British author Geraldine Evans’s dream for years was to be a published novelist, a dream she achieved in 1991, after many abandoned novels, six completed novels and six years of rejections. I live on a farm in Lancashire, England with my husband, four children, one dog and one cat. Lord and Master marked my first foray into writing romantic fiction and, like its lead character Luna Gregory, I make my living as a personal assistant.

My inspiration for writing Lord and Master was a best-selling romance novel I read a few years ago that left me feeling…dissatisfied. Dissatisfied by the heroine, whose friends, career and personal history were so sparingly portrayed I got little sense of her as a person. Dissatisfied by the hero, who was a standard issue rich, controlling alpha (a man with so little respect for women that his strategy for binding the heroine to him was to repeatedly hide her birth control—a total and complete WTF moment for me).

I published Lord and Master in 2015 and its follow-up, Her Master’s Servant, in 2016. The third and final ebook in the Lord and Master Trilogy, The Marchioness, will be published on Amazon on March 20, 2017.

Born on the Wirral, I live in Spain for the present, but my dream is to retire (Hah, what is that? Retire???) and live on a narrowboat along one of the many waterways around the Welsh border. That would be exciting I reckon. An outdoor life, quiet, relaxed, with plenty of time to write. I’ve done a lot of things in my life, and now work as a teacher, a profession I’ve been in for almost 25 years, but writing is my first love.

In 2009 my first book was published under the pseudonym Glenn Stuart, and I wrote and had published 10 YA novels. I have now moved away from these books and am now re-writing many of them, publishing them under my name Stuart G Yates. I write adult thrillers (some of them might be classed as cross-overs, that means they are also suitable for teenagers), historical and speculative fiction and, most recently Westerns. This will be my main direction now.

My historical novels tracing the life of Harald Hardrada, are available here in paperback and for the Kindle. A sweeping story full of treachery and murder, I’m sure you’ll find lots to enjoy in this series. VARANGIAN is the first, ORIGINS the latest, which goes back in time to reveal who Harald was, how he developed into the legendary figure he became in parts 1 and 2. I shall begin work on the 4th volume in early 2017. I also have plans for a Viking book or two based in the Wirral back in the early 9th century. I’ve been doing a lot of research around this, my fascination springing from the numerous Scandinavian sounding names of towns and places in the area where I grew up – Thingwall, Irby, Pensby, all good, Viking names!

My most successful series is that of the Western hero Detective Simms, who works for the Pinkerton Agency. A veteran of the Mexican War, Simms is a frontiersman, hard and resourceful. The first in the series (which gives the series its name) is UNFLINCHING and has proved to be my most successful book to date. I have written four in the series so far and the 5th is due out by the end of the year. It is a good series of novels which I think will appeal to anyone, not just lovers of the genre, who enjoys fast-paced mysteries. My goal is to write at least 10 of these books, whilst writing some stand alone Westerns too, with the occasional thriller thrown in.

So, I looked for synonyms for the word “whipped” in my handy Oxford American Thesaurus: stir-up, excite, galvanize, electrify, stimulate, inspire, fire-up, get someone going, inflame, agitate, goad, provoke, flagellate, strap, belt . . . Well, that about covers it, and then some. This story is a sequel to BURNT OFFERINGS by the author [see my review on Amazon] and so it picks up where the other leaves off. Yet, you do not have to read the first story to enjoy WHIPPED UP. But, I do recommend it because it doubles the pleasure and fun of reading and experiencing the harrowing life of Paul Chaise. Yet, an undercurrent flows inside this gut wrenching thriller of a tender and heart-rending love story, or actually two. Yes, the author renders his authentic characters to include a full range of human emotions . . . vengeful killers to vulnerable hearts, seeking love and understanding. For our protagonist is on a quest to find his beloved Linny, who returned to England when she learned his true identity. As he is pursued by a growing array of thugs, gangsters, assassins, and various bloody villains–one of the worst of them actually falls in love and seeks redemption from the least likely source. Yes, there is much more than thrills, chills and shocking twists and turns in this great story . . . there is the one thing that matters most above all else, even survival . . . and that is true love.

He was educated at Ramsden School for Boys, where he spent pretty much most of the time playing computer games, watching movies and occasionally writing a short story. I’m of Cuban heritage, the youngest of 3 kids. I don’t have too many memories of my childhood but… I do remember my constant focus on wanting to be an actor. It was overwhelming, you know? I remember going to the movies every Saturday at 10 AM when they opened. I’m not kidding when I say that I saw every new movie that came out over that weekend. My mom would drop me off and pick me up 7 hours later. I literally saw every movie no matter the genre. Every one in the theater knew me. I had some other fun, played baseball… but movies were it for me.

I don’t really know what made me want to be an actor so intensely. Probably playing with my cousin, silly kids’ games like cops and robbers. I always wanted to be everything, to play at being every occupation, and the only thing in this world that allows you to be an astronaut, cop, or firefighter is… y’know, acting. In the games we played, I always enjoyed being the bad guy more than anything. But… how did I get my start with conning people out of their money? When i was young, I began selling airheads. I knew the going rate was 25 cents but I sold them to older people for a dollar. I knew they didn’t know any better, and if they did, I would give them a spiel on how I was trying to raise money to go on a trip to Boston with my school, but it was all bs.
And I just… never stopped. I’d think of bigger and better things to sell, newer and cleverer stories. I kept doing it because I loved money, loved how it made me feel, the power, the importance. But more than anything, I relished how I could buy love with money. From friends, family… anyone in my life, I loved to see the light in someone’s eyes when I could give them a gift they’d never imagined they’d have. I loved giving more than receiving. But it had to end, eventually. I realized I was in to deep when I saw people getting arrested on tv for doing the exact same thing I was doing… but at that point I was in so deep. It was too late.

Going to prison made me wiser and more patient. Made me realize that materialistic things don’t mean shit, you know? I was losing everything while sitting in a cell and all I think about was ‘are my son and wife were ok?’. If there’s anyone you really love, or want to protect, being locked away in jail away from them is… almost the worst thing in the world that can happen to you.

I wanted people to read my story. I wanted to give others the opportunity to learn some sort of lesson from all my mistakes. As much as it can feel like it, money is not everything. It’s damn sure a necessity, but… it’s not everything.

I hope my story touches your heart heart, and helps you look at the world in a different way.
