As fast as he could, he pulled the hammer back and fired, the first Comanche jerked once and hit the ground. The other warrior was no more than two feet away now. Heck wondered if he had another bullet left. Had he fired five or six shots? He couldn’t remember. Saying a silent prayer, Heck pulled the hammer back and looked at his approaching enemy. The point of the warrior’s lance was inches away from his chest when heck pulled the trigger. The barrel of the Walker was almost touching the chest of the charging Indian. Heck heard no sound, but saw the smoke pour out of the barrel and the big warrior dropped to his knees, and fell on top of the young Ranger.

Lieutenant Sutter and Corporal Anderson approached the men on horseback, ready to do what had to be done. Looking at the group of riders, however, Sutter immediately recognized he had made a terrible mistake. These men were not military, not even by Southern standards. They were unkempt, filthy, and armed to the teeth. His heart sank as he noticed that most of the detachment were Mexican and their guns were not in their holsters. “What is going on here?” he said, unable to believe what he was seeing.
The lead rider smiled and said, “This was even easier than Senor Cortina said it would be. Thank you.” Without saying another word, the man raised his pistol and fired two quick shots, hitting both Lieutenant Sutter and Corporal Anderson between the eyes.

The man wheeled around with his rifle as Heck landed on his back, but it was a fruitless gesture. There was a look of pained surprise on the man’s face as Heck covered his mouth and pulled him to the floor. Heck plunged his knife into the man’s chest several times, as he kept his hand over the man’s mouth. After several seconds his muffled cries were silent.

Before the Second World War, Japan and Australia had been successful trading partners, but after Japan’s attack on Pearl Harbour, Australia was soon at war with Japan. Various attacks by Japan soon followed, and the citizens of Australia became afraid and were ready to bolt inland from the coastal regions. In 1942, General McArthur set up his headquarters for the Pacific in Brisbane and, as a result, the city needed a civilian population to ensure the smooth operation of its essential services. Due to its proximity to the Pacific battlefronts, it was a crucial geographic point for resupplying troops in battle – from both sides of the war. It was obvious, although the invasion of these cities by the Japanese would be remote, a plan was soon hatched to make newsreel films and articles that would not only reassure Australia’s civilians that they would be safe from Japanese. At the same time, they would also be leaked to the Japanese in an effort to convince them that Brisbane was too difficult a city to invade. The Ministry Communications Unit chronicles the creation and development of the special public relations unit that created those movies and articles.

This is a story showing the development of the unit, along with the romances and intrigues that developed.

Retired Traffic Management Project Manager who spent most of his life in sales, public transport and traffic management. Born on 18th May 1945 in the Sydney suburb of Camperdown, while his father was away fighting in World War 2.
Though he had been to school in Leichardt, his primary education began mainly at West Melbourne School after his family moved to Melbourne. Gordon has some notable certificates to his name; In 1998, he received the Certificate of Transport Management from Queensland University. He also received the Certificate IV in Project Management.
Gordon has three sons with his first wife and now has four grandchildren. He married his current wife, Kay, in Brisbane in 2003, and she has been his inspiration ever since.
Gordon has enjoyed the luxury of residing and working in different parts of Australia and in the process enjoyed different employment opportunities. This great working experience in the public transportation industry and then civil construction came to an awesome end in 2013 as he retired at Caloundra, Queensland.
After retirement, he took an interest in researching his family. This research helped him discover links back to the 1400’s and even a distant link to the Royal family of the United Kingdom. Also, during this research, he discovered he had relatives who fought in the Great War. Though he was familiar with his relatives in the 2nd World War, he knew nothing about the men in his family who had fought in the Great War.
This research and discovery gave him knowledge and ideas which brought about the writing of his first book “A family that went to war”. After publishing his first book, other books sprang up easily. His second book was “An Australian story” – the saga of an Australian family over two centuries. In this book, he wrote about Australia early settlement and the events that made Australia and the makings of a family. Amazingly, this book sat on the Amazon best-selling list for the Kindle history of Australia and Oceania for about 10 days, giving him further inspiration as he wrote his third book within a calendar year.
He has since written 4 other books.
The first fictional story is “The Ministry Communications Unit” is based on a fictitious movie company set up by the Government during World War 2. He based a lot of this story on the locations that surround Caloundra.
This was followed by “Lady Ruth Bromfield” an inspirational biography about a Jewish girl, raised by an English, Church of England priest and her progress to becoming an inspirational leading industrialist.
And the third book “Men With a Mission is an eye-opening account of events in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos during the 1969’s and 1970’s. The main players in this story are a Christian, A Jew and a Muslim who were brought together by an astute Australian Officer and made them into a significant group of investigators.
His latest book he Sensual Retiree is he Sensual Retiree.t is expected to be released by mid-2018. The Sensual Retiree is a romance story about a woman whose husband dies shortly after he retires. The story follows her life transitioning into a widow who moves into a retirement village. She makes new friends and discovers that it is possible for a widow in her sixties and seventies to be able to enjoy the company of male suitors.
Gordon has been able to utilise his knowledge gained while in the army, driving taxis (he actually became the Victorian Taxi driver of the year at one stage,) along with his vast knowledge of the Civil construction industry in his writings.
He has already started writing another novel about an Outback Australian Family, Their loves and Triamps set among a background of unfair disappointments​

Author Bio:
L. L. Thomsen (1972 – ) was born in Denmark where she lived until the age of 19. After finishing college in Sorø, she went straight to the UK, where working as a bartender in Sheffield, she took some time to practise her English and get acquainted with the British way of life, including strong black tea that definitely required a touch of milk, and the need to look the ‘wrong’ way when crossing the road.

After a year, she briefly returned to Denmark, but having meet her now-husband in the UK, she chose to move back and settle, living for some time in a rented draughty house with a dirt floor in the cellar, a money-eating electricity meter that required frequent feeding, and a few friendly slugs that kept leaving trails on the kitchen floor.

Having always tinkered with the idea of writing ‘something’, the time was never quite right, however, as she was busy instead with undergraduate studies in Archaeology and Prehistory, retail management, NVQs and teaching. After leaving work to look after her first child in 2007, the opportune moment arrived to pursue an old dream.

Armed with a love of fantasy, a slightly geeky mindset, and an unleashed wild muse, she began the new journey into authorhood and has rarely looked back. “When you have an idea it just has to be set free,” she says, adding, “My somewhat unorthodox approach to style and flow has been a way for me to test my personal, individual voice. It’s a fluid thing, however. In the future, it might alter to match the shape of new projects.”

Linda currently lives in the UK, Nottinghamshire, with her husband, two kids, two cats and one dog. As with her writing, she approaches life with a nod to the saying: ‘fear nothing, respect everything’. She enjoys horse riding, sci-fi movies, travelling, reading fantasy (but not exclusively), and so much more.
