The assassin was positioned on a rooftop of a three-story building across the street from the mortuary. Large snowflakes were falling covering the two-lane road. The sliding glass doors of the mortuary opened and two large men dressed in black exited and scanned up and down the street. The first man rushed down the twelve steps to the waiting limousine and opened the rear door. Pizza Joe Straga, head of the Straga Mafia family, exited the mortuary followed by two additional body guards. The first shot from the assassin’s Heckler & Koch HK PSG-1 Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle equipped with a Bugger & Thomet suppressor was a head shot making an open casket for Pizza Joe very difficult. Four additional shots took out the bodyguards while the virgin snow turned crimson.

For twenty years, I was a foster mom to two profoundly disabled young women. They became the center of the family, and everyone who knew us, knew them. We traveled all over the US and Canada, schlepping wheelchairs, oxygen tanks, G-tube feeding supplies and medications for six weeks at a time every summer.

The idea for Raven was born from my experience with the girls. Though one was non-verbal and the other used very few words, they knew so much more than they were able to express. I would make a terrible eye-witness to a crime, but they noticed the smallest changes in their surroundings.

Raven is nothing like my daughters, but I shall be forever grateful to them for allowing me to share their world. These days, I am a roving retiree living on the road with my husband, and my biological daughter has taken over daily care of her foster sister.

Supposedly there is a booked locked away in everyone. I am no different I have always had this secret desire to write a story or spin a yarn. At the ripe old age of 60 I told myself if I do not write a book now then I will probably never do it. The decision to write my book soon met a huge hurdle, what shall I write about?
Inspiration came from my little rescue dog Peanut. Peanut is a 4 year old Spanish Jack Russell street dog; you can see Peanut on the cover of the paperback version of the book. A UK rescue centre spotted him in a Spanish dog pound and rescued him from an untimely end. The first time I saw this little dog I knew he was mine.
Sat one evening with Peanut curled up on the sofa beside me I began to wonder. Where has this little dog been what has he seen and what adventures has he had. Peanut is a dear dog with a very loving nature but he can be a little naughty especially if it involves food or cats. That was the spark I needed and with a change of name Jasper’s Journey Home was born.
A cat is what gets Jasper into trouble and starts his journey. Along the way he meets some great new friends both four legged and two legged but he never forgets where his heart lays and his true home is.
Does Jasper make it home?

Is writing a book easy? No it is not but it is an amazing journey. When I sat down to write most evenings I became absorbed into this wonderland just me a laptop and this little dogs story. If you have ever thought about writing a book or short story do it just do it.
I said writing a book is not easy well of course putting the words onto the screen is simple. I found the best thing to do when I couldn’t think what to write was to just leave it there for a while. I would let the story sit in my mind playing out ideas. Sometimes it could be days before the right idea came but come they did. OK it took me two years to write Jasper’s Journey Home but I got a great deal of pleasure writing the story during those two years and I hope you get just as much pleasure reading it.
