Trevor D’Silva has a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering; M.S. degrees in Engineering Management, and Environmental Engineering; and an Associate degree in Accounting. He has lectured in mechanical engineering and environmental science subjects at various colleges. Fateful Decisions is his first novel, encompassing history and fiction from WW I to the end of WW II. He uses his free time to expand his knowledge in history and reading crime, thrillers, and mystery novels.

He loves animals, collecting stamps, old coins, books and also anything related to history.

About The ’69

The story is set on a county estate in the west of Ireland. The last landlord features in the story, he returned for the Great war a broken man and converted the coach house into a garage to cater for his passion for cars.
The story is told in the first person, and much of it is centred around my efforts to complete the restoration of a 1969 Jaguar. My father and I began the work, but before I got to know the man he passed away. I wait patiently until my own son is of age and we begin the work again. I revel in the work and the opportunity to bond with the boy. Alas, I too fall prey to a weak heart and pass away; but not before I glimpse the image of my own father lurking in the shadows.
The story follows my beloved wife and her trials without me. My son finds work abroad and has to leave her alone in the great house. Daily she pines for me, glancing towards the garage where she suspects some part of my spirit still dwells; since it was there I spent my happiest hours.
I return some years later to haunt the garage from the shadows. On my first visit I witness my love collapsing, giving in to grief and passing away before me in the courtyard; and yet I linger. I have not been allowed to pass to whatever other world exists to join her.
My son, now a grown man, and his partner return to the house. He has returned to convalesce from an illness, though the story does not dwell on it. With time on his hands he takes up the task of restoring the car again, the distraction is good for him. I watch from the wings, heartbroken that I can not take part in the work or interact with him. There is something else, I am not alone, there are other forces in the shadows, frustrated and angry. I suspect my father is one.
Work progresses on the car and his domestic and financial troubles come to light. The car is finished and offered for sale in time to ease these troubles.
A suspicious buyer appears, who after some investigation turns out to be the son of the last landlord. The car it transpires had links to the landlord. A father and son began the work, I oversaw my son as he completed it and his own son, a child, is there to witness it’s completion. The car is sold to the old man. I watch it leave and am joined from the shadows by my father and the landlord, all three of us turn back and vanish into those same shadows.

I have lived all my life in Donegal, on the rugged northwest coast of Ireland. Recently heralded as one of the most interesting places in the world to visit. The landscape is indeed breathtaking and it would be easy to say that the wildness and ruggedness of this last frontier of Europe was my inspiration to write, but that’s not entirely true. His screenplay, Cracked Mirror, won Best Screenplay at the World Music & International Film Festival 2015. Cracked Mirror as a screenplay was also a finalist in several film festivals, including Cannes Screenplay Competition, 2015.

Cracked Mirror was turned into a novel in 2016. It’s the first of a series of novels called the Daydream Believer Book Series. Next in the series is “Timmy’s Mr. Angel”, a novel about young boy who gets supernatural help from an Angel, to keep his parents from divorcing. How to do that is something an 8-year-old boy could never do alone.
