A diverse writer of columns, feature stores, short fiction, novels, screenplays and stage plays, Maryann Miller has won numerous awards including being a semi-finalist at the Sundance Institute for her screenplay, “A Question of Honor.” More recently she placed in the top 15 percent of entries in the Chesterfield Screenwriting Fellowship with the adaptation of “Open Season.” In association with Stephen Marro Productions in New York, Miller has done script editing and doctoring and has co-authored three screenplays; “Holding Point,” “Canned Goods,” and “It Doesn’t Take a Hero.” She was the script doctor for “Broadway’s Finest”, which released in 2012.
Other awards include the Page Edwards Short Fiction Award, the New York Library Best Book for Teens, Best Mystery for 2015 from the Texas Association of Authors, Trails Country Treasure Award from the Winnsboro Center for the Arts, and Woman of the Year by the Winnsboro Area Chamber of Commerce.
Having a long-time love affair with live theatre, Miller has been associated with high school drama departments as a production assistant and adviser for stage productions and student films. She is currently the Theatre Director at the Winnsboro Center for the Arts, where she coordinates the annual Summer Drama Camp for kids, and directs the troupe of players, young and young at heart, in several productions each year. She also likes to be on stage and had her dream role as Martha in “Arsenic and Old Lace.”
When not writing or playing on stage, Miller likes to take care of her critters on Grandma’s Ranch, where she lives on five acres in the beautiful Piney Woods of East Texas with one horse, one goat, one sheep, one dog and four cats. The cats rule.

Then little Eli was struck down with cancer. We follow his journey, step by step as the young mother attempts to keep her sanity, split her time between one child in hospital and one 250 miles away. You can feel her anguish and pain. The very people who should have been helping to ease her burden; her mother, her siblings and her soon to be ex-husband were so busy plotting and planning on how they could benefit from this turn of events, she was left to struggle along with support only from some special friends.
This book is a harrowing read, make no mistake, but it is also incredibly rewarding. To anyone who has ever complained about how hard their life is – I say; read “When Angels Fly”. To anyone who has ever said their life sucked – I say; read “When Angels Fly”. The courage, fortitude and the immense challenges that this woman and her beautiful son faced, you can’t help but be uplifted and reminded just how much we all have to be grateful for.
The book is in a large part a daily journal of Eli’s time in hospital and I totally understand the need the author felt to document every day – every day with her son was so very precious. The writing style was at times slightly hard to read, but nothing can take away from the powerful impact it had on me as a reader. I was truly moved by and genuinely felt everything this poor woman had to endure… mostly alone. Any other book that had these editorial issues would have only garnered four stars from me, but there’s no way I could not give this five stars. The memories of Sarah, Noah and Eli will live in my memory well after I’ve consigned this book to the “read” shelf. I feel privileged to have shared Sarah’s harrowing journey. When Angels Fly does exactly what it sets out to do I believe – it reminds us that “There but for the grace of God, go I”. I recommend this book to all…. it will make you cry, but it will also uplift you. Well done.

I grew up in a small Kansas (USA) town and I lived in more than one state since then. At this time, my husband and I split our time between Kansas and Colorado (we love the mountains and off road 4-wheeling). Ray Bourhis is uniquely qualified to be a political pundit and an enemy of unbridled corporate and political corruption. A lawyer practicing out of San Francisco and Santa Barbara, California, Bourhis has been at the forefront of the battle against greed and excessive power for most of his life.
Bourhis grew up in the tough neighborhood of Elmhurst in Queens, New York. He credits an attempt by local street gang members to throw him, at the age of twelve, into a blazing bonfire with helping him develop the survival skills needed to spend his legal career taking on insurance companies.

I am the second of six children. Although I was born in New York City, I was raised on a family farm in North Carolina. I was definitely a tomboy when I was young and my mother couldn’t keep me in the house. I was always ready for an adventure. Because I didn’t want to sit down to read, the books I did read had to be filled with adventure.
I have a BSBA in Business Administration (Concentration in Management) from Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. Most of my adult career was working in the healthcare industry for wonderful surgical oncologist and I ended my career with The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. I raised an athletic son and loved watching him play roller hockey and basketball. Along with raising a human child, I had lots of four legged children. Our home was known as “the farm”. You know the saying, “you can take the girl away from the farm, but you cannot take the farm out of the girl.” That was me.
I have enjoyed creative writing just since I was in elementary school. At the age of thirty I set a goal for myself to write at least one book in my lifetime.
After many attempts to start that one book, it wasn’t until I hit fifty that I finally began a story that just seemed to be meant to be written. Returning to the family farm and listening to my son and his cousins, this idea just hit me. When I returned to Florida, I could not stop typing and I quickly outlined a six book saga. Because so many people became enamored with my character, Uncle Jake, I added a prequel to my series that became seven books.
I completed my series in July 2015 and now I can honestly tell you that people are loving the series that all started with “2 Girls, 2 Cats: A Magical Mystery”. There are characters that everyone in your family can relate to and I know many readers will enjoy the many unbelievable adventures.

My pen name is in memory of my sister and brother. Long story short on my last week as a lawyer, I had to drive a client and his pregnant girlfriend from Manchester to court in Grimsby. An incident happened on the motorway which I “didn’t see” my passengers did. All I remember is seeing a black plastic bag in the middle of the road, driving over it, my hands lifting off the steering wheel, silence and two birds flying towards my windscreen. I said the words, Catherine and Michael. What had happened was an exhaust fell off a dumper truck in front of a van; the van driver ran into it, and it flew into the path of my car. By some miracle, I drove over it perfectly and it shot out of the back in flames. My passengers told me what had happened and I knew my sister and brother had protected me.
I have lived in Ecuador for just over four years now and I love it here. I didn’t pick Ecuador, Ecuador picked me. After leaving my dream job as a lawyer I drifted from temp job to temp job trying to find something I felt passionate about. Three years later I hadn’t found it and then I had a conversation with a good friend, Catherine, and she was heading to Thailand to teach English. The lightbulb went on and, as I love Thailand, decided to go there. I went to bed and had the most vivid dream I have ever had; the colours the shimmering are still very difficult for me to describe. I woke up and the first word I said was Ecuador. I didn’t know what the word was so I googled it and found out it was a country! I spent the weekend reading as much as I could about the country and by Monday I had decided that was where I was going to move to. My family and friends didn’t understand the strength of the dream and thought (some still think) I’m crazy.
A year later I had given away all my possessions, packed everything else in two rucksacks and arrived in Quito on a one-way ticket. That was when I started to panic; I didn’t know Spanish, I’d never been to South America before, I didn’t have a job, I didn’t know anyone. It took a while to settle but I’ve carved myself a little niche in a countryside village called Bucay where the local refer to me as the Inglesa who walks. I love walking in the countryside here, by the rivers, near the mountains, beautiful – I suppose the grass is greener. They think life must be better in the Western World but are proud that I chose their pueblo to be my home
