  1. THE COMING WOMAN by Karen J Hicks

book-coverAbout THE COMING WOMAN by Karen J Hicks

On April 2, 1870, readers of the New York Herald open their newspapers to an astonishing headline: “The Coming Woman, Victoria C. Woodhull, to race for the White House!” And so begins the story of power, politics, promiscuity, and persecution surrounding one of the most fascinating and controversial women in American history.

Reactions to Victoria’s announcement are mostly amused. After all, women can’t even vote! But she and her sister already mix it up with the men on Wall Street, running the first woman-owned and run brokerage firm, and now she launches the first successful mainstream newspaper to be run by a woman. When she becomes the first woman to enter the bastion of male dominance, the House Judiciary Committee, her argument that the 14th and 15th Amendments already give women the vote stuns the men and electrifies the women!

As her power and influence grow, the male-dominated media attacks. Victoria counters the assaults by becoming bolder, urging women to revolt—even to secede—if they are not recognized as citizens. Such radical views, combined with her political ambitions, stir up controversy, but she will not be deterred.

On May 10, 1872, the Equal Rights Party officially nominates her as its Presidential candidate, with former-slave-turned-statesman Frederick Douglass as her V.P. If she thought she was persecuted before, it is nothing compared to what follows. Refusing to give up, she fights back the only way she knows how, landing herself in jail on election day and provoking the longest, most sensational civil trial in U.S. history.

  1. Missing Mona: A Tommy Cuda Mystery by Joe Klingler

missingmonaAbout Missing Mona: A Tommy Cuda Mystery by Joe Klingler

Missing Mona an 2015 INDIEFAB Book of the Year Finalist will be available for 99¢ from September 2-8.

“Klingler presents his craftiest yarn to date, summoning the pulpy spirits of Raymond Chandler and Dashiell Hammett. The setting of Chicago rattles from the page in lines such as, ‘The buildings held noise and exhaust fumes around me like a torture chamber.'” –Kirkus Reviews (Featured Review)

Tommy has boomeranged back to his parents residence and a dead-end job after too many years in college. As he looks squarely at his next decade of life his smartphone convinces him the time is ripe for a change. A gift from his grandfather provides the means, so he embarks on the path of blues artists and beatniks before him–and hits the road.

He immediately meets a damsel in hitchhiking distress who says her name is Mona. Her presence persuades him that the bright lights and dark clubs of Chicago might be his kind of town. So on a summer Saturday night they settle into a fancy hotel overlooking the beaches of Lake Michigan.

On Sunday…Mona disappears.

But she leaves behind more than a sweet memory that involves Tommy in a brand new cash flow problem he never imagined. While trying to sort out how to stay on the right side of the law and get back on the road, he meets a young criminologist who helps him, a DJ who doesn’t, and a librarian who teaches him about the city, women, and the art of the makeover. After truth and lies are stirred like a blue martini, being assaulted by a pink monkey, and witnessing a drive-by shooting that drowns a Ferrari–Tommy is desperate to help Mona.

If he can find her.

“A private investigator, a mysterious hitchhiker, dancers, gangsters, a mysterious bag that holds the unthinkable and twists and turns that will have the reader unable to put it down, Missing Mona by Joe Klingler has it all.”–San Francisco Book Review (5 of 5 stars)

I write paranormal, sci-fi, and fantasy romance. I have wanted to be a writer for as long as I can remember. I write what I enjoy in the hopes that others will enjoy it as well. I’ve always been drawn to the macabre. Vampires, werewolves, you name it. I’ve never written about the paranormal because it’s popular. I do it because that’s what I’m interested in. If the vampire fad ever passes, I’ll still be sitting here in my Dracula cape, getting my fang on.

I write erotic horror under the name T.K. Hardin.

  1. Weight Loss for Health and Wellness by Hannah Raybans

WeightLossforHealthandWellnessAbout Weight Loss for Health and Wellness by Hannah Raybans:

This book focuses on weight loss for health and wellness. Since there are so many books out there on diets and exercise plans – we don’t want to deal too much with that. Most of us have already purchased books on diets or have even joined online dieting programs. Some of us succeed and others don’t. Many of us manage to lose some weight, keep it off for a while, and then slowly find ourselves gaining that weight back, plus more. That’s why we also want to focus on some of the reasons for this. How do our behaviors, attitudes and emotions play into weight gain, obesity, or at the other end of the spectrum, eating disorders? The bottom line is that many of us will have a hard time succeeding in any long-term weight management program if we don’t understand what drives us to eat too much or too little. By now, we’re all familiar with the concept that in order to lose weight, we have to burn off more calories than we consume on a daily basis. However, many of us don’t have the time or the inclination to count every calorie, track every bit of movement, or both.Weight management is not merely starving for a few days or engaging in a week-long plan to lose three or four pounds so that you can fit into that sleek pair of slacks or that bridesmaid’s dress. Those are temporary fixes that produce fast results. However, those results don’t last. Throughout this book, we want to provide information and strategies to help you manage your weight and your health long-term. We’ll talk about comfort eating and a few eating disorders and what causes them. We’ll talk about the impact that our environment and culture has on our eating habits and some eating disorders. We also want to explain the medical ramifications of weight gain and obesity as well as emotional issues that may lead to problems with long-term weight management. We discuss symptoms of eating disorders so that you are aware of more serious aspects of weight management planning and show you ways that you can help someone else, or yourself, with weight management issues. We strive to provide you with the tools you need to succeed in long-term weight management goals. We’re not suggesting that these changes will happen overnight. While it’s important to make a decision to lead a healthier lifestyle, it’s also important to pace yourself. Set reasonable expectations and goals. If it took two years to put on that extra weight, you can’t expect to drop that weight in a few weeks. For many of us, our lifestyles and the demands placed upon us have a direct relation to weight gain and obesity. Chances are, many of us will fail one or more times as we strive to develop healthier eating habits, exercise routines, and lifestyles that promote success in not only healthy weight loss, but management of our weight and health for the future.Let’s face it. At one time or another, most of us experience weight gain, yo-yo dieting or successes and failures when it comes to maintaining weight long term. Many of us struggle through life with eating disorders that affect not only our weight, but our overall health and wellness. By taking a closer look at such issues, you will find that you – with dedication and diligence – find your ideal weight and reach for optimal health and wellness now and into the future.***** Here is a preview of what you will learn in ‘Self Help: Weight Loss for Health and Wellness – Best Health and Fitness, Weight Loss and Diet Tips Ever to Lose Weight and Achieve Long-term Health and Wellness’:Weight loss strategiesWeight management successOvercoming weight management challengesDeveloping nutritious and balanced eating behaviorsLong-term weight managementExercise and calories usedEnergy and metabolismTherapies and treatments for weight lossNutritional and alternative therapiesOvercoming yo-yo dietingWeight loss tipsWeight loss motivationMuch, much more!

Are you someone who is conscious about how others see you? What people may think? What someone may say?

Well most of us know that, to a certain extent, this is normal. In fact, it has a lot to do with why we dress to make ourselves presentable. Practice good personal hygiene. Comb our hair. Make sure no food is stuck in our teeth, etc.

But for many it goes way beyond these basics. Millions of people are not just conscious of how others see them, they constantly worry about it!

To the point where it has an affect on many aspects of their daily lives. From very fundamental decisions like where they go for lunch with co-workers. To major things that can have a major impact on their entire life. Like choosing to be with a crowd that has dangerous behaviors which puts you at risk.

Some people feel such a need to please others that they will actually make decisions that are detrimental to themselves. They do it just to improve other people’s opinions of them. They may really want to say NO. But fear how it will make them appear. And that someone’s opinion of them may be lowered because it.

Most people immediately associate something like ‘Peer Pressure’ with kids, teenagers, etc. And in recent years social media has clearly been a powerful contributor. But this dynamic occurs at all ages! Well into our adulthood. With co-workers, family members, the neighbors, etc.

So why do we let other people’s opinions have so much power and control over us?

For many people, most of their day to day decisions are not based on what they truly want. It is based on how they think those decisions will make them appear to other people. They are overly concerned about what people may say.

This guide provides practical informational, and tips, to stop being a “People Pleaser”. How to stop worrying and start living. And begin making choices that are based on what you want.

The information that you will receive in this short book will help you get to the place where you can honestly say “I Don’t Care What People Think!”

What makes this book unique compared to the other kindle books on this same subject is that it provides all the important information. However, it is not a 300 page college textbook, with excess information, that will require a large commitment of time just to read through it all.

It gives you the info, and the advice, you need to immediately start to see changes.

I love to make jokes and “funny business.” That’s one of the main reasons I enjoy writing – to amuse myself and children (and also the big children that are called “grown-ups”).For me, funny business is a way to love life, and it’s also a way to transform sorrows. My ancestors, their hearts full of stories and hopes, fled to the U.S. from Poland and Ukraine in the early part of the twentieth century. Forty years later, I was born in New York City. When I was growing up, playing games and sports and reading were the main things I enjoyed, and they’re still the main things I enjoy today! I wound up in Portland, Oregon where in 1989 I founded the nonprofit tree-planting group, Friends of Trees. In 1996, I was honored as a “Community Hero” for my role as the group’s founder and carried the Olympic torch in its national relay. In 2001, St. Martin’s Press published my nonfiction book for adults, “Oracle of Kabbalah: Mystical Teachings of the Hebrew Letters.” A revised edition, “A New Oracle of Kabbalah,” was published in 2015 by White Cloud Press.I’m a member of SCBWI, the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and a founding member of a local children’s book writing critique group. I’m also the editor and compiler of a nonfiction children’s book published by Benchmark Education, “I Am Deaf and I Dance: A Memoir.” In the fall of 2013, after training in the martial arts for eighteen years, I earned a black belt in Shotokan Karate.I now live in Ashland, Oregon with my wife, Rachael. Detective Mike Williams is depressingly messy whereas Detective Lee Su Yuan is as neat as a pin. Together they are the “Flaw and Order” team.Four dogs keep a small crowd of bank customers at bay while two thieves help themselves to the content of two safety deposit boxes. They make out with a wad of money and two extremely valuable items that had been lost during the Second World War: a Faberge egg and a necklace worth millions. That same day the bodies of two old ladies are discovered in their apartment. They gave the keys to the safety deposit boxes to the thieves. Mike and Yuan together with the robbery team unearth several clues indicating that the ladies were former Nazi surgeons who performed odious procedures on their victims. It turns out that the necklace belonged to a Prussian princess who was killed after giving it to one of the Nazi surgeons who was killed in their Philadelphia apartment. 1. WarhawkWarhawk by D.E. Kinney

WarhawkWarhawkAbout WarhawkWarhawk by D.E. Kinney:

Come, let us sit together in the evening of Jaden, among its enchanted trees, and talk of the Warhawk. To reminisce on those things which are good and upright, of courage, and self-sacrifice, and yes, sadly, to lament the failings of fragile psyche. It is fitting that we do so, to remember the deeds of the one called Logan, (the young man from Detroit), even if he has forgotten.

Warhawk has been painstakingly crafted; each thought scrutinized, every word forced to show justification for its existence—as is befitting creation in any form. The reality of its characters no more in questioned than an unknown neighbor, or a passing face in a crowd. But beware. Unlike traditional fair, much of which is fashioned to resemble a platter of sweet snacks, Warhawk must not be eaten haphazardly, enjoyed for a moment and quickly dismissed. It is instead, a wonderfully presented meal, meant to be savored, and can therefore never to be consumed in haste—nor will this adventure be quickly forgotten.

Finally, my dear friends, know this… In the whole of this world, from now until then, if but one soul should read this book and their heart be lifted up, I will not have labored in vain.

  1. What he did to her by S. M. Mala

WHDTH-small-pix-with-textAbout What he did to her by S. M. Mala:

Conor’s life consists of drugs, drink and getting dirty with as many women as possibly. He doesn’t care about the size, shape or colour as long as they want uncomplicated fun then he’s happy. For him love and relationships come with dire consequences and that’s not how he wants to live his life.

To Conor’s dismay, he finds his married boss Marcus, is having a fling with his very own sister Debs, and Conor has been asked to cover the trail by lying to the boss’s wife. The only problem is that he works with Neve and she’s no pushover.

When everything comes out into the open, his loyalty to friends and family are put to the test as people he thought he knew well are not what they seem. And when an ex walks back into his life he is once again ruled by the snake in his pants knowing she’s more than a handful to deal with.

Conor begins to find his simple hedonistic life being taken over by other people’s clouded judgement on their need for love, while he tries to avoid the same thing happening to him.

Except ‘love’ is creeping up on him in an unexpected place that he would just about do anything to avoid. And temptation is going to lead him and his loved ones into trouble with serious consequences.

Author Bio:
British born with a passion for film, television and reading. I was never a bookworm, always preferring to see the vision in front of my eyes rather than in my head.
But one day I realised the imagery and the stories needed to come out, so I sat there and wrote.
I’m not an overnight talent, not a secret creative genius. I let it all unfold and even surprised myself what was going on in my head.
I want you to escape into the characters. Laugh, cry, love, hate, but mostly enjoy.
They’re not your run of the mill situations. Some of the people are flawed, but they have one thing in common. To find happiness but it’s never that easy.
There are twists and turns to keep you wondering what’s going on. Even when I’m writing, I have no idea where the story is heading… but it is going somewhere, sometimes where I never planned or expected.
The situations unfold like a film in my head. I can see it and feel it, and then when I’m sure about it, I write.
All novels are in British English and translates perfectly for all!

  1. The Case of the Fallen Hero (An Inspector David Graham Cozy Mystery Book 3) by Alison Golden

TheCaseoftheFallenHeroAnInspectorDavidGrahamCozyMysteryBook31About The Case of the Fallen Hero (An Inspector David Graham Cozy Mystery Book 3) by Alison Golden:

An historic castle. A beautiful wedding. A dead groom.

Former big city cop, Inspector David Graham, is now leading a small group of officers in the tiny coastal village of Gorey. One Sunday morning, as he walks around the imposing Orgueil castle, Graham’s peaceful life comes to a shuddering halt when he finds a woman kneeling beside the body of a stricken man. As the woman’s screams ring out, Graham is there to assist – and to start gathering clues. Was it suicide? An accident? Or something far more nefarious?

Questions lead to trails that send the team digging through the history of not only the affected families, but the castle itself where a quartet of talented musicians have seemingly vanished. Monolithic in size and secrets, Orgueil Castle may reveal answers in the strangest…. and deepest ways possible.

With one dead, four missing, and many long-buried family secrets, Inspector David Graham wonders if there is enough tea to see him through it all.

Interview with the Author of the Series
Q – So, what makes the Inspector David Graham series special?

A – When I set out to write these books, I wanted to create something that played like a movie in the reader’s mind. They are books with action, but also soul. They are ensemble pieces containing regular characters that are well drawn with strong personalities, humor and some tragedy. The Inspector David Graham books feel, to me, like good friends that never let me down. Every time we sit down to plan the books, I love to find out what the characters are going to get up to next!

The Inspector David Graham books are a great mix of genres. They sit firmly in the cozy mystery category and are set on the beautiful island of Jersey in the English Channel between Britain and France. They feature a British detective who is part-Sherlock Holmes, part-Poirot, and, of course, uniquely himself.

Q – In what order should I read the books?

A – The Inspector David Graham cozy mysteries can be read, and enjoyed, in any order. The Case of the Screaming Beauty is a prequel to the other books in the series and, unlike the later books, is set on the mainland. All the books are complete mysteries.

I’ve made sure not to include any spoilers for those who are new to the characters and any existing fans of Graham’s adventures will still find plenty of fresh action and mystery as well as perhaps a few answers. All in all, there is something for everyone.

If you do want to read them in order, I’d suggest the following sequence:

– The Case of the Screaming Beauty (prequel)
– The Case of the Hidden Flame
– The Case of the Fallen Hero

Q – Why should readers give these books a try?

A – Because the Inspector Graham series is a gentle, but colorful romp through the wealthy but isolated English island, a place that is picturesque and peaceful but one filled with amoral and snobbish eccentrics with all kinds of vices.

Graham is a complex character who is intriguing from the get-go and yet evolves throughout the series while his sidekicks are worthy, interesting characters in their own right. We feature many English countryside rituals, institutions and customs in these stories.

Ultimately, readers who enjoy gentle pacing with a plot that twists and turns, features much fun, drama, quintessential British-ness, and, of course, small town murder all the way to the end will get a kick out of this series.

  1. Home by Uvi Poznansky

HomeAbout Home by Uvi Poznansky:

Home. A simple word; a loaded one. You can say it in a whisper; you can say it in a cry. Expressed in the voices of father and daughter, you can hear a visceral longing, in poems and prose, for an ideal place. A place never to be found again.

Imagine the shock, imagine the sadness when a daughter discovers her father’s work, the poetry he had never shared with anyone during the last two decades of his life. Six years after that moment of discovery, which happened in her childhood home while mourning for his passing, Uvi Poznansky presents a tender tribute: a collection of poems and prose, half of which is written by her, and half—by her father, the author, poet and artist Zeev Kachel. She has been translating his poems for nearly a year, with careful attention to rhyme and rhythm, in an effort to remain faithful to the spirit of his words.

Zeev’s writing is always autobiographical in nature; you can view it as an ongoing diary of his life. Uvi’s writing is rarely so, especially when it comes to her prose. She is a storyteller who delights in conjuring up various figments of her imagination, and fleshing them out on paper. She sees herself chasing her characters with a pen, in an attempt to see the world from their point of view, and to capture their voices. But in some of her poems, she offers you a rare glimpse into her most guarded, intensely private moments, yearning for Home.

  1. The Making of a Demon

themakingofademon_dellaloredoAbout The Making of a Demon:

For nearly 2,000 years, KAMÍL LANÁJ has lived in perfect harmony with her five siblings while reveling in her work of creating beauty. She’s never even heard the word, “sin,” and she can’t imagine doing anything that her creator-father, KING DOÚG, might disapprove.
When her elder brother and linkmate, LUSTANLI LANÁJ, circulates some exciting new ideas, she’s swept up in the thrilling possibilities. QUEEN DEBORA warns of danger, but Kamíl doesn’t know what to make of the warnings when her brother claims that the royal family regularly practices deceit. Horrified at the mere idea, Kamíl clings to the elder brother she loves so dearly.
The Making of a Demon examines the question of how holy angels, nurtured in an atmosphere of perfect love, could learn to hate–of how beings created for everlasting joy could choose a life of destruction and carnage. And we see that their destiny was probably altered in the same way ours is—one choice at a time.

The Watch is a short story about a thug travelling home on the train who picks the wrong victim. There was something strange about the guy, he wasn’t intimidated, and seemed just a little too willing to relinquish his antique watch.

It’s no ordinary watch. It’s haunted.

A moral tale, where crime definitely does not pay.

  1. Hot Shot: A Bad Boy Romance by Sophie Brooks

hotshotfinal-tinyAbout Hot Shot: A Bad Boy Romance by Sophie Brooks:

If you can’t stand the heat, stay out of Chef Bryant’s kitchen

He’s the hot-as-hell star of the hit cooking show, Kitchen Tyrant. He owns top-rated restaurants in London, New York, and Los Angeles. He’s stalked by the paparazzi and he dates supermodels.

His world is about as different as you can get from my small, Midwestern existence–but I’ve been in love with him for years.

Being chosen to compete on his show seemed like a dream come true. In person, Chef Bryant is even more delectable than I ever imagined and a damn good teacher. But an unexpected elimination leaves my dreams shattered. I felt like I let him down … and like I let myself down

Things begin to look up when he finds me in the studio after my final show. I knew Chef Bryant was strict and sexy, but I didn’t know how hot things could get in his kitchen.

But my happiness turns to fear when our amazing encounter is over. Are we only destined to share one night together? Or is there any way a small-town girl and a hot Hollywood chef can have a future together?

Hot Shot is a steamy romantic novella with no cliffhanger, no cheating, and a happy ending.

  1. First Friday: A Novel by Tory Hartmann

FirstFridayANovelAbout First Friday: A Novel by Tory Hartmann:

First Friday is rife with saints, sinners, Irish lore and visions of the Virgin Mary. Agnes Anne O’Neil, 28 and still living at home, prays to the Blessed Virgin to help her change her life. Agnes Anne tackles her problems one at a time—speech therapy for her stutter and shyness, a leap from the back office to the real estate sales floor, and with the money she’ll earn she’s planning surgery for her hooked nose and chin. She even has a pet snail—certainly a lucky talisman and symbol of her slow but steady progress. The lecherous moves of her brother-in-law continually ignite bad memories of a thwarted rape attempt in high school. Every first Friday of the month the family has a huge dinner and she has to see Bruno and relive the secret of that horrible night. Meanwhile, her sister Katie is unaware of the constant pressure Agnes Anne gets from Bruno, who seems to be obsessed with Agnes Anne’s virginity and innocence. When Agnes joins the sales force, meets a nice Jewish accountant and brings him home, all hell breaks loose. The night her mother Irene sees the Blessed Virgin in the gravy pan, and Auntie Lucy sees the BVM in her ice cube, it’s taken as a warning that Agnes Anne has fallen off the righteous path. Her mother continually insists Agnes Anne is making the Blessed Mother cry. Agnes Anne, however, prays for Saint Michael’s swift sword so she can metaphorically slay her tormentor, but the sudden death of her sister takes everyone’s breath away and Agnes Anne is convinced that Bruno had something to do with it.

He spent twenty years as a counselor in the Indiana Department of Corrections and has recently retired from the San Francisco Probation Department, where he was assigned to a domestic violence and stalking unit. James short stories have appeared in multiple journals and have received three Pushcart nominations. His first published novel, The Siege, depicts a hostage standoff in a penal facility. It has been published to critical acclaim. James’ second published novel, Call Me Pomeroy, chronicles the misadventures of a street musician who joins the Occupy Oakland Movement and its spin-off movements in London and Paris. He does not join for political reasons but to get on television, land an agent, and score a million dollar recording contract for Ants in My Pants, his marathon ditty. Grady Harp, Hall of Fame Reviewer, calls the book an instant classic.

  1. Portraits of an Artist: A Novel about John Singer Sargent by Mary Burns

PortraitsofanArtistANovelaboutJohnSingerSargentAbout Portraits of an Artist: A Novel about John Singer Sargent by Mary Burns:

John Singer Sargent was an enigmatic figure in his private life—he never married, but was intimate with many of the fin de siècle celebrities in Paris, London, Venice: Henry James, Oscar Wilde, Edward Burne-Jones, Sarah Bernhardt. In 1882, Sargent was twenty-six and rising rapidly to fortune and fame, especially in Paris—but by the end of 1884, he had retreated from the City of Lights, disgraced and grieving, to make a new home in London. During these years, Sargent produced what are considered to be his finest paintings, especially the Daughters of Edward Darley Boit and Madame X, haunting portraits with dark psychological depths that engage and puzzle the viewer. Mary F. Burns’ second work of historical fiction—Portraits of an Artist—imaginatively portrays the motivations and passions behind Sargent’s creative force and brilliant art.

Mary Burns’ debut historical novel “J – The Woman Who Wrote the Bible” was published in July 2010 by UK/US publisher O-Books. A second historical set in Paris, 1882, about the painter John Singer Sargent, titled PORTRAITS OF AN ARTIST, was published in 2013 by The Sand Hill Review Press. Most recently, Burns has started an historical mystery series–The John Singer Sargent/Violet Paget Mysteries–the first of which is The Spoils of Avalon, featuring Sargent and Paget as amateur sleuths whose mystery-solving is always connected to some further mystery from the distant past–so there are two time periods involved. A second line of novels are biblical, starting with “Isaac and Ishmael”, the first of three re-tellings of Old Testament stories. She has also written two cozy-village mysteries in a series titled The West Portal Mysteries (The Lucky Dog Lottery and The Tarot Card Murders) which is set in an old-fashioned neighborhood of San Francisco, and features amateur detective Cynthia Montrose and her lovable English bulldogs Roscoe and Kiwi.Ms. Burns was born in Chicago, Illinois, grew up in the western suburb of LaGrange, and attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, where she earned both Bachelors and Masters degrees in English; she also holds a law degree from Golden Gate University in San Francisco. 1. Isaac and Ishmael: A Novel of Genesis by Mary Burns

IsaacandIshmaelANovelofGenesisAbout Isaac and Ishmael: A Novel of Genesis by Mary Burns:

Isaac and Ishmael attempts to bring to human scale the legends and mythic dimensions of Abraham and Sarah, their sons Isaac and Ishmael, and Isaac and Rebecca’s twin sons Esau and Jacob. Readers will experience the struggles, competition, betrayals and loves of these brothers, fathers and sons caught up in the overarching tension between time and eternity, a place where a new God is coming into being—Yahweh, the uncanny, irascible, mischievous, bargaining God who participated in the life of a new people and compelled them to a new way of being human.

The stormy relationship of Isaac and Ishmael has long passed into a tradition which looks to Isaac as the father of the Jewish people, and Ishmael as the father of the Arab people, particularly in Egypt. Similarly, while Jacob carries on his father’s heritage, becoming the father of the Twelve Tribes of Israel, his twin brother Esau, the red-haired archer who sold his birthright for a bowl of lentil soup, is traditionally said to have departed for the North, and populated what would later become Rome. Isaac and Ishmael explores the thorny, complex yet delicate relations between these brothers and fathers, providing a more human understanding of the differences that arise between individuals and peoples, even now as the ancient tensions in the Middle East continue to flare up in modern confrontations and war. Ever present in the story are the strong, subtle and often ambitious women of Biblical legend: Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel and Leah.

Mary F. Burns brings a sense of poetry to her writing, which is rich in symbolism. She shows us the stark realities of a desert life, a people moving with the rhythms of nature—and the sturdy independence of the main characters who hear and yet dare to challenge the authority of a new god who walks with them, speaks to them, and promises a new kind of life in this world.

  1. The Berkeley Girl: In Paris, 1968 by Elise Miller

TheBerkeleyGirlInParis1968About The Berkeley Girl: In Paris, 1968 by Elise Miller:

Shy Janet McGill goes off to Berkeley in 1967 with her good grade point average and a boyfriend on campus. She doesn’t consider world events. Then comes total awareness of the Vietnam War. She watches in horror as her family celebrates her brother’s new military status. Her boyfriend Aaron Becker is draft deferred—as long as he stays in school—but his future has been dimmed. A feeling of doom permeates the college campus. On the verge of heartbreak, Janet joins some anti-war protests. When her parents see a photo of her in their hometown paper, Janet’s mother decides that the spring of 1968 would be a fi ne time to send Janet to Paris. Anything to get her away from those Berke-ley radicals! Little did the family know that Janet would run headlong into the 1968 May Revolution and disappear.
The Berkeley Girl: In Paris, 1968 brings to life the historical “Events of May,” in which over ten million French citizens were in-volved in the only student-worker-bourgeois alliance and “revolution” that a Western, capitalist democracy had ever experienced. Far from the distant and haunting City of Light, Aaron follows Janet’s journey through an intense and embattled correspondence. He witnesses her wrenching, transformative exploration of love, responsibility, and sacrifi ce, and then loses contact as her “safe” year abroad turns into a dangerous coming of age.

  1. Call Me Pomeroy: A Novel of Satire and Political Dissent by James Hanna

CallMePomeroyANovelofSatireandPoliticalDissentAbout Call Me Pomeroy: A Novel of Satire and Political Dissent by James Hanna:

Pomeroy, a towering street musician on parole, is out of the clink for the upteenth time and wants to become another Bob Dylan. With fame and fortune in mind, he heads to Occupy Oakland, hoping to get on television, attract an agent, and score a million dollar contract for Ants in My Pants, his marathon ditty. Pomeroy is a skirmish-loving, dumpster-diving, narcissistic crazy who thinks he can sing like Pavarotti and that all women want to jump his bones. His parole officer, a street-smart Hispanic woman, tells Pomeroy to quit looking at her alligator pumps and to get himself a real plan. But Pomeroy has schemes of his own and more wisdom than we’d like to admit. You may find his egocentric opinions politically incorrect. (“There ain’t a dyke alive ol’ Pomeroy can’t turn straight.”) You may find yourself laughing when you shouldn’t. (“A good strong piss is better ’an sex. Lasts longer too.”). But don’t blame yourself if you start rooting for this anti-hero. You’ll have lots of company. (Note: Adult language and situations).

Author Bio:
James Hanna wandered Australia for seven years before settling on a career in criminal justice. He spent twenty years as a counselor in the Indiana Department of Corrections and has recently retired from the San Francisco Probation Department, where he was assigned to a domestic violence and stalking unit. His experience with criminal types has created fodder for his fictional characters. Editorial Reviews:Book Viral:Bringing a refreshingly original perspective to an old cliche, narcissism and delusion, makes for an outrageous read in Call Me Pomeroy by author James Hanna. Driven by a skewed sense of optimism, this is no fusty rendering of man pursuing fame and fortune with superfluous optimism, but a heady rollercoaster of a trip with Hanna cleverly orchestrating whiplash changes of mood and unexpected direction in a taut, superbly observed plot. Unashamedly egocentric and politically indelicate, Pomeroy has a disquieting edge that rarely feels deliberate. His character is undeniably parodic, but with an acerbic pen and deft dialogue this is Hanna capturing life at its unscripted best. A tale that goes beyond the longing and self-delusion that seems to typify Pomeroy’s testosterone fueled life and often belies the sophistication of Hanna’s narrative. It’s wonderfully glib at times, but Hanna’s dialogue is always spot on which in turn lends his particular brand of humor a decidedly laconic edge. Original, witty and shrewdly contemplative, Call Me Pomeroy certainly breaks the antihero mold. One of those books you will want to talk about, it marks a notable release for author James Hanna and is definitely recommended. Vine Voice:Laugh out loud funny yet so insightful, Call Me Pomeroy by James Hanna could easily end up a classic. Read it now before everyone else does. James L. Woolridge Empty Sink Publishing Book Review:Whether you’re new to Pomeroy or a long-time friend, I would recommend this collection to anyone who can handle a healthy dose of inappropriate humor mixed with satire of modern America. He is an allegory for so many things. But whether you search for meaning within the pages, or simply marvel at the brilliance of the characterization and the hilarity of the action, sit back and enjoy the ride. E. 1. Happiness Project: Self-help habits for Happy Life

HappinessProjectSelf-helphabitsforHappyLifeAbout Happiness Project: Self-help habits for Happy Life:

WARNING! Reading this book may lead you to happiness. Do you really want it?

When psychologists spoke to folks at nursing homes and hospices about the regrets they have had in their lives, almost all of them mentioned something that made them unhappy.
Some people wished they had spent more time with their families. Others wished they’d had better health during their lives. Even more wished that they’d taken that risky job, gone on that fun vacation, or married that unconventional girl.
Very few of the regrets expressed had anything to do with owning a plasma TV, or a bank account.
It turns out that the one thing people regret before they die is the fact that they missed an opportunity to become happier.
By reading this book, you will:
create habits to love yourself, live with passion, enjoy your life and be happy

reduce your stress and create freedom

reduce the barriers to happiness, such as: negative thinking, fear and anxiety, procrastination, unhealthy lifestyle

and live a fulfilling life with the people you love

Everything is possible, if only you make some changes now.
Don’t wait to be happy.
Seize happiness like an exuberant adventurer, because it is within your grasp. Seize it because it will make you healthier. Seize it because it will let you love people more.
But, most importantly, seize it today.
So what are you waiting for? Take this book and start creating your Happiness Now!

After she graduated from high school and got an acceptance letter from NYU, she realized that she would not like to go on in life without writing again. Ignoring her doubts, she went to school and started her career as accountant. She used her breaks to write, but as she progressed in school her breaks were smaller and she was too tired to write anything. Multiple times, she considered changing majors as she realized that writing was her true passion, but her parents insistence made her stay until graduation day.

After moving to White Plains to work for a prestigious bank, she met her coworker Richard. She found herself falling in love as she had never fallen before. They were meant for each other, as their friends said over and over. Just looking at them was enough to notice their love. Dana and Richard moved together after one year of dating and kept working together. Dana kept writing short stories in her free time.

The love she experienced brought a new element into Dana’s writing. She shifted from drama to romance and soon realized that she was meant to write this genre. With her husband support, ten years after graduating, Dana has decided to pursue a writing career. “It is never too late to pursue what you truly want in life,” she says. 1. False Prophet

11111About False Prophet:

False Prophet is a gritty insider’s confession and rant against the corruption of our legal system. The author practiced law in Indianapolis for 30 years. It’s also a love story about healing wounds and redemption.

Jack Ross loses his soul but finds redemption representing an evangelical African-American preacher. Jack’s downward spiral begins with his idealistic but doomed defense of his best friend and colleague. It becomes an existential crisis. His wife leaves. His partner is in alcohol rehab. Jack’s struggle to reclaim his professional standing and self respect is aided by a petty criminal and a hot young reporter. Jack sets out to right the wrongs done to his Christian prophet-client. The pursuit of justice turns up political conspiracy, real estate fraud, kidnapping, and murder. A high price is paid for the truth.

False Prophet reveals the seamy underside of local politics and the legal system in Indianapolis. But it also shows how white folks and African-Americans can worship and work together for justice. The love story is one of frustration and self-destruction, but ultimately understanding, reconciliation, renewed intimacy, and a baby.

Jeff Rasley practiced law in Indiana and the federal courts for 30 years. The legal case in the book involving the persecution of an inner-city preacher and his fight to hold on to land it took him 20 years to purchase is inspired by one the author handled. Characters and events are fictional, but based on Rasley’s experience of representing clients ranging from Fortune 500 CEOs to crooks and crack heads — the silk stocking and seamy under belly of law practice in Indy.

  1. Fatal Attraction : The True Story of Carolyn Warmus by Susan Butler

FatalAttractionTheTrueStoryofCarolynWarmusAbout Fatal Attraction : The True Story of Carolyn Warmus by Susan Butler:

Carolyn Warmus is the real life version of the Glenn Close character depicted in “Fatal Attraction” as she stalked and murdered the wife of a man whom she obsessed over.
She was 25 years old at the time of the murder in 1989, and 28 when she was convicted in 1992 after two trials.
Neighbors and acquaintances, from her time in Michigan and from her time in New York, described her as pleasant and sunny. One was quoted as saying she was the kind of girl you could take home to Mom.
People who knew her better said that her big grin hid an emotionally disturbed, needy, often depressed, and occasionally suicidal individual.
In her 20’s, blond, wide-eyed Carolyn had a sexy personality, a great figure, and dressed expensively and fashionably. She turned heads. Her employers described her as cheerful and very competent.
She had also begun obsessing over a string of older unavailable men and, by the time of the murder, had a long history of bizarre behavior—some of it criminal—in relation to these romantic entanglements.

“Everything in life is one way or another created by thoughts, ideas. The thoughts can be chaotic and wild and create a lot of pain and trouble, or they can be organized to the last minute detail and make something beautiful and perfect. Your life has its structure. It is composed of things that are happening in it. All those events are reflections of your intentions. Things and occurrences are shaped according to your thoughts. Is there some confusion in your life? There is likely confusion in your mind. Are you experiencing joy, peace and beauty? Well, then the same are your wishes.”

Author Bio:
Nowadays he lives in the United Kingdom, but he was born and grew up in Prague, the capital of communistic Czechoslovakia. There he experienced irrationality and suppression usual for that type of culture that he could not accept. Although the teachers at school appreciated essays he wrote when he was ten, his story telling talent was not yet recognized. He began to take writing more seriously when he was sixteen and composed his first poems, short stories and later also screenplays. As a teenager he was also playing guitar and singing; dreaming to become a rock music star. When he was twenty-three, he became an editor of a local magazine. Writing was no more just a hobby or whim; he started to accumulate professional experiences. But he was dissatisfied with his works and four years later decided to stop writing and devote his time and effort to humanitarian projects. It became more and more apparent to him that human problems originate from insufficient knowledge and lack of intelligence. He studied a lot and began to administer counseling to help people to overcome suppression and increase their mental abilities. He also translated the materials, which he was using and soon became a professional translator and interpreter. After several years of translating from English to Czech, he traveled to India and South Africa for long-term humanitarian projects, where he spent altogether more than five years. There he provided counseling and delivered talks on self-improvement. While helping people with their personal problems, he encountered and had an opportunity to study first-hand paranormal phenomena, especially telepathic communications and past lifetimes experiences. More important was that he gained extraordinary spiritual knowledge and found multiple ways how to help others to live better, happier and more fulfilling lives. This knowledge he wants to share in his books and articles. Eventually, after many years of traveling and educating himself, he has settled in England and started to write again. He wrote few short stories and gave them out to his friends and relatives who found them not only exciting but also containing valuable principles that could be used by readers for their immediate benefit. From this success, the next logical step was to take his books, stories, and articles and publish them. He is doing all this work because he wants to be helpful and useful for his readers.

That is why once I grew up and started to live apart, I immediately take my first Labrador Retriever Pitt. It was he who taught me the secret of true friendship and the secret of not being a lazy-ass.

Later I’ve got a whole bunch of cheerful friends: a little Maltese twins Pixie and Dixie, a good soul Bingley Terrier Oscar, and the youngest one – Jack Russell Candy. I love them all, but they are so different, so at the one fine day I realized that I have no idea what to do with them. And how to control my own home gang.

I spent a lot of time and developed my own technique of how to cope with my lovely dog bullies. I went through successes and failures, picking up the tricks and techniques that would be suitable for the nature of the different dogs. So now I can guarantee that in my book you will find all the necessary tricks and hacks to train your dog, whether it’s big a small, young or mature.

I lead an active lifestyle and recently became very fond of the latest applications such as Pokémon go. Together with my faithful dog band we have a lot of fun catching the Pokémon’s in the neighborhood.

E. Branden Hart, Executive Editor

AMONGWOLVESChildrenOfTheMountainBook12About AMONG WOLVES (Children Of The Mountain Book 1) by R.A. Hakok:

There’s only one place left that’s safe.

It’s the last place you should be.

Gabriel remembers the Last Day. He and Mags had been on a tour of the White House with the rest of Miss Kimble’s first-graders when it happened. They fled with the President to a long-abandoned bunker, even as the first of the bombs began to fall.

Ten years have passed, and now Gabriel is almost grown. He still lives deep inside the mountain, waiting for the world to thaw. But outside the storms continue to rage, and supplies are running low. The President says it will be okay, because they are the Chosen Ones. But Gabriel isn’t so sure. Gabriel’s their scavenger, and he’s seen what it’s like out there.

Then one day Gabriel finds a bloodstained map. The blood’s not a problem, nor are the frozen remains of the person it once belonged to. Gabriel’s used to seeing dead bodies. There’s far worse to be found in any Walmart or Piggly Wiggly you care to wander into.

Except this one he recognizes, and it shouldn’t be all the way out here. Now all Gabriel can think is how he’s going to make it back to the bunker and let the President know what he’s found.

But Gabriel’s troubles are only just beginning. For things are not as they seem inside the mountain, and soon he will face a much larger problem: how to get Mags and the others out.

Just $0.99 for a limited time.

We’re thrilled to announce that this Amazon bestseller is also a B.R.A.G. Medallion winner!
After suddenly receiving custody of his five year old son, Ben must learn how to be a dad. The fact that he’d even fathered a child was news to him. Not only does this mean restructuring his sixty-hour workweek and becoming responsible for another human being, but also Kyle has autism.

Enter the school system and a shaky beginning. Under the guidance of a gifted teacher, Ben and Kyle take tentative steps to becoming father and son.

Teacher Melanie Nicols sees Ben as a deadbeat dad, but grudgingly comes to admire how he hangs in, determined to learn for his son’s sake. Her admiration grows to more as father and son come to rely on Melanie being a part of their lives.

When parents receive the news that their child has autism, they spend countless hours researching the subject, usually at night, after an exhausting day. Teachers, when they hear that they’ll have a student with an autism spectrum disorder, also try to learn as much as they can. This novel was written for such parents and teachers – an entertaining read that offers information on autism and strategies that work.

Bonus Section
At the back of the book are links and references useful to parents and teachers.

I loved this book from beginning to end – Just plain awesome
I could feel the author’s passion – What a great way to learn about autism
“Entertains, entrances & educates: 3 for the Price of One!”
“This wonderful book is about a Dad, Ben, meeting his autistic son Kyle for the very first time, when Mom dumps him suddenly on his doorstep, saying she can no longer take care of him. Through the eyes of Ben, we get a glimpse of both the challenges and joys of being a parent of a child who sees the world in different ways.”
“Unlike some stories that speak of autistic children, this one brings a wealth of hope and information! As we look over Ben’s shoulder, we see a glimpse of the learning tools currently being used in the classroom today, and we get glimpses of things that could be helpful in the day to day life of an autistic child.”
“I appreciated this story on several levels. First I enjoyed the story of Ben discovering what it means to be a parent, especially a single parent. Second, I enjoyed watching Kyle find his own means of success in this new and upside down world. ”
“I enjoyed the glimpse into classroom life and options available today. Finally I enjoyed the quiet romance between Mel and Ben.”

Author Bio:
Dr. Sharon A. Mitchell has worked as teacher, counselor, psychologist and consultant for several decades. Her Masters and PhD. degrees focused on autism spectrum disorders and helping kids to reach as high a level of independence as possible.

One in sixty-eight American children have an autism spectrum disorder and one in every forty-two boys. Every teacher will have a child with autism in their classroom. Every coach will meet a child with autism. If autism has not touched your family, it will affect your friends or neighbors.
When parents receive the news that their child has autism, they spend countless hours researching the subject, usually at night, after an exhausting day. There is a lot of information out there, much of it by competent authorities. But after a hard day of work and family responsibilities, who wants to read a textbook?

What if you could just read a good story and still gain ideas to try? Yes, life with autism has it’s struggles, but there are strengths as well and the fun parts that any family experiences.
So, the novel “Autism Goes to School” was born – a story about a single dad doing the best he can with his five year old son. The book’s full of the challenges inherent in autism plus strategies that make life easier for all concerned.

It’s followed by Autism Runs Away. When six year old Ethan gets overwhelmed, he flees blindly. One school has already asked him to leave, fearing that they can’t keep him safe. Will his new school be up to the challenge?

Book 3 in the series, Autism Belongs, is about Manny and his family. Manny is nonverbal and as he has grown, so does his level of aggression. His parents cope the best the can, remaining cocooned in their home, tiptoeing around their son. When he’s invited to go to school, his parents can’t believe that he’d belong.

In Autism Talks and Talks, Karen is a highly verbal 12 year old who find social situations hard. Join the kids and staff of Madson School as they learn and grow and welcome others with special needs into their midst.

The fifth book in the series, Autism Grows Up, shows what life too often becomes for high functioning young adults on the spectrum, and ways to make positive changes.

  1. The Spoils of Avalon: A John Singer Sargent/Violet Paget Mystery by Mary Burns

TheSpoilsofAvalonAJohnSingerSargentVioletPagetMysteryAbout The Spoils of Avalon: A John Singer Sargent/Violet Paget Mystery by Mary Burns:

The death of a humble clergyman in 1877 leads amateur sleuths Violet Paget and John Singer Sargent into a medieval world of saints and kings—including the legendary Arthur—as they follow a trail of relics and antiquities lost since the destruction of Glastonbury Abbey in 1539. Written in alternating chapters between the two time periods, The Spoils of Avalon creates a sparkling, magical mystery that bridges the gap between two worlds that could hardly be more different—the industrialized, Darwinian, materialistic Victorian Age and the agricultural, faith-infused life of a medieval abbey on the brink of violent change at the hands of Henry VIII and Thomas Cromwell. First in a new series of historical mysteries, The Spoils of Avalon introduces two unlikely detectives and life-long friends—beginning as young people on the verge of making their names famous for the next several decades throughout Europe and America: the brilliant and brittle Violet Paget, known as the writer Vernon Lee, and the talented, genial portrait painter John Singer Sargent.

She has also written two cozy-village mysteries in a series titled The West Portal Mysteries (The Lucky Dog Lottery and The Tarot Card Murders) which is set in an old-fashioned neighborhood of San Francisco, and features amateur detective Cynthia Montrose and her lovable English bulldogs Roscoe and Kiwi.

  1. Replacement Children: The Unconscious Script by Rita Silverman

ReplacementChildrenTheUnconsciousScriptAbout Replacement Children: The Unconscious Script by Rita Silverman:

The loss of a child is one of the most devastating events that can occur in a family. Unresolved parental grief can manifest in the lives of subsequent children, those born after a child dies, or becomes incapacitated, or in an older child whose life is redirected as a result of the loss of a sibling, or even in the case of some adopted children. Replacement Children refers to the experience of individuals who carry the weight of having to fill the void left by the loss. Parents struggling to cope may unknowingly burden another child with the expectations of healing the family. The replacement child experience can be the underlying, and often missed, explanation of a host of emotional issues. However, the challenges that replacement children face may also serve as a catalyst for unlocking a rich creative potential, talents and resourcefulness.
Replacement Children: The Unconscious Script by Rita Battat Silverman, a replacement child herself, and respected psychiatrist Abigail Brenner, M.D., offers the best of the available research combined with compelling personal stories that illustrate this widespread syndrome. A variety of famous accounts, such as those of Katharine Hepburn and Vincent Van Gogh, help to address the myriad of personal challenges.
This groundbreaking book provides a new understanding of how best to navigate the complex issues and familial circumstances that inadvertently and unconsciously created the replacement child syndrome. With a poignant, beautifully written foreword by Katie Couric, Replacement Children: The Unconscious Script provides vital information and sheds much needed light on this widespread phenomenon.

The realization of the impact on her life came to her as an adult during a chance conversation. Upon exploring the subject for many years, she realized that there was a serious lack of consciousness about this experience and the impact it has on a family. 1. When You Come Home: The True Love Story of a Soldier’s Heroism and His Wife’s Sacrifice by Nancy Pitts

WhenYouComeHomeTheTrueLoveStoryofaSoldiersHeroismandHisWifesSacrificeAbout When You Come Home: The True Love Story of a Soldier’s Heroism and His Wife’s Sacrifice by Nancy Pitts:

“Daphne Cavin’s poignant story of love, loss and sacrifice was one of the most memorable I encountered in writing The Greatest Generation. Her daughter now completes the story with this very heartfelt book.” – Tom Brokaw

Based on the World War II experiences of Daphne Kelley Cavin, first published in Tom Brokaw’s The Greatest Generation.

The war claimed Daphne Kelley’s young husband’s life, but it couldn’t keep Raymond – and his abiding love – from being with her when she needed him most.

First glimpsed in Tom Brokaw’s landmark bestseller, The Greatest Generation, the true-life love story of Daphne and Raymond Kelley went far deeper than Brokaw’s feature could reveal. Now When You Come Home provides the complete account of what New York Times book reviewer Michael Lind cited as “perhaps the most compelling” love story in Brokaw’s book.

Taking its title from a poem newlywed Daphne sent her soldier husband during World War II, When You Come Home tells of their young love in the heartland at the brink of war, and of the crushing uncertainty and fear as they find themselves a world apart. And when the poem comes back to Daphne – blood-stained by Raymond’s mortal wounds – When You Come Home shares the extraordinary event that restores the grieving young widow’s faith in the transcendent power of love.

“You start reading Healing the Dead with a gasp and never get a proper chance to exhale.”

When David captures the accidental shooting death of his best friend on film, the Sykes family is torn apart by guilt, isolation and a terrible inability to love. Who to blame? Who can save them?

One by one, each must confront the emotional debris that threatens to break through their carefully constructed defenses.

Love offers the only salvation.

Amateur or ham radio is a form of two-way communication where radio frequencies and a medium are used to talk to others. Through these frequencies, people could communicate across a state, the world, or even outer space. It started as a hobby but now, people use it even during emergencies. Because of this valuable contribution to the community, the US government created a department that issues licenses to people who would want to become a ham.

The department monitors these transmission activities so that the hams would not interfere with the radio signals used by the government. This government department creates unique call signs to identify ham operators. Today, more than 600,000 U.S. residents and around 2 million worldwide are licensed amateur radio operators. Even those who work for the government such as astronauts, pilots, and police officers use ham radio to contact their co-workers and to send distress signals during emergencies.

This book consists of key concepts in radio communication, which you can use to operate and start communicating with other people who are also into this hobby. This book should serve as a sufficient guide, especially if an Elmer in your place is not available to lend a hand.
