Keri Topouzian was born in Detroit, Michigan on June 25, 1956, and then at 13, moved with his family to Birmingham, Michigan. Along the way, Varsenig’s parents traded their silk rugs for rugs made of horsehair, a more suitable material with which to make tents. Once they had reached Damascus, however, Varsenig’s mother tragically died of pneumonia. Varsenig, her brother and their father survived the war and returned to Constantinople. There, her father died of a gunshot wound to the leg after trying to break up a fight between two of his friends. Varsenig and her younger brother were now alone. Each was placed in a different orphanage, she in France, and her brother in Greece. Later, relatives arranged her marriage to Mihran, who traveled to France and took her back to his home in Utica as his wife.

Keri’s Maternal grandmother, Arous Avedisian, came to the U.S. by way of the Armenian village of Averek. At the age of 3, she traveled with her mother and two half sisters and lived with them in Waukegan, Illinois. Keri’s maternal grandfather, Ardashes Baghdasar Yacoubian, was born in the village Kharpert. He bought and sold real estate for a living. He arrived in the U.S. between 1910 and 1912 with his older brother and two young sisters. He planned to earn enough money to later send for his parents and two other siblings, but World War I ensued and he lost touch with his remaining family. He never heard from them again.

Topouzian started writing “A Perfect Armenian” in 2003 and published the novel 7 years later. As a boy, his mother would critique all of his school papers with a discerning eye until they were perfect. Later in life he realized this was a blessing in disguise. His love of writing was further developed while preparing elaborate proposals for a medical document transcription company he had once owned. He found through this business that he enjoyed taking abstract ideas and putting them to paper. After reading a number of Armenian books of fiction, he became frustrated with the melancholy and destructiveness that surrounded Armenian characters. He dreamed of a story that found triumph within one of the worst times in Armenian history. This inspired him to write, “A Perfect Armenian”.

Topouzian is a physician who practices holistic and alternative medicine with offices in Grand Rapids, MI and Detroit, MI. He is active in the Armenian community but spends most of his free time with his wife and four growing children.

Now Marie Bartek is the head of the paranormal group that consists of a few very interesting characters, including her heartthrob, Cory. They take the job. After the group takes care of the ghost at Shawna’s, she accepts the request to stay and work on the disappearance of Kelly. All goes well until she realizes that she brought more than just her group to D.C.–it seems that Demon B also accompanied her. Choosing to stay and find Kelly may cost them several lives: that of her mentor, Kelly’s and hers.

It is a very good paranormal story, in the same realm as “Ghost Busters”. I really enjoyed the telling and the tale. I consider it a must have in the library of lovers of suspense, romance, and paranormal investigation. “Federal City’s Secret” is well-done entertainment for a hot day at the beach or a lazy afternoon at the swimming pool. Robin presents a great story and characters. This is great reading for young adults to adults alike. You will really love this paranormal detective story that will keep you glued through to the last page. I loved it and believe that you will too.

Secret of Coffin Island is Book 4 in Robin Murphy’s paranormal mystery series, Marie Bartek and the SIPS Team. Dr. Marie Bartek and her fiance, Police Chief Cory Miller, have finally tied the knot. Their wedding festivities are interrupted, however, by the discovery of a headless corpse. While criminal investigations are, strictly speaking, Cory’s milieu, Marie and her team of psychic researchers have been instrumental in solving mysteries in the past, and she has already received visions that seem to pertain to the mystery at hand. Robin Murphy’s paranormal mystery, Secret of Coffin Island: Marie Bartek and the SIPS Team, Book 4, is an exciting and well-plotted novel. While it’s the fourth book in the series, Murphy includes just enough background information to allow this book to be read on its own without giving away too much about the previous mysteries. I found myself enchanted by Sullivan Island and the ambiance of a beach community, and enjoyed the plot’s historical connection to Edgar Allan Poe’s The Gold Bug. The author also gives a valid working picture of a psychic investigation team at work as well as having the husband/wife team working together on the case. Secret of Coffin Island is an interesting and quite effective blend of the paranormal and the police procedural genres that works marvelously. Her main character’s idea for a retreat for psychic youth is inspired and gives the series a sense of continuance, and Isabella’s pivotal role in this story makes it fresh and compelling. Secret of Coffin Island: Marie Bartek and the SIPS Team, Book 4 is highly recommended

Writing fiction has been of interest to me for as long as I can remember. One of my favourite things in school was when the teacher gave us free rein to write a fiction story of our choice, I actually found one of these that I’d received an A* for in my old student record of achievement file. It was strange reading it back, ten pages of A4 painfully scripted by hand in fountain pen. I am only thirty four years of age and ball point had obviously been invented, so god knows why I slogged it out in fountain pen, but I did. After school my writing literally stopped, I got caught up with other things that people in their late teens enjoy, mainly partying and getting drunk if I remember correctly, and working to pay for the aforementioned activities. Even in the sixteen years’ gap between that last hand scribed story I found and the publishing of Watchers, I tried many times to start a book. Sadly any project I tried never got past the first three chapters. I even started writing Watchers in 2004, shortly after meeting my long term partner and now fiancée, Laura. The start was a little different but the character names and general plot were the same, and that’s how it began. Although at that point I did not get past chapter two. Whilst I’d often think up cool or quirky ideas for stories I’d never get round to writing, Watchers would not go away. For near on ten years it remained where I thought it always would, in my head. Then as the indie book began to take hold I saw my chance to get this story out there, now all I had to do was actually write the thing. I penned the first two chapters and let a friend read them, asking for an honest review, when she literally demanded I carry on writing it so she could see the story unfold I knew it was now or never, and after nearly a year’s research and writing I finally finished the book, even leaving it open enough for a follow up novel if the story obtained some good reviews, which it did. So, being a glutton for punishment and still not quite able to believe that I’d written a novel length story, I started book two. My plans were to have it written and published by now, but we had a pretty shitty 2013 with a number of close family deaths, this saw the writing of book two well and truly put on hold. Thankfully, we did have one ray of light in that dark year: my son Finley was born in January. Whilst being great fun and now a year old, he certainly does not give me much time to put finger to keyboard. SB
