Summer’s Complaint, My family’s courageous, century-long struggle with a rare genetic cancer syndrome by Laura Kieger

About Summer’s Complaint, My family’s courageous, century-long struggle with a rare genetic cancer syndrome by Laura Kieger

Summer’s Complaint will be FREE from April 25th (National DNA Day) through April 29th.

Familial Adenomatous Polyposis, or FAP, accounts for roughly 1 percent of hereditary colorectal cancer and carries an extremely high lifetime risk of colon cancer and elevated risks for other exceedingly rare cancers. It is an autosomal dominant condition caused by germline mutations in the adenomatous polyposis coli (APC) gene. By the age of fifty, nearly 99 percent of untreated FAP patients will have developed cancer.

This is the dark shadow that has lingered over one family since at least 1911, when a matriarch was first seen at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota for symptoms that would become commonplace in her descendants. Three of her five children died in their thirties with what they’d come to call “summer’s complaint.” Her granddaughter, genetically programmed by a defect on her 5th chromosome also developed cancer, which would ultimately take her life.

This is that family’s sometimes tragic story. As told by a daughter, aunt, and sister who has been surrounded by its relentless destruction her entire life, Summer’s Complaint is at once a testament to the courage of those one family has lost and a journey toward understanding hereditary predispositions to disease and how best to combat them.

About The Heart of Gold

Heart of Gold is a gripping romance thriller that explores not only the dangerous territory of love and marriage, but also the changing culture of modern Indian city life. Mukesh and Nithya are caught between time-honored traditions and the new, fast-paced global lifestyle.
Mukesh, a successful business man on a steady rise in the corporate world, is hesitant when his mother urges him to find a wife. But when she introduces him to the bride she’s chosen for him, Mukesh is surprised by his luck: Nithya is beautiful, smart, cultured, and from a good family. It seems like a perfect match, and he finds himself falling in love.
But before he can settle into his new married life, Nithya tells him the horrible truth: her parents blackmailed her into the marriage. Instead of love and companionship, it’s longing and agony for Mukesh while Nithya feels only anger and resentment towards him and her parents.
To make matters worse, Giridhar, a flame from Nithya’s past, unexpectedly makes his way back into her life. At first, Nithya is wary of her ex, but as she grows more and more distant from her husband and her parents, she finds herself letting him in. Giridhar convinces her to go away with him on vacation, where events take a dangerous turn. When she awakens, locked inside a lodge alone in the dead of night, to a strange noise at the door, she realizes that perhaps she shouldn’t have trusted him so blindly.
Meanwhile, Mukesh struggles to come to terms with his failed marriage and his wife’s abandonment. With no one else to turn to, Nithya calls him in her desperation, but will he be willing to help her despite his anger and wounded pride? Can they put the past behind them to disentangle her from the peril she put herself in?

Away From Here: A Young Adult Novel

About Away From Here: A Young Adult Novel

The book is a semi-autobiographical story of the power of first loves, first losses, and coming of age while living with a mentally ill parent. It tells the story of 17 year old Logan—a self proclaimed ‘mixed up mixed kid’ who just began his senior year in high school. Lost at home, and a little too into comics for his own good, Logan leaves the Catholic high school he’s attended for years to return to his local public school. When he does he meets Annalise, a girl who is, in every way, a goddess. Little does he know how much Anna’s struggles mirror his own, and how much loving her will change him forever. Narrated by Logan as an adult looking back on his senior year of high school, ‘Away From Here’ captures the intensity of emotions, struggles, and complexities of being a teen.

When Zoey Fell Too Far by Amy Sparling

About When Zoey Fell Too Far by Amy Sparling

Zoey’s sheltered life isn’t so sheltered anymore.

From bestselling author Amy Sparling, When Zoey fell too Far is an upper-Young Adult novel about high school, dating, and desperately trying to fit in. Perfect for fans of Abbi Glines, Tijan, and Jay Crownover.

Zoey Caplan has led a sheltered life, but it’s never really bothered her. In fact, she just went on a date with a super hot senior, thank you very much. But what she thought was a fun date leads to a new nickname on the school’s unofficial Dis List: Biggest Prude. Maybe if she wasn’t such a pathetically good rule follower, she could get her name off the list. Maybe, just maybe, if Zoey started living less like an old lady and more like a seventeen-year-old girl, she could experience high school like everyone else does.

Fed up with being a loser, Zoey decides to experience all the things she’s missed out on over the years: parties, underage drinking, ditching class, and most off all, hooking up. Guys seem to love the attention she gives them, all except for Jonah Thedford. The gorgeous bad boy can flirt better than anyone but he’s the only guy immune to Zoey’s charms. And yeah, he’s the one she truly wants, but in order to stop being a prude, Zoey gives her affection to other guys instead.

It turns out that crossing over to the dark side is easy. Almost too easy. The moment Zoey’s name drops off the Dis List, it’s added right back.

As Biggest Slut.

If she wants to make things right again, she’ll have to change a few things in her new crazy life. Luckily, Jonah is more than willing to help her.

This book has mature content and some profanity. Recommended for older teen readers.

Will Daniella be able to complete her final mission and return to New Mexico to be with her family before time runs out?

On Borrowed Time is a supernatural thriller ramped up with steamy love scenes, ancient magic from the goddesses, and nonstop action.

The Men – A Tale of Alien Terror (Part One)

About The Men – A Tale of Alien Terror (Part One)

Dusk, in the middle of nowhere. Beth pulls into a rest area and shuts off the engine. Helicopters can be heard in the distance; Frodo whimpers and whines. There is a drone of crickets as Beth leans against the wheel. The place is abandoned save for a single pickup and camper.

She sits back after a moment, stroking the dog’s neck, and rolls her head to look at the truck. It sits silently in the twilight about a hundred feet away: quiet as a tomb, with no sign of a driver. She experiences a wave of nausea—which sends her hurrying toward the restrooms—as the sound of the choppers rushes closer.

She collapses over the toilet, vomiting repeatedly, as the helicopters thunder overhead. The pounding of the rotors diminishes as she spits and wipes her mouth. At last she reaches up with trembling fingers and flushes the bowl, and the water swirls down, gurgling. She slowly catches her breath. The crickets drone and Frodo barks. She sits on the floor with her back against the cold cinderblocks—notices a shoe covered in green plastic just outside the stall.

She looks up. An eye is visible between the doorjamb and the wall. It blinks as she shrieks and suddenly disappears.

The Arrival, 1,000,000 BC: Secrets of the Ancient World by Hawking, Cantrell, Chellings

About The Arrival, 1,000,000 BC: Secrets of the Ancient World by Hawking, Cantrell, Chellings

Free on Amazon Kindle 4/24 – 4/26/18. Discover the Realities behind Legends of Antediluvian Civilizations and Ancient Extraterrestrial Influences. The creation stories of civilizations worldwide relate that their progenitors came from the stars or the heavens. This Kindle Unlimited book explores these ancient traditions and reveals knowledge that for long millenniums has remained concealed under layers of legend and secrecy.
Contemporary research reveals a stunning antiquity of civilization on our planet as archaeology unearths buried civilizations and discovers long submerged cities. Previous academic theories of the origins of civilization have fallen forfeit to finds at archaeological sites worldwide: Images from NASA’s ‘Operation IceBridge’ missions in Antarctica reveal structures lying beneath 1.4 miles of ice (c. 96,000 BC); the ancient Egyptian ‘Turin Royal Canon’ records the reign of the pre-dynastic “Gods of Ancient Egypt” as beginning in 37,920 BC; Gunung Padang in Indonesia (c. 22,000 BC); inscriptions in the ancient Egyptian Temple of Edfu, recounting a historical record extending back to 18,000 BC; Nabta Playa in the Sahara Desert of southern Egypt (c. 16,500 BC); Puma Punku in the Andean Mountains of western Bolivia (c. 15,000 BC); Göbekli Tepe in the Anatolia region of Turkey (c. 12,000 BC); the vast submerged city in the Gulf of Khambhat (c. 9,500 BC); the underwater Yonaguni complex (c. 8,000 BC); and the extensive sunken city of Dwarka (c. 7,000 BC).
The evidence of exceedingly ancient civilizations, coupled with the remaining traces of their advanced technologies and abilities, raises profound questions. Archaeologists point out that many of their constructions—such as the Great Pyramid or the incredibly precise andesite stonework at Puma Punku—would even today be extremely difficult to duplicate, and certainly impossible to surpass.
Bearing mute witness to the magnificence of mysterious ancient civilizations, the whole theory of progress hesitates before these testaments in stone. How did small stone-age cultures rise to the level where they were able to construct vast cities and immense megalithic complexes?
The creation stories of civilizations worldwide relate that their progenitors came from the stars or the heavens. Native Americans recount that their antecedents were “The Sky People” and “Star Beings.” The builders of Teotihuacan describe their gods as having descended from the heavens. Egyptian texts speak of their “bringers of knowledge” coming from Sahu and Sopdit (Orion and Sirius) in a “cosmic egg radiating colored light,” circa 18,000 BC.
The pre-Tibetan Zhang Zhung tradition describes their “god” Gekhoe as having descended to earth in a “resplendent jeweled egg” while “radiating brilliant hues on father mountain and mother lake,” at which time “in the sky there appeared brilliant lights, melodious sounds in space, and many other wonderful occurrences,” circa 16,000 BC.
The Maya, the pre-Incans, the Sumerians, and so many others, all express the same account in diverse symbolic languages—their “gods” came from the stars, bringing advanced knowledge and the gift of civilization. These cultures were greatly separated both geographically and chronologically, yet their creation stories are strikingly similar and, in many cases, virtually identical. Who were these “gods”? From where did they come?
Explore answers to these questions and discover extraordinary knowledge. A truly incomparable book for anyone interested in greatly expanding their knowledge and personal power, and especially fascinating for anyone interested in the realities behind the ubiquitous legends of antediluvian civilizations and ancient extraterrestrial influences. A Kindle Unlimited Book, e-reader page count 284 (estimated, actual count varies with the reading device used). For more information, please see the ‘Look Inside’ feature on the book’s Amazon page. WE HELP MOMS RULE

About WE HELP MOMS RULE

Description

Product description

Our current era of globalization, war, and socioeconomic unrest has revealed public health as a worldwide concern and a major frontier for social justice with maternal and child health at its epicenter. Yet, there has been a relative scarcity of training resources specifically dedicated to this crucial area. “Maternal and Child Health: Global Challenges, Programs, and Policies” addresses this gap in current knowledge by analyzing the range of socioeconomic and environmental factors, health care disparities, politics, policies, and cultural practices that impact the health and safety of mothers, as well as the well-being and optimum development of their children.

Individual sections focus on unequal distribution of the world’s resources, politics and power, specific disease concerns, programs, policies and emerging concerns with a focus on what is currently being done, and what needs to be done to improve the health status of women, children, and adolescents. The book’s contributors are some of the world’s most respected experts, carefully selected to represent different global geographic regions and diverse professional disciplines related to maternal and child health from both academic and field practice perspectives.

Among the topics in this authoritative volume: The impact of war, globalization, gender inequity, and harmful traditional practices (e.g., female genital mutilation). Specific health concerns, including tuberculosis, malaria, HIV, and malnutrition. Child and adolescent health issues, from abuse and neglect to children in difficult circumstances. Pregnancy-related issues: safety, abortion and post-abortion care, teen pregnancy, and more. Strategies for planning, developing, and maintaining maternal and child health systems in developing countries. The status of global initiatives, such as Integrated Management of Childhood Illnesses and the Millennium Development Goals. The status of evidence-based maternal and child health in the developing world.

With such a wealth of information on both practical and conceptual levels, “Maternal and Child Health: Global Challenges, Programs, and Policies” is as relevant to students and researchers in the field as it is to policy makers and those working for global health and development organizations. It also makes an excellent stand-alone text for courses in global health in general and global maternal and child health in particular.

Confidence, Concentration and Your Fear Within. An Introductory Guide to Overcoming Fear by: M.A. Hallock

About Confidence, Concentration and Your Fear Within. An Introductory Guide to Overcoming Fear by: M.A. Hallock

My name is Matthew A. Hallock; you can call me matt.
I have spent much of my life on the edge in many ways. It may even take numerous books to paint a picture of the many valuable lessons I have learned thus far in my life.
I was raised in Northern Michigan, a land you could classify as fire and ice ;). My highschool mascot was that of a scandinavian guy. He wasn’t a Viking or anything, just a red Scandinavian guy.
This should give you an idea of aNorthern Michigan winter. Lol Ok, I’ll get to the point now.
“Slow is smooth, and smooth is fast”-US Navy Seals
I have had so many hobbies in my life I couldn’t possibly name them all here. But, ill give a few.
At an early age my life revolved around sports and competition.
My brothers and I were all seemingly like minded in everything. And since we lived 10 miles away from our nearest neighbor and coming from a poor family we had plenty of time to build coheiison and do wreckless things in the name of fun.
We started out dreaming of playing in the NBA and would often practice anywhere from 2-6 hrs per day. It started out as an obsession.
We became 3 boys dreaming of attending at least one NBA game before we died. Lol We thought 100$ was more money than we could ever earn.
We all kept our passion for basketball, but our new passion was in becoming Navy Seals.
Upon learning how difficult the training was we jumped at the idea to find the limits of our own ability. We would begin jogging and swimming for hours at a time. And once, we took it further by jumping in a river 2 miles from home and in freezing temeratures we wanted to see if we could make it home without help and an ambulance. We made it, barely and now I both cringe and chuckle at the memory.
A year or so later things took a hard right turn.
My father was killed in Florida and my uncle committed suicide at our home.
However, A few hours before I was the last to see him alive. I was to bring him a dinner plate of fried chicken on my mothers orders.
His lasts words to me were of pure hatred. I could feel the pain in his eyes staring at me. The words were so angry and diverse I failed to completely understand it.
I eventually forgave him and knew that the words were coming from a place of pain and fear.
I regret not trying harder to talk more with him. But, its all ancient history.

It was a little after this I began to work labor jobs on the side to buy a punching bag and boxing equipment. I wanted to start learning to be a warrior and I trained day & night like a man possessed.
I eventually began training in a real gym and i fell in love almost right away.
Over the years I have fought so many times on the street and in the cage, i can’t for the life of me remember what my fight record is. Honestly, i realized much later my only goals were to show my dominance over another person and mask my pain and fear.
My life has changed in many way since then and now i wish to help others find love, joy, faith and mental strength.
I am a firm believer in love and its raw strength. I believe love is the ONLY answer and hope for the human race (i hope that’s not to cheesy for you).
If you have any questions whatsoever, feel free to emIl me at mhallock88@gmail.com or my facebook blog “The Fearless Mind.”

Sincerely,
Matt

I have grown fond of cooking since childhood and now I work in a restaurant as a cook. In each recipe, I invest a part of my soul. I can call my work a real art. Most of the invented recipes I put in different books with detailed descriptions. I represent the kitchen, the basis of which is the love of good food, to the food that gathers people close to the Sunday table, the food that makes you languish in anticipation of the pie from the oven, the food that remains in your memory for a long time.

Author Bio:
Lisa Orban was born in Galesburg, IL a long time ago on a hot summer day. Due to various shenanigans by the adults in her life, her time in Galesburg was short and the family moved to Quincy, IL where they settled down for a good long stay.

Things were rolling along for a while inside the confines of Quincy, and Lisa rolled with them. There were several divorces, marriages, different schools, friends lost & gained, and many, many moves throughout all this activity. Until, quite unexpectedly, Lisa found herself in foster care at 16, much to her surprise.

Upon turning 18, Lisa ran away as fast as she could to Phoenix, AZ where she lived for 3 years. Got married, had a two sons, made many mistakes, and then eventually, ran for her life back to Quincy, where she still lives to this day.

Lisa went to college, earned an Associates in Psychology, raised her kids, got married, and divorced, several times, bought a house and eventually settled down to live the life she wanted, as the ringleader in a madhouse of anarchy. She now writes books, takes in human strays in need of help, travels, and pretty much does whatever she wants, and is quite happy about it.

She became an author in 2015 with her first book, It’ll Feel Better when it Quits Hurting, and hasn’t stopped since. If you’d like to learn more about Lisa’s misadventures in living, visit her website, The Talking Book with Lisa Orban at http://pandra411.wixsite.com/lisaorban

Jay Michael Wright II is a writer and a full-time nerd. If he’s not off playing Dungeons & Dragons, he’s anxiously awaiting the next Star Wars movie. Dark fantasy and horror were a natural fit for him as the first movie he ever went to was The Exorcist (his mother was pregnant with him, but it still counts). Several of his short stories have won awards, and he placed 2nd in a contest which would have won him a Vincent Price Award. He still loses sleep over not winning that one, but he vowes to take another shot at it (who doesn’t love Vincent Price?). He is currently living with the love of his life and their three feline children who continue to bat at his computer mouse despite his best efforts to make them stop.

Hold Back the Wind

About Hold Back the Wind

FREE eBook From April 25 – 26, 2018

Without a medical miracle, Orlando Asala will die.

Pediatrician Vickie Marsh is determined to do everything in her power to save the five-year-old’s life before he is released from the hospital and sent back to the migrant camp where his parents are living in squalor. With kidney cancer, his fate will be sealed before he’s wheeled out the hospital door. Orlando’s only hope is an experimental treatment developed by Doctor Zachary Scott.

One problem, Zack no longer works at the hospital, having quit his practice under bitter circumstances, and now teaches paragliding lessons. The only way Vickie can reach him is to sign up for a series of classes. While Vickie can certainly use a hobby to enliven her work-filled life, she has been warned that Zack has an axe to grind with the hospital and might not be willing to cooperate with her. Vickie sees this as a challenge, not an impediment, and forges ahead with a plan to convince the reluctant doctor to share his formula with her.

I, Richard Plantagenet, An Epic of Richard III Complete Edition by J.P. Reedman

About I, Richard Plantagenet, An Epic of Richard III Complete Edition by J.P. Reedman

Richard III’s story, told in first person from his point of view, using, where possible, Richard’s actual words (in modern English.)
From the battle of Barnet when Richard is only 18 through his marriage to Anne Neville, to unexpected kingship, betrayal by his ‘friend’ Buckingham…and the mystery of the vanished princes. Then it is on through the pain of the loss of his only legitimate son Edward, to the final deadly conflict on Bosworth Field against Henry Tudor.
A different fictional look at England’s most loved–and most hated–King.. Not a wooden saint, nor yet Shakespeare’s hunchbacked fiend, a flesh and blood, fallible man: King’s brother, royal duke, scoliosis sufferer, warrior, husband, father.
Called ‘a new Ricardian classic.’
Approximately 250,000 words.
Contains what is probably the most up to date fictional account of Richard’s last moments at Bosworth, based on the archaeology and forensics.

Tainted Blood: Face Your Demons (Tainted Blood Series – Book 1 – A Young Adult Horror Novella) by Nina Hobson

About Tainted Blood: Face Your Demons (Tainted Blood Series – Book 1 – A Young Adult Horror Novella) by Nina Hobson

“Have you seen anyone around?”
“That’s me,” stated Ron with no outward expression.
“What?” Jennifer’s sure she hadn’t heard him right.
“That’s me…ummm, he’s me. I can’t explain it Jennifer but ever since last night, I’ve felt funny, like something in me is missing. I think it’s…I’m following us.”

*****************************************************************************
Ron Davis’s statement was enough to scare the crap out of Jennifer Holden, his best friend, because she’d been seeing things too — especially in the back in the back room off the kitchen. The one her parents had forbidden Jennifer and her little brother to enter…which was okay by her since she’d no intention of stepping one foot in there.

That is until her terminally ill cousin takes up residence in it setting in motion a horrific turn of events; putting her and the entire town in mortal danger.

“Tainted Blood: Face Your Demons” is book one in a four book series of high school to adult, paranormal horror novellas. Action packed, suspenseful, thrilling yet sensitive, this first installment brings beings from two opposing dimensions together under one roof.

Imagine the specter from your worst nightmare adopting and trying to raise two sweet, young teens; trying to keep them safe while something dark and dangerous stalks and ravages the natives of Cleveland and you’ll have all you need to read this new coming-of-age horror classic.

Click “buy” to drop in on this unnatural family now.

**************************************

Just a note to my Dear Readers:

This is book one of a four book series. I have written each COMPLETE book (these books have beginnings, middles and endings and DO NOT contain cliffhangers) to be read as a standalone story – if you choose to do so – however, each following book will build upon its predecessor. With that being said, please be aware that as the books progress, (they span over many years in my characters’ lives), I may occasionally allude to a person, circumstance or event that has taken place in one of the previous books.

As with all my stories from the flash fiction, to the novels and all those in between – I aim to include you in my characters’ lives, not exclude.

Need more information or just wanna talk to me personally about your views on horror, dark fantasy and/or post-apocalyptic/dystopian fiction? Then, shoot me an email at info@ninahobsonbooks.com or ninahobsonbooks@gmail.com.

P.S. This book is discounted from $2.99 to $0.99 until further notice.

Thank you and enjoy.
Nina Hobson

Author Bio:
Homeless mother of four and grandmother of five, (I’d probably have more but it seems my youngest son is dragging his feet), I have been a computer instructor, online book proofreader/editor, pre-k teacher’s assistant and a nursing school project assistant. Currently, I live in Ohio and am a dog person through and through but as yet have no dogs but when I get them it will be four senior shelter ones.

My interests vary and are numerous such as reading cozy mysteries, cooking & baking and watching horror movies (Jason Vorhees is my all time favorite psycho killer). Not to mention, I have a bucket list a mile long, however, I can now scratch being a self-published author of horror/fantasy/dystopian fiction off of it.

I write what I refer to as horror’s softer side. It’s not too graphic, scary or intense for I have a deep love of monsters that show compassion…even though they’ll still rip your guts out and feed on them if the occasion calls for it. Classic horror is a satisfying indulgence but it doesn’t have to always be horrific to be enjoyable. For instance, zombies no longer simply lumber about, they can now flat-out run (Dawn of the Dead (2004)), hold down jobs (iZombie), lead a group of their own (Land of the Dead) and even cooperate with humans to an extent (Z Nation).

I imagine monsters of all sorts hang onto a bit of their humanity – even if they don’t wear it on their sleeves. Monsters that retain some of their human characteristics and fiction that borders on the fringe of societal norms (such as my Dark & Demented Anthology Collection – that may touch on “delicate” matters) may not be everyone’s cup of tea. In fact, I dare say we that do enjoy it are on the fringe of the horror society. And that’s okay because I know there are others out there besides myself out that share these views so to those…welcome my sisters and brothers to fiction our way.

At present I have three different series: Tainted Blood, Lord Love a Zombie: Dead Inside: Welcome (LLAZDIW) and The Ghoul Who Loved Me (TGWLM). TGWLM is especially close to my heart because it features all of my grandchildren as minor characters and while writing this novella, I had to keep starting over as new grandkids were born at different times during. I based their characters on how I figured they would be as teenagers. I believe I am spot on but only time will tell.

In addition, I’m also the author of two separate sets of Dark & Demented anthologies. You can check out all my books here and please leave a comment (or a review) on Amazon or any of the other book-selling platforms if you’re feeling particularly generous.
