Richard Steinitz (b.1947) was born in New York City. After four years at S.U.N.Y. Buffalo, he moved to Israel in 1968, where he has lived since then with his wife, Naomi.
They have two children and two grandchildren. He is the author of three published novels: “The Voyage of the Stingray”, “Murder Over the Border” and “Kaplan’s Quest”.When not writing books, he works as a translator (Hebrew to English) and editor for local writers whose native language is not English.

“The Voyage of the Stingray” was born out of his love of ships and the sea, which has been with him since about the age of ten! The book is the product of his imagination and some four years of writing. When pushed to describe it in one sentence, he says: ‘It is a cross between The Hunt for Red October and the Horatio Hornblower books by CS Forester.’

A one-month stint at a small army outpost near the triangle border (Israel-Jordan-Syria) triggered something, which eventually led to his first novel – “Murder Over the Border” – which took some seven years to write. “MOB” is a classic detective novel, based in the Middle East and steeped in the Oslo Peace Process.

Having enjoyed the writing process, he tried his hand at 1st person narrative. This became his second novel, “Kaplan’s Quest”, which involves a genealogical search for a family member who disappeared during the holocaust.

I saw two statistics once which said, “of 3,200 children’s books published in 2013, just 93 were about African-Americans” and that same year “only 8% of children’s books were written by or about people of color.” I see this as a major challenge to which I have two options, complain in silence or take action. I choose the latter.
One of my greatest joys in life is being Sebastian and Maverick’s daddy who, at the time of this writing are 3 years and 5 months old respectively. My wife and I love books and since they were born, we’ve shared that love with them. In my opinion, it is important for children to see characters in books that look like themselves…in positive and empowering ways. There aren’t many things more beautiful than a confident child! And even though a lot of boys are ‘momma’s boys’ there isn’t a more powerful thing to see than when a father develops a relationship with his son(s). My prayer is that one day, when someone asks Sebastian and Maverick who they admire, “My Dad” is included in the list. I’d imagine most men with children, but especially with sons, would want the same thing.

In the early 90’s the plight of the Sudanese Dinkas’ came to my attention and I became financially involved. It was not uncommon to read of wholesale murder, slavery and other atrocities in the weekly updates. When our nest emptied in 2005, a particularly heartbreaking news story arrived. To keep my mind active, and as an outlet for my emotion, I borrowed a first sentence that my youngest son had written during an assignment and started to write. That sentence has changed many, many times since that day — as has most of the book.

Just as the heroes in Sudan, dead and living, (even those bombarded today in the Nuba Mountains) make conscious sacrifices for the lives of their loved ones or strangers, I wanted “Javen’s” characters to communicate these same sacrifices, pain, joy and growth to Young Adult Fantasy readers, like a Fantasy Fable. This is not an allegory or dark fantasy. A lighter hand was used, but occasionally, the depravities occurring in Sudan speak.

Currently working as a deputy sheriff for the Haywood County North Carolina Sheriff’s Office. Thirty year law enforcement officer and firefighter. Previously worked for the Greenville Police Department and Pitt County Sheriff’s Office which are located in Pitt County North Carolina. Specialized in child abuse investigations and was assigned to major crimes investigations for fourteen years. Married with three biological and two step children. Hello I am Marty Myers

I have worked all my life trying many different jobs. I have been a cook at a dozen different restaurants, a restaurant manager at two different chains, an appliance delivery man, a floral delivery man, a janitor, a factory worker in a half dozen different companies, a farmhand, a tour guide and a contractor. So I have a wide range of experience to drawl my ideas and characters off of.

I have always been an avid reader since a very early age. My favorite thing to do when I was young was to curl up with a good book and let it carry me off to a world of adventure and I still enjoy reading books to take just such a journey today just as much as I did back then. I especially enjoy works of science fiction and fantasy although I do occasionally read horror as well. For years I considered trying my hand at writing a book. After months of writing, I began the process of editing and then learning all the other steps needed to publish a book. Thank goodness it isn’t as hard as it used to be.

In addition to reading my other hobbies and interests include gaming, hiking, photography, fishing, gardening and finding out what goes bump in the night. That’s right I have been interested in ghosts and the paranormal since I was a kid growing up on my grandfathers old Ohio farm. I spent my youth out in the countryside wandering around exploring. Hearing old family ghost stories around campfires. My mother is a fine storyteller who grew up near the Hornet Spook Light in Missouri and spent many nights watching the mysterious light winking up and down its dark country road. I heard tales of ghostly cars offering hitchhikers rides, phantom footsteps eternally circling old haunted graveyards and spectral ladies floating across old country roads only to be struck by cars late at night. These and many other stories kindled my interest in ghosts

Nowadays I am out there trying to find out what is really going on. I was an independent investigator for several years running my own site called Lost and Found Ohio and then I was brought on with Central Ohio Ghost Squad as a paranormal investigator and case manager, later I transitioned to the United Paranormal Project which I am still a founding member of.

Over the last several years I have also grown to love walking and photographing cemeteries for their historical significance as well as their beauty and tranquility. There is a lot of interesting symbolism and artistry carved into those tombstones and each cemetery has dozens of tales to tell us if you just slow down really look for them.

Lastly, I love seeing and exploring places, finding old forgotten places and capturing some of their essence in photographs before they are torn down and gone forever. Historical places and those with folklore associated with them or a haunting or two are my favorite locations to look for as they combine three or four of my interest together. I love the character of many of the old architectural styles that are no longer being used.
