They hope their children to fill in the vacuum which the death of their husbands has created. Most times, their hopes are shattered. Death takes away their beloved children from them. Such widows become lonely and walk in the bliss of solitude and desolation.

Some widows at times find solace in keeping company with people of good conscience. Such fellows become their helpers. They provide for them whatever may be their needs. Such fellows make clothes for them, share good things to them even at a Christmas season; but when the joy and happiness of widows seem to have returned, death slain such fellows by breaking the heart of widows again. It is now that we discover that once a woman is a widow death will always be trying to frustrate her life. We thank God that throughout the Scriptures, we have not seen where a widow is disappointed by God. Though widows face trials and problems and yet God shows them his loving kindness which validates the claim that God is a husband to widows (Isaiah 54:5).

From the samples of the widows under discourse, we see that death reduces them to poverty and they are always prone to dangers of unpaid debts which are owed by their late husbands. Even when a woman is rich, at the moment death declares her widow; the blow usually brings her down from the apex of her affluence because all the family responsibilities are now on her head.
There had never been a widow that has never experienced intense anguish and sorrows unless the women that murder their husbands in order to flirt and enjoy the pleasure of this world. Such women feel good at the death of their husbands. They tend to re-marry even within the year their late husbands are committed to the mother earth. Any widow who can never bear the burden of widowhood is free to re-marry. This is a privilege Paul gives to widows so that they can produce children and have their own homes so that enemy would not have anything to say against them. The advice is given so that young widows will not flirt around and the love of the pleasures of the world may not overpower their devotion to Christ.
From all indications, our sampled widows maintain the principles of widowhood which are characterized by being faithful, trusting in God for sustenance, having faith in God and having time for fasting and prayers. None of the Christian widows derail from faith even after the death of their husbands. Each time death or problems besiege them, we see God delivering them from their vicious predicaments. This is because since they do not have any other person but God Satan could not prevail against them.
Naomi feels the heavy hands of death in her life, her daughter-in-law stands by her in faith and God turns her misery to joy. Ruth becomes a mother of Obed who then revamps the family name of Elimelech. The woman of Nain weeps like all is gone. But the moment Christ comes to the city and sees her weeping; his heart overflows with compassion on her. The widow’s son is revived to life. The misery of the woman is turned to joy. The widows of Joppa when they cried for the death of Dorcas who made them clothes and coats, their joy is also returned to them. We now advise every widow to take courage and believe in God, and he will never abandon them. He has promised that you will no longer live in shame … and will no longer remember the shame of your youth and the sorrows of your widowhood. For your Creator will be your husband” — Isaiah 54:4-5 NLT.

Echoes of the widows
Echoes of the Widows is a study book that explores Scriptures thoroughly to place grieving widows to the comforting hands of God. It unveils the anguish which widows pass through after the death of their husbands. The book is of three parts. Part one deals with the terrible agony of widowhood of Naomi and God’s benevolent mercy and providence. Part two expresses the pains and sufferings widows are subjected to under the cyclic web of their children’s death, and how the love of God prevails over their unspeakable misery. Part three uncovers the oracle of prophet Habakkuk over the wickedness of Judah and how people of faith prevail.
The penman, F. E.C. Nwaiwu places himself in the shoes of widows and feels with them the sorrows they pass through. When the widow of a prophet runs to Elisha for help as to clear the debts her late husband owed, we see how God is at the centre of the widow’s situation. The widow was delivered from such a vicious creditor who could not let go the debts the poor prophet owed him.

Thank God that in a Christian society, widows are not left behind. Elijah, Elisha, Dorcas and the apostles prove this point. Dorcas did not leave the widows to die in cold and starvation. She adopted a means to help them cope with the agony of widowhood. But Dorcas died, those widows she helped echo out how miserable they are because the woman that sustains them is no more. As the widows echo their sorrows over the death of their food-and-clothes-provider, God listens to them and Peter is able to raise her to life. Also when some members in the church try to depict how unfriendly the world is to widows, the apostles show them that in Christ there is no discrimination. The Grecian widows are neglected in the daily distributions of food, an idea that suggests how wicked some people are in the house of God. The Grecian widows could no longer bear the injustice and so they begin to murmur over the unfair attitudes. Such murmurings become an echo which the apostles heard and device a possible means to make peace for the interests of the widows and for the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In many traditional African countries, a widow is seen as the first accused as soon as her husband passes on. For her to exonerate herself, she is sometimes forced to drink the bath water of the dead husband, shave her hair, walk on bare foot and carry the dead body of the late husband until sacrifices are performed to prove her innocence. After the burial of he r husband, she is forced to wear rag or sackcloth and walk barefoot for at least one year to mourn her late husband. During this time, she is not supposed to mingle or interact with other women. After this mourning period, she is forced to marry any man in the family whether she likes it or not. In most cases in Africa, she loses every property of the husband and remains wretched and frustrated all her life except she has grown-up children to take care of her.
Widowhood is a miserable state in many parts of the world. This is mostly because of the subjugating and domineering patriarchate of male controlled society that sees women as second class citizens or commodities which men purchase in marriage by the payment of dowry. This is the worst humiliating error that every right thinking person and government should fight to stop and totally eliminate from human society.

This book Echoes of the Widows is meant to draw attention to the plight, misery and pain of many women globally who lost their husbands to death are passing through even in this twenty first century. Drawing from the lessons in the book of Ruth and Habakkuk in the Bible, the author shows the grief experienced by the three widows found in the book of Ruth, Naomi, Ruth and Orpah. He shows that these women lost their husbands and were found in the state of helplessness and hopelessness forcing one of them to return to her parents. She once showed her “alternative-school” teacher a poem titled: “That’s Life,” which she penned at 14. He was so impressed with the piece; he had it faxed to every school in the city.
At 16, Nicole was uprooted from her small town and moved to Boca Raton, where she felt displaced and started to deal with depression. Hereditarily, mental illness and substance abuse ran rampant in her family tree, and by 20 she experimented with a plethora of chemical substances. By 23, she became addicted to shooting heroin, and was engaged to her co-conspirator and partner-in-crime. She attended an art school for photo journalism, but withdrew half-way through the year, due to a devastating addiction to injecting various drugs.
Addictarium was written while she spent two years in a therapeutic community for seriously addicted, and mentally ill, patrons. The book outlines many of the experiences she went through in the second phase of treatment, which she dubbed “the village,” because of its extreme and eccentric melting pot of personalities.
During her tenure at Daytop, Nicole separated with her fiancé, and while in her stay at the recovery program in Queens New York, met her current fiancé, who was initially her substance abuse counselor. The book is also highly reflective of their relationship and its roots. Nicole credits the Latin, Brooklyn-bred counselor, 18 years her senior, with “saving her from herself.”
Nicole can now be found residing in the Poughkeepsie area with her fiancé, Miguel. Ok, firstly, I have a couple of confessions to make. The first is that I used to watch Star Wars every single holiday during high school and college (Yep, every single episode). The second is the first time I played Pokemon, I stayed up until 3 am trying to level up my Charmander (I’m a big fan of fire-type). The third is that I love Lord of the Rings and sometimes I dream about being an elf but if I can’t, I’ll settle for being one of the Dunedain. And last and certainly not least, yes, I haven’t watched a single episode of Game of Thrones (I hear it’s a damn cool series!) nor read any of the Harry Potter books. Ok, before you judge me on those ones, just hear me out. The reason I haven’t, is because I’m an author and as an author, I want to independently conceive super cool ideas and characters that my super fans will love and remember. Watching Lord of the Rings was an exception though (come on, you have to admit that it was a pretty cool exception hey!). Truly, I was never the same after, “Return of the King”. But seriously, that’s why I’ve made the sacrifice. Still, I have a huge amount of respect for J.K. Rowling and George R.R. Martin for their incredible achievements. My fervent wish is to follow in their footsteps with a series I’ve written called, “Outcast of the Dark Knight”. I started writing Outcast in the year 2000. Back then, I never knew anything about publishing (I still don’t know much about publishing lol!) but I knew I loved writing from a very early age and I had this story bubbling within and I just had to get it out there. Today, with the third book on its way, I’m proud to say the journey has just begun! For me, the greatest honor I can receive is my fans enjoying reading my books. That makes me happy and it makes it all worth it!
