Thus, while faith is for today, and hope is for the future, the book reveals that your today’s faith will bring your future happiness and divine blessings. This is that whispering hope which is full of heavenly and blessed assurances. There is God who knows all our needs and people that feel that he tarries to come to relieve them from their sins and problems, this book encourages them to still hope in God’s time, which is the best. When the tempest strikes, wait; it’ll be gone. There’ll be sunshine after rain. You’re not alone! Even if you go through deep waters, I will be with you, when you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown and when you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burnt up; the flame will not consume you (Isaiah 43:2 NLT), God is with you and therefore you should fear no evil!

The Title:
The man of God, Nwaiwu F.E.C., derived the title of the book from Septimus Winner’s hymn, “Whispering Hope”. Septimus Winner (1827-1902) was one of the famous American hymn writers of the 19th century and was a great achiever whose hymnal compositions and creativity were mostly attributed to Alice Hawthorne, one of his several pseudonyms. He was known as a man who used songs to transform souls. In his artistic endeavour, he penned “Whispering Hope” a song which is in our Christian hymnal book to reinvigorate the faith of fainting Christians in the whole world. In his first stanza of the hymn, Winner has this to offer:
Soft as the voice of an angel,
Breathing a lesson unheard,
Hope with a gentle persuasion
Whispers her comforting word:
Wait till the darkness is over,
Wait till the tempest is done,
Hope for the sunshine tomorrow,
After the shower is gone.
Refrain
Whispering hope, oh how welcome thy voice,
Making my heart in its sorrow rejoice.
The man of God, Pastor Nwaiwu was inspired by the very hymn of Winner and then compiled holistically his homiletics to join Winner in redeeming and refreshing the souls created in God’s image. Though the author has gone a long way in extrapolating and explicating the word of God more than Winner but both of them share a parallel ideology on hope as an anchor of the soul. This is because impatience has viciously disparaged the souls of many Christians and skeptics.

Experience shows that at a time of excruciating pains and hard times, some fainting souls tend to give up their hope in Christ. The man of God rhetorically asks: Will you be faithful at a time of troubles?”— (P.…). Many a Christian faces some challenges as an outcome of their belief system. One cardinal reason why some professing Christians will be victorious from their trials while others will not is because— (a) the Christians who always anticipate trials as a must in their lives will surely find a consoling succor in God. Such Christians holistically believe that even if trials come along with death, nothing can cast off their faith in Christ. Thus, they are determined to die along with their faith with hope for eternity. (b) The believers who always anticipate everything good from God will not survive when trials come. This is because they do not have the mind to endure difficult situations. They are called Christian sycophants because they praise God when things are auguring them well but curse God when they are under the agony of pains and sorrows which may claim their lives.
Faith and hope which are intertwining create some immeasurable impacts on the righteous. The followings, however, may be said about what the two theological concepts, faith and hope, produce in a man.

The man of faith is ever hopeful and is ready to die in what he believes in. We call such a man that willingly accepts being stoned or put to death for adhering openly to his religious belief a martyr. Such a man accepts to die because he has hope like Stephen, the first Christian martyr.

Faith and hope help to sustain man to offer regular praises especially at a perilous time. They regenerate souls and offer blissful assurances of the new paradise and a crown of life that will be given to the faithful.

They strengthen men to have focus for the things of heaven and assure them that Christ is the only hope for the whole nation. Faith and hope make man to be very conscious of himself, that the moment he compromises his faith is the moment his hope is crushingly dashed to pieces.
They help man to devote his time to prayer, calling his God not to lead him into temptation but deliver him from all evil. With such an earnest prayer, the faithful man will get a desired result from God. Job says: “I know my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God” (Job 19:25-26). That was his faith working even at the time of his excruciating agony of life. He believed in God. Apart from the scriptures, if there are well written documents that could help to instill hope and boost the faith of believers, this Pastor Nwaiwu’s compilation of homiletics is one of them.

The Whispering Hope: A Liturgic Compendium of Sermons on Pulpit is a collection of inspiring messages, the man of God, Pastor F.E.C. Nwaiwu, has preached. They represent his heart cry, his desires, and his visions for not only his congregation, but the body of Christ. He may have addressed a particular congregation, but the messages are global. The standard of God to a particular congregation today is typical but also universal. When Pastor Nwaiwu calls this collection a whispering hope, he means that hope in God for solution to various shades of problem— whether spiritual, social, economic or whatever, the hope in Christ may be not shouting, crying to be heard. But hope is in Christ; so faith in Him is the cure for all such problems. And faith in Christ transforms, empowers, regenerates, and prepares the Christians for eternal life in God’s kingdom.
These down-to-earth, simply delivered messages, messages devoid of pretentions, can transform a hardened sinner, reinvigorate a fainting Christian and appeal to a cynic. I join the man of God in appealing to all to listen to these messages with an open heart so they can receive them with their ears and store them in their hearts so they can be benefitted by the words that are life and spirit.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

The author, F.E.C. Nwaiwu was born to the family of Rev. S.A.N.D. Nwaiwu from Umuezu Egbeke Etche Rivers State of Nigeria. He bagged his Master’s Degree in Applied English Linguistics in the year 2014 from University of Calabar. At his tender age, he received a calling from God to serve as a minister. When he was an undergraduate student between 2002-2006 at Rivers State College of Education, Rumuolumeni Port Harcourt, he came back to his home town for one “Women’s Area Council Meeting” organized by Apostolic Christian Faith Mission. It was there that God declared his good will to him. A prophetess dragged him out before the public and told him that he will be a minister of God. A year later, a group of Baptist’s evangelists who came from Lagos to plant a church in his home town likewise prophesied same to him before his parents and siblings as they visited him in his house. This divine calling continued to be heard through numerous prophets until Pastor F.E.C. Nwaiwu traveled on the weekend’s time from his school to visit one of his aunts named Janet who lived at Mkpuolu called One Man’s Village in Port Harcourt. He stayed there with her and her only son called Ugochukwu. On Sunday, he went to a church with a magnificent structure tiled all over the altar. As he entered the church called “Church of God Mission,” one of the ushers led him straight to the altar. He was reluctant to follow him until the usher asked him if he is one of their pastors and he said no. Then the usher gave him a place to sit. It was then F.C. Nwaiwu began to think about his calling.

The prophetic injunction continued till F.E.C. Nwaiwu became seriously sick. He could not walk normally because of stomach problem. This was when he was serving as a corps member at Ukwa East Local Government of Abia State. He took permission from his Area Inspector (A.I) and then came back to his home town. His parents took him to a nearby clinic at Amala in Ngor Okpala Imo State. He did not know that his parents had in mind of going to a clinic to perform surgical operation on him having sensed the problem he was passing through. They brought everything necessary in case of what might happen. In the clinic the doctor used his stethoscope on him. He diagnosed appendix as the cause of his illness and then asked his parents to come back the following day for the surgical operation. Pastor F.E.C. Nwaiwu’s heart was embittered. He always be afraid of needle touching his body talk of using knife on him. So he became afraid of the operation. When he returned from the clinic it was around 8:00 P.M. He was then taken to his room. When there was no body around him he prayed in a bitter heart and asked God if he is the one calling him for the ministerial service let him take away the affliction of appendix from him. Thereafter he slept off. As F.E.C. Nwaiwu was sleeping, God sent his two angels in white robes to perform the operation on him. It was when he felt something being removed from him that he woke up. He saw two Angels of God in their white apparels as they hissed away. It was at that moment that Pastor F.E.C. Nwaiwu received healing from God. As he woke up he did not see any blood. God performed it and Pastor F.E.C. Nwaiwu realized the God’s loving power on him. Though after this miracle, F.E.C. Nwaiwu did not begin the ministerial duty at once. He prayed that God should help him finish his M.A’s Program at University of Calabar. One night he prayed committing the calling to the hands of God, God revealed to him in a dream where he was with four other young persons walking on terrible thorns. It was very painful until a man came and brought them out. The man warned them that if they refuse to take up their cross and follow Jesus, that is how they will suffer in life. When the said man of God woke up, he wept and decided to take the glorious mantle to proclaiming Jesus.

In the year 2013, F.E.C. Nwaiwu was posted to Umuozoche Igbodo in Etche where he began his pastoral work with Apostolic Christian Faith Mission. His first sermon he delivered to them was titled “GOD HAS NOT FORGOTTEN YOU.” When he reported to his station, his members rejected him with two reasons (1) he was young and (2) he may not like to live with them, he may decide to be coming from town. When the man of God heard this he called them and asked them to meet Bishop L.O. Chioma so that he can transfer him and bring another pastor who will live with them. It was two months later when his members had seen God’s miraculous power in him that they began to show remorse over what they did. “Nearly, we would have missed a God’s sent servant” they yelled. After two years of ministerial service, he planned to go on transfer to another place. As he was having fasting and praying with his church members one day, the Spirit of God divulged his plan to his members and his members went on fasting and prayers for God to retain their pastor. Then pastor Nwaiwu had no alternative than to stay pending when God would tell him to go to another place.

Pastor F.E.C. Nwaiwu’s homilies are so inspiring and powerful. One midnight when he was sleeping, a voice whispered to him to gather all his sermons and publish them for people to read and repent. The man of God could not do anything than to commit it to the hands of the Great Numen. By the time he wanted to publish his sermons, he became financially incapacitated to publish them.

The said man of God is a Spirit-filled-gifted preacher and author. He wrote his first play titled: “The Weeping Voice: A Basket of Injustice” when he saw in his college how lecturers extorted money from their students. He felt bad about the injustice and was inclined to come up with such a drama piece.
