Thus, they visit the historic California gold rush and then early Colonial America. Then, they are pulled forward unexpectedly to a future time of trouble, where robots serve and forced to fight in a senseless war. They manage to break free and take off only to discover they have a stowaway. But the stowaway has a device which will help them to go further back with each leap. Thus, they then time-travel to the Renaissance and meet the historical figure, Leonardo Da Vinci, But, by mistake, they take off without the stowaway and his device. Then, they are pulled forward again, but only to the time of the Reformation, where they meet Martin Luther and have an argument over faith. Then, with the help of a new fuel formula, using alcohol, they manage to arrive at Camelot and finally, Ancient Jerusalem, where they, at last, realize the real answer: the true end & goal of their mission.

I, James M. Becher, was Born on June 8, 1943, of a Christian family and accepted Christ at an early age  Interested in writing and drama since High School, I graduated from Grace L. Hill Memorial Christian School, where I participated in several plays and got A’s in English Grammar, and wrote several short stories, poems, and articles, usually incorporating my faith into my writings.  While attending St. Petersburg Jr. College, in St. Petersburg, FL, I won second prize in a writing contest with a Biblical short story, called “Beggarman-Thief,” which forms part of my first novel. I attended Bob Jones University, in Greenville, S.C., and then Clearwater Christian College, graduating with a B.A. in Bible-lit, going on to Biblical School of Theology (now Biblical Seminary) in Hatfield, Pennsylvania and graduating in 1974 with an M.Div. Ordained in November of 1974, I served in different areas of Ministry, one of which was a foreign student ministry, which is where he met his dear wife, Berenice from Venezuela, and which is also where I started writing my first two novels.
Berenice and I were married in 1980 in St. Petersburg, FL.  In 1989, we went to Venezuela for an extended stay, where, along with teaching English to the Shell American Oil Company’s employees, at the same time I completed my purposeful time travel novel, Impossible Journey, A Tale of times and Truth, using a friend’s computer. Upon returning to the US, I also completed my Biblical novel (a historical fiction novel of the time of Christ), “Of Such Is The Kingdom,” which I had started before we left, and of which the short story, “Beggarman-Thief” is a part.  It was published by PublishAmerica in 2003.
Also shortly after returning to the US, I began publishing my self-help ezine,  “Inspirational Success Tips,”  my articles from which now form my self-help book “Principles of the Kingdom.”
Later, I revised the sci-fi novel, Impossible Journey, A Tale of Times and Truth, and it was published in January of 2005.
In 2007, I revised and expanded the Biblical novel, OF SUCH IS THE KINGDOM, A Novel of Biblical Times, adding PART III about the early church.
I also completed a short self-help book (or booklet–roughly 18,000 words) based on my articles from my ezine with quotable quotes for each chapter. It’s titled Principles of the Kingdom (God’s success principles) and was published in 2012
In November 2013, I preached my “Christmas Victory” message, based on an insight on Isaiah 7:14, which the LORD had shown me in seminary. I also gave a history of the writing of “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.” This resulted in the writing of my latest novel, The Christmas Victory, A Gem of A Sermon, All Wrapped Up in a Historical Novel,  which was published in July of 2014.
This year (2018) I have been further revising and updating all my books. Pushing the River by Barbara Monier is a family drama that highlights many of the difficulties we all face in our busy lives as we try to hold our families together, especially as our children grow and leave the nest to spread their wings. Madeline is a typical suburban middle-aged mother. Now in her mid to late fifties, with her ex-husband departed several years ago and her children grown up and living away, she lives alone in the big, old house she grew up in. Despite its size, Madeline uses just a few rooms, with the remainder still containing the memories and collections of a family’s lifetime. Over a short period of time, Madeline’s solo and lonely existence begins to change. She meets a new man, who then suddenly decides he’s moving in with her and an empty house begins to fill, as first her daughter-in-law and then her daughter-in-law’s pregnant fifteen-year-old sister arrive, seeking help. Suddenly Madeline goes from being all alone to managing a new relationship as well as providing comfort for a teenager and her baby. Madeline faces the upheaval and the associated angst with a mixture of terror and determination as she seeks to “push the river” and meet all her family’s needs and demands, whilst still looking after her own self.

This could well be the story of any modern family, broken by dislocation and divorce. As a Mother, Madeline feels the need to hold her fractured family together and to keep and recreate the many traditions that defined them as a family. I particularly enjoyed author Barbara Monier’s description of Christmas together, as the new cast of characters sought to compete with and dispute the traditions of Madeline and her children, who had also returned home for the holidays. Looking at Pushing the River, as a social commentary on the family structure, I have no doubt many readers will identify with, particularly Madeline and the struggles she has to begin a whole new adventure at an age when she should be relaxing and enjoying the fruits of her labour. I particularly enjoyed the flashbacks to Madeline’s mother and Madeline’s life as a child, which shaped the woman she was today. This is a very readable book and one that reminds us that we are not alone in our own struggles with family and the desire to keep it together and alive. Madeline’s abiding love for others is what comes through most strongly in the narrative and I am sure we can all identify with that.
