A biography is tough to write, especially when you’re writing about yourself and not some rock-star with a sordid past and a thousand pages of Google search hits. So, I’m just going to wing it – let ‘er rip as they say – and we’ll see what comes out.

I’m a proud Canadian, ex-farm boy, truck driver, mechanical tinkerer, computer programmer, chemical salesman, and business owner who has four kids and a wife that keeps us all in line and on time (as much as is humanly possible).

I’m just literate enough to string together enough of a collection of words that they form sentences, and just stubborn enough to string together enough sentences to form a novel or two. I’ve always wanted to write a novel and finally made the time to make it happen, and once I had finished the first one, I was surprised that some people actually thought it was pretty good. Right now I am almost finished the third book in my ‘Book of Adam’ series.

Besides writing, I have always loved to read. I enjoy stories that are told for the sake of the story, that’s about it. Mysteries, adventures, science fiction, fantasy – it’s all good as long as the story is good. I’ve never been big on high literary fiction or books that take three pages to describe the way a character dresses, but I’ll try and read just about anything. As I get older though, I seem to find it easier to toss a book aside and start another one if I find it isn’t keeping me interested or pulling me into in the story.

In 53 BC, the Roman general Marcus Crassus led an invasion force into Parthia, determined to conquer it and all the kingdoms situated along the Silk Road toward China. But the Parthians defeated their enemy and captured 10,000 Romans. The captives’ fate was unclear, until 2,000 years later when Oxford Professor Homer H. Dubs proposed the Roman prisoners became mercenaries to a tribe in Central Asia and fought the Han Chinese in 36 BC. His evidence lay in a description in the Chinese records of a “fish-scale” formation, a tactic similarly employed by the Romans. The Chinese then seized these Romans and settled them in a town in north-western China and named it after Rome. Today, tests have found that the DNA of some villagers living in the same area is 56% Caucasian in origin, and the locals proudly attribute this to their Roman ancestry.

Using the available sources, Romans in China traces the steps the Romans likely took into lands unknown, ultimately revealing just how much myth and fact the theory really contains.
