My journey as a writer began with my stillbirth in 1994. I was born with a host of problems. My family never gave up on me. For the first few years of my life I was in and out of hospital attached to a drip and unable to do anything but sit and listen as a stream of loved ones sat and read book after book to me. At the age of seven I was officially excluded from needing schooling as doctors and educators believed I would never have the capacity to learn to read or write.
Thankfully my parents decided to do everything in their power to give me the best possible life. My mom decided to home-school me and my two younger sisters. Within a couple of weeks I could read and write; and while my handwriting and maths left a lot to be desired I loved to read. I read The Lord of The Rings trilogy by the time I was 10 and lost myself in the eerie creepy worlds of the best of authors.
During my 11th grade exams, back in 2012, I had to write a composition for my English exam and found the process to be… challenging. A few days after that, I started typing out some thoughts and ideas and quickly found that I’d written 15 pages. The months after were busy, I continued to write the story that I had started, I was preparing for my matric exams and my SAT exam, and I’d started horse riding lessons as well.
After I finished my GED and SAT exams, I took a gap year working full time at a local chain store and I started a course in journalism through the South African Writers College. I’d get up at 06: 30 a.m. and have coffee while I got dressed, I’d leave the house on foot at seven, and work until four or five in the evening. Then I’d still have to work on my course for two or three hours to keep up with full time learners – quite a gap year!
The following year I dedicated myself to full time studies. I completed another two courses in journalism, and had an article published in the SA Writers College Times before moving on to a course in novel writing. Presently, I’ve been featured in my town’s local newspaper, started my fifth course with the SA Writers College, and I’m doing a course in teaching English Second Language and another in Copy-editing and Proofreading.
When I’m not writing, I spend time reading, listening to music, or watching films, series, and anime. I go horseback riding and I also train in the Korean martial art of Taekwondo twice a week.

Kerry was born in Kent (UK) with ENT problems and although operations allowed her to hear she still suffers from rhinitis. Kerry also suffered from mental health concerns due to having bipolar, OCD and epilepsy. After school, whilst expecting her first child, she taught herself her A-levels and passed with As and Bs. Kerry, determined to find a way to live life to the full, developed a portfolio of life experiences. Q – So, what makes the Diana Hunter series special?
A – When I set out to write these books, I wanted to create something that mirrored exactly the kind of books I like to read. My top picks are always mystery novels, especially featuring female protagonists with attitude. Diana is badass and I can’t tell you how many readers tell me she reminds them of themselves. She makes you feel you can do anything!
The Diana Hunter books are a great mix of genres. There is nothing graphic or gratuitous in these books. Your Aunt Martha could definitely read them. But they are not “roses around the cottage door” –type mysteries. They are more hard-boiled with some romantic tension, suspense and thriller action to keep things interesting!
Overall, the Diana Hunter series is designed to keep you turning the pages – and I’ve made sure there’s never a dull moment.
Q – In what order should I read the books?
A – The Diana Hunter mysteries can be read and enjoyed in any order, however, Hunted is a prequel to the other books in the series. Unlike the other books, it is not a complete mystery. It relates the events that create the backdrop to the series and fills in some of Diana’s personality and motivations. You don’t have to have read the prequel to make sense of the later books but it helps.
I’ve made sure not to include any spoilers for those who are new to the characters and any existing fans of Diana’s adventures will still find plenty of fresh action and mystery as well as perhaps a few answers. All in all, there is something for everyone. The events in this prequel take place a few years before Snatched, the first book in the Diana Hunter series of mysteries.
If you do want to read them in order, I’d suggest the following sequence:
– Hunted (prequel)
– Snatched
– Stolen
– Chopped
Q – So, why should readers give these books a try?
A – Because the Diana Hunter series is a fast, fun, thrill-ride that takes no prisoners! Our heroine is kicks butt but has a soft center. We want her to win out even when she’s making poor decisions and alienating those who can, and want, to help her. I think most women will see a little, or a lot, of themselves in Diana Hunter.
Ultimately, readers who enjoy lightning-fast pacing with a plot that twists and turns all the way to the end will get a kick out of this series.

Federal City’s Secret – Reader’s Favorite – In the pages of this book the reader will find a really fun and interesting tale about a magazine reporter who is over her head in a political investigation. Kelly Kaufman is a reporter, assigned to dig into a political figure who wants to run for president. When she doesn’t contact her mother for two weeks, Shawna calls the paranormal investigators. She has some shadows and such in her apartment and uses this to bring them to D.C. Now Marie Bartek is the head of the paranormal group that consists of a few very interesting characters, including her heartthrob, Cory. They take the job. After the group takes care of the ghost at Shawna’s, she accepts the request to stay and work on the disappearance of Kelly. All goes well until she realizes that she brought more than just her group to D.C.–it seems that Demon B also accompanied her. Choosing to stay and find Kelly may cost them several lives: that of her mentor, Kelly’s and hers.
It is a very good paranormal story, in the same realm as “Ghost Busters”. I really enjoyed the telling and the tale. I consider it a must have in the library of lovers of suspense, romance, and paranormal investigation. “Federal City’s Secret” is well-done entertainment for a hot day at the beach or a lazy afternoon at the swimming pool. Robin presents a great story and characters. This is great reading for young adults to adults alike. You will really love this paranormal detective story that will keep you glued through to the last page. I loved it and believe that you will too.
Secret of Coffin Island: Reader’s Favorite –
Secret of Coffin Island is Book 4 in Robin Murphy’s paranormal mystery series, Marie Bartek and the SIPS Team. Dr. Marie Bartek and her fiance, Police Chief Cory Miller, have finally tied the knot. Their wedding festivities are interrupted, however, by the discovery of a headless corpse. While criminal investigations are, strictly speaking, Cory’s milieu, Marie and her team of psychic researchers have been instrumental in solving mysteries in the past, and she has already received visions that seem to pertain to the mystery at hand. Her mentor and friend, Myra, who had passed after suffering a heart attack, has continued her mentorship albeit from the other side, and Marie takes comfort from both her presence and her guidance. Marie’s also been asked to help with the case of Isabella, a young woman whose mother is concerned that she’s been possessed, but Marie quickly determines that Isabella is also a gifted psychic.
Robin Murphy’s paranormal mystery, Secret of Coffin Island: Marie Bartek and the SIPS Team, Book 4, is an exciting and well-plotted novel. While it’s the fourth book in the series, Murphy includes just enough background information to allow this book to be read on its own without giving away too much about the previous mysteries. I found myself enchanted by Sullivan Island and the ambiance of a beach community, and enjoyed the plot’s historical connection to Edgar Allan Poe’s The Gold Bug. The author also gives a valid working picture of a psychic investigation team at work as well as having the husband/wife team working together on the case. Secret of Coffin Island is an interesting and quite effective blend of the paranormal and the police procedural genres that works marvelously. Her main character’s idea for a retreat for psychic youth is inspired and gives the series a sense of continuance, and Isabella’s pivotal role in this story makes it fresh and compelling. Secret of Coffin Island: Marie Bartek and the SIPS Team, Book 4 is highly recommended.

Word2Vec and GLoVe
Word2Vec is a set neural network algorithms that have gotten a lot of attention in recent years as part of the re-emergence of deep learning in AI.
The idea that one can represent words and concepts as vectors is not new. The ability to do it effectively and generate noteworthy results is.
Word2Vec algorithms are especially interesting because they allow us to perform arithmetic on the word vectors that yield both surprising and satisfying results. We call these “word analogies”.
Some popular word analogies Word2Vec is capable of finding:
“King” is to “Man” as “Queen” is to “Woman”.
“France” is to “Paris” as “Italy” is to “Rome”.
“December” is to “November” as “July” is to “June”.
Not only can we cluster similar words together, we can make all these clusters have the same “structure”, all by using Word2Vec.
Word2Vec was created by a team led by Tomas Mikolov at Google and has many advantages over earlier algorithms that attempt to do similar things, like Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) or Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI).
In this book we cover the GLoVe algorithm, which is an alternative to Word2Vec that both runs faster and yields superior results. It was invented by the guys at Stanford, who have created and published many NLP tools throughout the years that are now considered standard.
I show you both their derivations in math, and how to implement them in code. We’ll do 3 different versions. The first version will show you how to solve the problem with vanilla gradient descent and Numpy. The second version will show you a simpler way of doing gradient descent using Theano’s automatic differentiation capabilities. The third version will make use of techniques found in recommender systems and matrix factorization. In fact, I devote an entire chapter to showing you how to use matrix factorization to recommend movies to users. We then take the main algorithm for solving matrix factorization problems, called alternating least squares, and apply it to solve GLoVe.
Amazingly, all the technologies we discuss in this book can be downloaded and installed for FREE. That means all you need to invest after purchasing this book is your effort and your time. The only prerequisites are that you are comfortable with Python , Numpy, and Theano coding and you know the basics of deep learning.

Much like how IBM’s Deep Blue beat world champion chess player Garry Kasparov in 1996, Google’s AlphaGo recently made headlines when it beat world champion Lee Sedol in March 2016.
What was amazing about this win was that experts in the field didn’t think it would happen for another 10 years. The search space of Go is much larger than that of chess, meaning that existing techniques for playing games with artificial intelligence were infeasible. Deep learning was the technique that enabled AlphaGo to correctly predict the outcome of its moves and defeat the world champion.
Deep learning progress has accelerated in recent years due to more processing power (see: Tensor Processing Unit or TPU), larger datasets, and new algorithms like the ones discussed in this book.

Mark Green was born in Brighton, England in the late eighties. He grew up in Portslade, a small town along the southern coast. A creative child, Mark would involve himself in anything that perked his interests, including acting in plays, in which he often took the role of lead villain (such as the Sheriff of Nottingham and Iago the Ancient), studying martial arts, singing, voice acting, painting, and in the last decade, writing novels and comics.
Mark’s interest in writing first began after his first national TV appearance when he was eleven years old. Entering a writing competition run by the Brighton festival, Mark would win with his haiku poem and was interviewed by the BBC (Meridian) as part of BBC’s coverage of the Brighton Festival.
During his teenage years, Mark (under the alias “NexusDarkworld”) spent his time writing amateur stories which were available to read online. After five years writing for fun, Mark began to consider going professional, though it wasn’t until after finishing college at the age of eighteen, that he began that goal in earnest. Working long hours during the day in a specialist menswear shop, Mark would then spend his nights writing manuscripts to send to publishers as well as self-publishing to sell at conventions and book fairs. Mark averaged sixteen to eighteen hours work per day over a period of six years whilst balancing the two roles.
Mark was published with Author House at the end of 2014, and had his debut book signing in Los Angeles, at the World book fair, Grey Faction book 1 ran out in less than an hour.
Mark has now published over six books and several comics, including; Grey Faction, the Scalpel Murder, Riverside Mysteries, Detective Michael, Melodies of a Madman, Thirteenth Retribution, Jinhai’s Justice Comic, Nexus Comic, and co-authored Vampire Attack with game creator Andre Duggan.
