Hailing from suburban Chicago, David Pauly went to high school with Ferris Bueller, though he never got a ride in the Ferrari. Fun didn’t really start until college at UW Madison, or Madtown as it was back then. 10 beers for a dollar, 80’s miniskirts, with a total den of iniquity at his disposal made for awesome times that he mostly remembers. His History degree upon graduation meant straight to food service flipping pizzas.

Poverty was unappealing, with no Ferrari in sight, so deciding to sell most of his soul, he went onward and downward to law school, literally. It was deep into the Confederacy where David would spend 3 years at Washington and Lee trying to understand Southern Tradition but failing miserably.

Another graduation saw David move to the Land of Enchantment where he was bemused by the sunny skies and spicy food of New Mexico for a short while. Soon the nickname of the state, the Land of Entrapment, truly revealed itself as David was surrounded by angry slackers, financing their tattoos by disconnecting their utilities, subjected to a horrible sound emanating from cheap speakers; Grunge. David’s only escape from this sandy hell of ignorance, poverty and violence was returning to his childhood escape, fantasy fiction.

Always wondering what would have happened after the ring went into the fire he began to write a few lines of fan fiction, which became pages, chapters and eventually an entire novel. Re-writing fan fiction into an original story was incredibly difficult, yet rewarding, but finally the world of Nostraterra during the Fourth Age came to life in the series Shadow Wars.

Shortly after roughing out Assassins, David heard gun fire from his office window and saw the film crew from Breaking Bad taking cover from an actual drive-by as rival gangs sprayed bullets indiscriminately. Fearing that his tenure as Saul was about to come to an end in a shallow grave on the west mesa, David and his family pulled up stakes bound for down under.

Older certainly, wiser, maybe not, but physically much safer trading kangaroos leaping out from the bushes rather than heavily armed Trump fans. David is hard at work on the second series of books from the land of Nostraterra, The Fourth Age, Dark Shaman. With a little luck, he will be able to put away his Barrister’s robes, write and cook, never to be asked by a client, “Am I going to Jail again?” again.

Sydney’s sudden departure from Bradford leads to confusion back home; especially when Alan’s globetrotting friend Philip drops in and arranges to send Corfu postcards from destinations on his journeyings, but written on the spot by Sydney who remains in Corfu. The reader is taken through the ups and downs of Sydney’s burgeoning relationship with Felicity which is at times touching, romantic and farcical; Alan’s struggles to make it in the art world, and Sydney’s complete ineptitude in business. It can only end in tears, most likely Sydney’s. With his fortune dwindling and business foundering he struggles. But somehow this is counterweighted by the upturn in his personal life. Maybe some people are just not meant to be rich. It doesn’t suit Sydney. His faltering attempts to impress Felicity’s rich and snobbish parents; Felicity’s reciprocation in trying to adapt to Sydney’s down at heel working class life in Bradford (she even joins the Legion club’s Ladies darts team, while he promises to learn to drive), and the sadness and at times tragi-comedy that the events engender lead to an unlikely ending.

From a young age I have always written. Attempts at short stories at first. I even wrote the first few pages of an autobiography when I was 15 with the intention of using it years later for the beginning of a real one that I might write years later (I still have it). My equal love was music, but again mainly the writing of it. I wrote my first songs when I was 11. This passion won the struggle between the two interests and I graduated into music in a serious way by joining a band when I could hardly play anything. This developed into a full time job and several record releases mostly written by myself. Eventually I had to re-join the real world of tertiary education and work.
Music is still an interest and I do devote time to writing, recording, and playing live. But I want to build up a catalogue of written works of fiction. So now I am publishing my first novel (the first in a series) whilst simultaneously recording my first solo album. I hope that there will be many more to come of both.

Born on the Wirral, I live in Spain for the present, but my dream is to retire (Hah, what is that? Retire???) and live on a narrowboat along one of the many waterways around the Welsh border. I write adult thrillers (some of them might be classed as cross-overs, that means they are also suitable for teenagers), historical and speculative fiction and, most recently Westerns. This will be my main direction now. My historical novels tracing the life of Harald Hardrada, are available here in paperback and for the Kindle. A sweeping story full of treachery and murder, I’m sure you’ll find lots to enjoy in this series. VARANGIAN is the first, ORIGINS the latest, which goes back in time to reveal who Harald was, how he developed into the legendary figure he became in parts 1 and 2. I shall begin work on the 4th volume in early 2017. I also have plans for a Viking book or two based in the Wirral back in the early 9th century. I’ve been doing a lot of research around this, my fascination springing from the numerous Scandinavian sounding names of towns and places in the area where I grew up – Thingwall, Irby, Pensby, all good, Viking names! My most successful series is that of the Western hero Detective Simms, who works for the Pinkerton Agency. A veteran of the Mexican War, Simms is a frontiersman, hard and resourceful. The first in the series (which gives the series its name) is UNFLINCHING and has proved to be my most successful book to date. I have written four in the series so far and the 5th is due out by the end of the year. It is a good series of novels which I think will appeal to anyone, not just lovers of the genre, who enjoys fast-paced mysteries. My goal is to write at least 10 of these books, whilst writing some stand alone Westerns too, with the occasional thriller thrown in.
