I started writing when I was nine years old. I would sit down with several sheets of paper and pen a “picture book” with drawings and text, then tape them all together (I guess I was too young to be allowed staples) and give them a title. I even gave them a publishing company name. By middle school, my disability earned me the status of being one of “those kids” who was bullied, spat on, name-called and kicked around. To escape, I sat in the back of the class and wrote short stories about rock stars and horses. Most of my stories were paranormal or fantasy (one that I wrote when I was 15 years old, is now a full novel called Beyond Every Mirror, not yet published, but hopefully soon). In 10th grade, I quit school, got my GED and went to college.
The first novel I wrote (a romantic thriller) wasn’t very good, but I didn’t know that at the time. I was asked for the completed book by several editors and agents in NYC and their rejections made me start to really look at my writing and compare it to other (published) books!
I started writing non-fiction then, as I had heard “write what you know.” I knew almost everything about cats, so I wrote a cat care book. In the meantime, I did have a few articles published, one in a world-renowned magazine (ironically, Dog Fancy). It took years of rejections and rewrites, but my cat care book finally made it into the realm of traditional publishing (which is a story in itself). For several years I was handed nonfiction book assignments by various publishers, but that eventually came to an end when others caught on and books under my topic became commonplace (but I was the first!! lol)
Two years ago, I had completely redone and “revamped” one of my old novels. I sent it out to an agent I had met at a local writer’s conference. She wrote back about 2 months later saying she LOVED it, loved my writing, said, “oh my goodness, you are talented!” (her direct quote, to add a little brag in there ;-), BUT, she said the market is “over-saturated.” I am still looking for an agent or publisher for that book.
In the meantime, I decided to tear apart another book I had written back in the ’90’s and make diary entries, (not like “Vampire Diaries,” adult with a format that’s fresh and new, a plot that’s different, but with enough traditional to appease all vampire fans). I gave each character their own book and I planned that this series I would SELF publish, which would be a first for me. And so, now there is “Sands of Time: Fate of the True Vampires,” and this is only the beginning of a really cool series.
During the day, I work at a horse barn caring for my horse and boarder’s horses. During the nights I write!

Judith Fabris is a native Californian, product of an all-girl high school, graduate of San Jose State University with a B.S. degree and also holds a law degree. She grew up in Glendale and Pasadena, California. Her professional career was in the securities industry and since brokerage firms didn’t send “girls” for training, she burned the midnight oil to study. When she originally received her brokerage license, she broke through the glass ceiling to become one of only 1,200 women in the United States to achieve that status. She passed and held all the necessary licenses to manage or own a brokerage firm.
Along the way, she’s been a managing editor of two magazines, a stringer for “Copley News Service” and an article writer and columnist for numerous magazines. Like Markov models, Recurrent Neural Networks are all about learning sequences – but whereas Markov Models are limited by the Markov assumption, Recurrent Neural Networks are not – and as a result, they are more expressive, and more powerful than anything we’ve seen on tasks that we haven’t made progress on in decades.
In the first section of the course we are going to add the concept of time to our neural networks.
I’ll introduce you to the Simple Recurrent Unit, also known as the Elman unit.
We are going to revisit the XOR problem, but we’re going to extend it so that it becomes the parity problem – you’ll see that regular feedforward neural networks will have trouble solving this problem but recurrent networks will work because the key is to treat the input as a sequence.
In the next section of the book, we are going to revisit one of the most popular applications of recurrent neural networks – language modeling.
One popular application of neural networks for language is word vectors or word embeddings. The most common technique for this is called Word2Vec, but I’ll show you how recurrent neural networks can also be used for creating word vectors.
In the section after, we’ll look at the very popular LSTM, or long short-term memory unit, and the more modern and efficient GRU, or gated recurrent unit, which has been proven to yield comparable performance.
We’ll apply these to some more practical problems, such as learning a language model from Wikipedia data and visualizing the word embeddings we get as a result.
All of the materials required for this course can be downloaded and installed for FREE. We will do most of our work in Numpy, Matplotlib, and Theano. I am always available to answer your questions and help you along your data science journey.

Living in Virginia was absolutely life changing for me and helped me understand that there is a vast amount to learn and enjoy all around.
One thing that I am very proud of achieving and one of my biggest accomplishments is becoming fluent in a second language. At the age of 19, just out of high school, I started studying Spanish daily through personal and group study. I began applying the things I was learning in practice conversations with other people who spoke Spanish. In only 9 months I was confident enough and comfortable enough to converse with native Spanish speakers. Even though I felt competent at that point I didn’t stop there. I have tried to keep the mindset that there is always room for improvement and I have worked consciously to keep that attitude in all areas of my life. I will do my best to stay physically and mentally active in life and I always want to make a cognizant effort to learn and stretch myself.

Child of the Baby Boomers. Wanna be Hippie, just could not afford the counterculture of drugs, psychedelic music, psychedelic art, and social permissiveness. I especially could not afford the flower covered van. The culture was alluring and rebellion of any form was espoused by hot blooded Americans. Many of us followed in our own fashion, leading to social invitations to see the world given by some law enforcement type person. I became a Veteran in the beginning of the Viet Nam era.
I was a brilliant teenager, which was both unknown and unappreciated by my superiors for three years, two months, and six days. I left the military with mixed emotions; Joy and Happiness.
Stationed in Seattle aboard the U.S.S. Staten Island AGB 5; Auxiliary Glacier Breaker. Ice breaker. Among other things I am a Mossback and Shellback thru Naval ritual of indoctrination when crossing the Equator. I have seen the two largest deserts in this world. Arctic and Antarctica. I have seen places you will never go or want to go. I shot and killed a water-buffalo while I was in southeast Asia. Long story and bad memories. While north of Alaska, I photographed jets passing, extremely close, over the forward deck of the ship that were not planes from the U.S Air Force. The film was confiscated. My experience in the service was as close to being a slave as a person can be without manacles. I was ‘volunteered’ to leave the Staten Island and board the U.S.S. Apache ATF 67 and went back north to Adak Alaska, an Island in the Aleutians. The one perk was Adak Island had a bowling alley.
I was decorated several times for my service; without ceremony and the conflict in Viet Nam was not a war. That is another long story.
My stomach was removed in 1980 and my life style changed. I became an over the road truck owner-operator for more than thirty years. I have seen our country from a different view than most ever will and seen parts of our world few will ever see. I have been on ships that traveled several weeks without sight of land.
Writing since 1990, when I could. Love the way a good story flows. Hate the time in between, when the flow of words stops. A good idea and a lot of hard work makes a good story line and an enjoyable book.
