I have always loved mysteries. Growing up I couldn’t get enough of Sherlock Holmes and Poirot stories and I regularly dissected Ellery Queen magazine. In high school I drifted away from a lot of the popular culture and got lost in the old Noir films on cable television and stayed up late watching Alfred Hitchcock or reading Raymond Chandler. I was glued to the television watching reruns of Colombo, Dragnet, and Magnum P.I. Any detective show or murder mystery, new or old, I was on top of it.

But it wasn’t a mystery that sparked the scribe in me. I hadn’t ever thought of being a writer until I had entered the hospital for an appendectomy. (This was back in the days when you had to stay in the hospital after an appendectomy.) Out of sheer boredom, I picked up a book that someone had brought me to pass the time. I hadn’t been much of a reader outside of Huckleberry Finn and the aforementioned mystery stories up to that point. The book was The Catcher in The Rye by J.D. Salinger. I read the entire thing in one setting. When I finished the last page and closed the back cover I said to myself, This is it, this is what I want to do. I want to write books.

From that point on I was hooked. I read anything and everything I could get my hands on, sometimes reading two or three books at a time. A few of my early influences are J.D. Salinger, Henry Miller, Jack Kerouac, Ayn Rand and Raymond Chandler. (Unlike most people, I am NOT a fan of Hemingway.)

That was over 20 years ago. Now in my forties and having written hundreds of stories, four novels, and thousands of journal pages (which will never see the light of day), I settled comfortably into the genre of mystery and suspense. My original passion. I created Duke Bradley, private eye and his beautiful, Indian princess partner, Special Agent Shriya Thakur with the FBI and haven’t looked back. The introductory novel, Thirteen Years of Dust (2016 GenZ Publishing). gets us acquainted with Duke and Shriya as they work together for the first time to solve the thirteen year old slaying of Karen Linford. It started with single comic book. My mother was determined to make a reader out of me. Shunning traditional literature at a young age, my mother placed X-Men Classic #69 in my lap and for the first time I was exposed to the phrases, “Mutants,” “BAMF,” and “SNIKT.” From that moment on, I imagined my enrollment at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters at 1407 Graymalkin Lane.

By middle school I was devouring fantasy and science fiction faster than I could check them out of the library. However, my first love remained comic books. I began writing my own comics with my best friend, and by the end of my eighth grade year, I had written over a hundred issues of the superhero series that would eventually become Children of Nostradamus. Meanwhile, I spent my Tuesday’s at the grocery store, rummaging the racks, reading any comic put on the shelf.

Working as a high school teacher provided me with an uncanny amount of great dialogue. The antics of teenagers in a suburban setting became the background of my first published book, Suburban Zombie High. Having started working at a second suburban school, the sequel, Suburban Zombie High: The Reunion was published.

I became known as a geek before it was a trend. During college Jeremy would be shortened to Remy as friends discovered my goal of reading every X-Men comic. Being able to explain the many relationships of Scott Summers and his multi-dimensional children became a badge of honor.

It wasn’t until 2006 that I participated in my first NaNoWriMo writing an epic science fiction novel. Later I would use the opportunity to write Suburban Zombie High and my first draft of Children of Nostradamus. I also belong the New England Horror Writer’s Association where I’m known as the sarcastic zombie author. I also partake in a weekly writing group called the Metrowest Writers where people are flabbergasted by my love of comics and scifi.

This would be because Triton’s Daughter is the only woman, she is over 100 years old and is regularly placed in life-threatening jobs, and receives no compensation.

To remedy this and to get back in the business of guarding the most populated city in America, the Mighty Manhattans put out a nationwide call for young superhuman girls to join the ranks. One rejection after another…after another. The applicant’s powers are just not M/M worthy.

This comes at a time when the biggest and maddest plan to take over the world is being set in motion by Dr. Fahrenheit with an assemblage of the most dangerous super criminals to ever converge on the Diamond District. Step one to the plan is to take out the Mighty Manhattans. Of course the plan is diabolical. And Dr. Fahrenheit doesn’t even know they are barred from exercising any extra-human abilities or utilizing any super sanctioned armor, machines, or devices. She has them buddy up for safety and this leads to the awesome synergistic effect of reliance on the powers of the newly found companions in the coming conflict.

Some bond through success, some through pain. But all through sisterhood. Super sisterhood.

And they meet some help from resident superheroes such as Wilson who inhabits 9th street and keeps evil at bay from the children. “Witch, you know you can’t cross Ninth Street…ever.” And the Pain Angel with healing sympathies for their struggles…” Trust me Child, I’ve seen worse.”

This novel can be expected to spin off a series of exciting books when the Super Girls go back to their former lives and wait to be called in classic Mission Impossible style that will match them against new threats to truth, justice, and not playing nice.

The Origin series will bring wonderful insight into the characters and will include stories of the cameo appearances in the battle. Wilson has a story that is both heart-breaking and inspiring when it is revealed why he can’t leave Hell’s Kitchen on Ninth Street and why he can’t be seen by the innocent.
