I also witnessed the death of my uncle after having a long battle against his diabetes. Before that he had had to follow a strict diet and had to ignore a lot of great foods he liked because they are high in sugar, which sometimes bothered him a lot. I also have an aunt who isn’t allowed to drink coffee and soya products by doctors due to having been diagnosed with hyperthyroidism. Therefore I understand that health is the key for everything. I mean that we can’t enjoy all excitements in life without health, so everything can give me healthier is worth learning and trying, so food is a part of them.
And for those reasons my two books were written. Yeap, that’s right! Chapter 5: Preventing the Recurrence of Fibroids
A woman who has undergone surgery to remove uterine fibroids – with the exception of hysterectomy – may be concerned if her fibroids may return in the same area or grow in other areas. Once the fibroids are surgically removed through myomectomy, they do not grow back. However, since the uterus is kept intact, new fibroids can grow in the same location or on another part of the uterus.
While new fibroids may grow after a myomectomy, additional treatment or surgery is required for some women. About 11% of those who have undergone myomectomy to remove a single fibroid will be needing another procedure in the next 10 years. In cases where multiple fibroids are removed, there is a 26% chance that surgery will eventually be needed again.
In the case of UFE (uterine fibroid embolization), a study determined that 17% of women who underwent the procedure needed more treatment within the next 30 months. As most new fibroids occurred within two years, the research proponents suggested that the women be checked with ultrasound (transvaginal) for at least two years after UFE.
As a woman nears menopause, the risks for the development of new fibroids become lower. It’s also highly unusual for a woman to require another procedure if she went through a myomectomy after the age of 40.
As uterine fibroids don’t have a definite cause, there is also no precise prevention method for new fibroids. It’s all about lessening the risk and eating certain foods that may help curb the growth of fibroids. While the uterus is still active and a woman is still a long way off from menopause, she is still likely to develop new fibroids, but the risk of going through another surgery is relatively low.
