disappear from the historical record for countless centuries, not to reemerge until the 7th century A.D. in the arcane scriptures of the ancient pre-Buddhist B’on religion.

The B’on traditions relate this historic event as occurring as early as 18,000 to 16,000 B.C. Although still shrouded in mystery, our most recent research indicates that the extant evidence places the earliest date of the Zhang Zhung culture at about 6,000 B.C., although the date of 18,000 to 16,000 B.C. may indicate the existence of a true Zhang Zhung or pre-Zhang Zhung culture existing prior to the ‘Younger Dryas Boundary’ cataclysmic event that effectively erased early civilizations from the historical record.
Much like our most recent historical Buddha, Shenrab renounced his life as a prince of the royal family to become a monk. Over a period of “many years,” the traditions relate, he gained access to secret knowledge that had been imparted, recorded, and hidden away some two-thousand years earlier by an entity known as “Gekhoe.” With this knowledge Shenrab achieved enlightenment and “otherworldly powers,” then later composed a comprehensive body of teachings to instruct qualified seekers on the means and techniques of attaining the most elevated wisdom and power. The popular advice, and contextually good advice is, “Stop Majoring In The Minors!” This book flies in the face of that advice.

Rev. Teddy Asiel Jones is currently the Chairman of the Missionary Church Association in Jamaica and Pastor of Grace Missionary Church. He has been in pastoral ministry since 2003 having previously served as pastor for Shalom Missionary Church for thirteen (13) years (2003-2016). This is his second stint at Grace, having served as Assistant Pastor there between December 2003 and July 2007 while serving as pastor of Shalom Missionary Church. Let’s Major In The Minors is his first published book, but this comes on the heels of his “A Caribbean Theology of The Environment” article being published in the Caribbean Journal of Evangelical Theology (CJET).

Rev. Jones is affectionately called, “The Ghetto Priest” due to his involvement in the Inner City and his commitment to the cause of justice for the oppressed. In 2009, he was one of the three (3) winners in the First Caribbean Bank’s Unsung Heroes competition, in recognition of the years of selfless service to the Greater Grants Pen community. Given his passion for justice, community development, truth, integrity, forgiveness, conflict resolution and related matters an award such as this came as no surprise.

Rev. Jones is also an educator at the tertiary level, currently serving as an Adjunct Lecturer in the Department of Sociology and Social Work at the Jamaica Theological Seminary. Other roles previously held at the Seminary include Director of Student Affairs, Director of Admissions and Recruitment and Deputy Director of Student Affairs.

Rev. Jones is heavily involved in mentoring and leadership training in various sectors of society. This is facilitated primarily through RENEWED Ministries, a youth based ministry with a
strong mentoring and leadership emphasis. He is Board Chairman of PATHH Ministries (Pastors According To His Heart) .

Rev. Jones’s educational background is diverse having been educated at the Jamaica Theological Seminary in Kingston Jamaica, Dallas Theological Seminary in the USA and ALICT (African Leadership Institute for Community Transformation) in South Africa. As a life-long learner he is currently reading for the Master of Arts in Public Theology degree at Jamaica Theological Seminary. Along the way he has completed various certifications including: Leadership and Community Development, Dispute Resolution,Youth Entrepreneurship, Life Coaching, Guidance and Counselling, Career Counselling, Restorative Justice and life coaching. In retrospect, I wish I’d continued recording, for what I saw in that instant is difficult to describe, even now. Suffice it to say that it had a body like that of a manta ray—upon who’s tail the balloonist had been impaled—or a manta ray combined with a bat, albeit huge, and that it was covered with a kind of camouflage which reminded me of pictures I’d seen of Jupiter—just a roil of purples and pinks and browns. I suppose that was when it first hit me: the possibility that there might be a connection between this thing and the Jupiter 6 probe. That the probe might have brought something back, even if it had just been a sprinkling of microbes on its surface.

And then there was an explosion somewhere above us, the concussion of which rocked our balloon, and we all looked up to see Gas Monkey—my God, it was like the sun!—on fire; and yet that wasn’t all we saw, for as it dropped it became evident that there were more of the bat/manta ray things attached, suckling it as it fell, crawling upon it like flies. Then it passed us like some kind of great meteor—its occupants shrieking and calling out—and was gone below, the heat of it still painting our faces, its awful smell, which was the smell of rotten eggs, filling our nostrils.

And then we were just drifting, all of us crouched low in the basket … and the only sounds were those of Karen sobbing and my own pounding heart.
