Hello! Today I want to tell you about myself. My name is Wanda Carter, I was born in a town called Rockford, Illinois. I like cooking and I absolutely in love with culinary. I enjoy sharing my recipes which I write in my cooking book.
Of course, I wasn’t born with pans in my hands. My big love for culinary wasn’t born right away. I will start with my family, I have a younger brother and a sister. Every summer our parents would send us to spend time with grandma and grandpa, who lived in Davy, Florida. Their house was very close to the ocean, and we spend every day on the beach, swimming in the gentle waters of Atlantic Ocean.
When my siblings and I came for supper, there was always something special made. Grandma loved cooking, and grandpa loved catching fish. Very often he caught an interesting fish, or even catch a whole bunch of shrimp, that’s why we always had very diverse dishes. Every summer, as I got older, my interest grew towards my grandmas fabulous cooking and how she managed to make them with such little variety of groceries from the local store and the fish that grandpa catches.
After this, I agreed to spend more time with my grandma and learned how to cook. When I was 14 years old, my grandma showed me her huge, leather book of recipes. There were over 1000 recipes! Grandma said that this book was passed on to her by her mother, and grandma continues to write recipes in it. After that, I started to cook along side of my grandma in the kitchen, and I loved it!
It was the turning point in my life, not only did I start loving food but also making it. At the end of the summer, we arrived back home, and I was always asking mom to make dinner by myself. At first, she was surprised however soon, she started to enjoy that I made her life easier and she was very grateful.
After I had finished school, I went to study as a chef. I chose the profession tied to my passion. I enjoyed learning, and all the professors thought I was great. Even in the dorm rooms, my friends would ask me to cook something interning for them, and I always created a new recipe.
After I had finished college, I was employed at a very famous restaurant. One day my parents called me to tell me that my grandma died. I was very sorrowful, I very much loved my grandma. She was the one showed gave me the love of cooking. Grandma left behind her recipe book for me, which I, to this day keep safe and consider it as a family heirloom. When I got her book, I wanted to share my recipes with everyone who loves cooking delicious dishes.
When a new recipe comes to my head, first, I make it, and then I let all my friends and family taste it. If they like it, then I write it down in my book. I want to share my passion for cooking with every person in the whole world, just as my grandma once shared it with me.

Bottle and Glass, edited by award-winning novelist Helen Humphreys, is Morgan Wade’s second novel. It has been adapted into an immersive, site-specific play that sold out in Autumn 2016 and will run again for three weeks in the spring of 2018.
