Richard Stanley was raised in a lower income area of South San Diego. Although he was a high school dropout, he obtained a business degree as a serial entrepreneur—in bank robbery.

As acknowledgment of his work in the banking industry, he was graciously accepted into an institution of higher education operated by the California state prison system to further his studies in the criminal justice field with a full-ride scholarship for no less than seven years, out of a possible eight.

During his tenure at the Donovan campus, he specialized in a course in hustling and earned an informal degree in procuring life’s necessities and wilderness survival skills. For his efforts, he was rewarded with a sabbatical of sorts and was allowed seven months of personal time in solitude for reflection to just appreciate life. He was off the grid, so to speak, and not allowed cell phones, laptops, or even eating utensils at times. Although Stanley initially declined the retreat time, the institution insisted he spend time in a remote part of campus.

Because most employers would not recognize his degree in higher education, Stanley found it difficult to obtain employment in any field once he left his educational institution. He eventually became an ironworker until he was sidelined with an injury. Ensayos que tuvieron éxito; ensayos que fracasaron. Día a día me enfrenté a pruebas y a desafíos para medir mi fuerza de voluntad y mi capacidad para mantenerme firme en un plan para mejorar mi vida. Después de años, estoy seguro de haber hallado y desarrollado un método efectivo, sí, pero fundamentalmente un método sencillo.

Comencé a interesarme por el tema hace mucho tiempo, cuando buscaba consejos sobre cómo obtener mejores resultados, y cómo obtenerlos más rápido. Aunque encontré varias respuestas satisfactorias en estos libros, también encontré problemas. O, para ser más preciso, no encontré la solución a ciertos problemas.
¿Qué debo hacer si estoy cansado? ¿Cuánto tiempo pasará hasta que empiece a sentir los progresos? ¿Qué hago si el método me resulta demasiado sencillo?

Éstas fueron algunas de las preguntas que comenzaron a dar vueltas en mi cabeza. Ningún libro de auto ayuda me dejaba completamente satisfecho. Ninguna estrategia de desarrollo personal era infalible a las preguntas que me planteaba, y siempre llegaba a callejones sin salida cuando intentaba aplicarlas en mí mismo.
Entonces entendí que debía tomar lo mejor de cada una de las estrategias que había probado y crear un método nuevo. También utilicé mi experiencia personal, las respuestas de mi cuerpo y de mi mente a los diversos desafíos y retos a los que me había enfrentado con el correr de los años. Cómo leer El Camino Al Éxito

El Camino Al Éxito está dividido en tres partes. En la primera parte presento el concepto de pequeños hábitos y explico por qué crear hábitos permite obtener grandes resultados gracias a la fuerza de voluntad. En la siguiente parte enseño sobre el funcionamiento del cerebro y muestro cómo entrenarlo para adaptarse a los pequeños hábitos. En la última parte doy consejos prácticos para aplicar la estrategia de los pequeños hábitos en la vida cotidiana.

Cada parte está dividida en dos o tres capítulos, con un total de 8 capítulos. Al final de cada capítulo hay un pequeño desafío que debes superar a partir del momento mismo en que lo leas. La idea de estos desafíos es poner en práctica lo que hayas aprendido en ese capítulo, y también comenzar a desarrollar tus propios pequeños hábitos.
Personalmente recomiendo leer El Camino Al Éxito en el orden en que lo escribí. Los capítulos están ordenados de forma que cada uno conduce al siguiente, y van adentrándose cada vez más en la explicación de cómo y por qué la estrategia de los pequeños hábitos funciona. Si por algún motivo decides no leer el libro completo, o saltear algún capítulo en particular – no hay problema, no me voy a ofender – entonces te recomiendo que de cualquier forma leas el desafío que se encuentra al final de cada capítulo.
