While wandering aimlessly, trying to cope, James happens across a facility run by the one and only Marisa, who screwed up the world in the first place. Marisa is running her facility with a team of chimpanzees who she manipulated into consciousness through hallucinogenic drug treatments. Marisa wants James to tries these treatments to see if she can get him to communicate with plants, a type of testing both he and the chimpanzees are very suspicious about. This sets James and his chimpanzee friends on a mission to try to discover her rotten plan.

On the other hand, we have Jose’s dream world. Jose is a simple detective named Alex Meaks who’s fresh on the job as an Alaskan State Detective in a small town called Cordova. Jose thinks his dream world is boring until one day Alex and his partner, Het, uncover a mass grave underneath a frozen pond where 5 guys and 5 girls of almost identical features have drowned. This sends Alex on a chase through the mountains to find out why these people were killed. Not only does he go through the mountains, but he eventually goes into and under the mountains…about a mile under the mountains. Under the mountains he finds a civilization of plant cultivating people, who name Alex as king and elect him to join them in a battle with another civilization under another mountain.

The boys think they can switch from their dreams to reality without their lives changing, but when an authority figure vaguely named Dr. Campbell kidnaps them at gunpoint and informs them they may be disrupting the balance between universes their lives become a whole lot more complicated…and so do their dreams.
