The ‘Four Portals’ are a group of highly esoteric teachings setting forth the true nature of physical reality and techniques of powerful elemental magic, or sorcery, and are of extreme antiquity. The first extant traces of the teachings appear as part of the lore of the pre-Tibetan Zhang Zhung culture that arose on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau some 4000 years ago, but they are believed to have originated far earlier. Being an exceedingly restricted body of knowledge, said to convey enormous powers, the teachings disappear from the historical record for some 2600 years, not to reemerge until the 7th century AD in the arcane scriptures of the ancient pre-Buddhist B’on religion, as found in the Himalayan highlands of Tibet.
According to the ancient Zhang Zhung and pre-Buddhist B’on traditions, the teachings of the ‘Four Portals’ were formulated in 16,000 BC by the earliest known Buddha, Tonpa Shenrab Miwoche. Like Siddhārtha Gautama, our most recent historical Buddha, Shenrab renounced his life as a prince to become a monk, achieved enlightenment, and taught others how to attain the most elevated wisdom. The rare esoteric teachings of the ‘Four Portals’ contain enormous amounts of elemental sorcery, in keeping with their view of the cosmos as a psycho-physical unity, able to be manipulated in heightened states of awareness through clandestine techniques and practices.
These deeply esoteric teachings begin and end with a profound premise: “The Universe is but a mirage which exists in the mind, springs from it, is controlled by it, and sinks into it.”
To understand this premise in a contemporary context, we may consider the following remarks from the legendary physicist Max Planck, Nobel Prize winner, originator of Quantum Mechanics, and close associate of Albert Einstein: “As a man who has devoted his whole life to the most clear-headed science, to the study of matter, I can tell you as a result of my research about atoms this much: There is no matter as such. All matter originates and exists only by virtue of the existence of consciousness. The mind is the matrix of all matter. I regard consciousness as fundamental. I regard matter as derivative from consciousness.”

When J. A. Cipriano was in second grade, his teacher gave everyone in class a journal to write down whatever they wanted. Their first subject was to write about something they didn’t like. J. A. chose to write about why he didn’t like writing. His reasoning was simple. He had bad handwriting. Even then, he was destined to be an engineer due to his messy scrawl.
Unfortunately, he found through the course of this little adventure that he actually liked writing. That year was sort of the high point for his writing career because he won a writing contest for the state. He got to go to a big dinner and his teacher was all dressed up.
He kept writing little stories, year after year, and in sixth grade, won another contest. In seventh grade, he broke his arm and got the cast signed by both Dean Koontz and Stan Lee. It is, by far, the coolest cast he’s owned. That was about the time he found video games and anime. His writing turned mostly toward fanfiction until about ninth grade when he wrote his first novel, a small book about twenty thousand words called Revelations. In sophomore year, he wrote two more books to complete the trilogy because he saw Star Wars that year and learned trilogies were the cool thing to do.
He rewrote Revelations during his senior year, and his wife swears it is the best thing he’s written. J.A. is not so sure. Every time he reads it, he cringes, but then again, he hates everything he writes, so there is that.
It was about that time, he got heavily involved in a fanfiction writing group, but that isn’t one hundred percent accurate. It was a world based on a popular anime but everything was created especially for this world. It made it so that every story someone wrote was unique.
Imagine writing a Star Wars novel set 1,000 years after A New Hope, where everything that happened was a distant memory and you get the idea. You have the force, some distant memories of the past, and that’s pretty much it.
He wrote about a million words (863K to be exact) for them before he decided to do his own thing. He wrote another novel. He put it in a drawer. He wrote another one that eventually became the basis for The Hatter is Mad. His next novel was Kill It With Magic, his first real novel. It’s not bad, but it’s bumpy. This is unfortunate because the books get loads better as the series progresses.
Since then, he’s written six more novels, four of which are in the Lillim Callina Series, and one in the Abby Banks series. The other is stuck in a drawer for time undetermined. He’s writing his next book now which is about werewolves fighting mummies in Ancient Egypt. After that, he will move onto Abby Banks 2. The Spy Within will come out in June or July.
J.A. also has three chinchillas. Two of them are grey, and because of this, they are named Slate and Cadmium. The third is named Jet because he’s black, and Jet is old English for black. See, creative. He also has a cat named Turtle. This does pose problems for his two-year-old from time to time.

I have been dreaming about fictional worlds since I was a kid. I devoured anything related to fantasy and science fiction. The telling of my story has a distinct before and after quality to it. My life, before, was a love story. A Hallmark movie, with a couple of I Love Lucy episodes thrown in for good measure. Boy meets girl in high school, sweeps her off her feet and marries her. But after 41 years of love and laughter, the bottom fell out with the uttering of one little word: Cancer. My name is Sasha Reynolds. I was born and raised in Frederick, Maryland, and lived for many years in Knoxville, Tennessee. At the University of Tennessee, I designed an individualized major in criminology and correctional studies while minoring in cultural anthropology.
I later moved to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, where I obtained a Master of Social Work degree from the University of Alabama. While in Tuscaloosa, I began writing for regional history and arts magazines. Today husband and I reside in North Alabama.
I lived in Knoxville for twelve years before moving to Alabama in 1988. While I was a resident there, a 15-year-old girl, Michelle Anderson, went missing from the North Knoxville neighborhood in which I resided. My son had been a classmate of hers. After she disappeared, I had some marginal contact with a couple of persons related to her case. Not long after that I accepted a job offer in Alabama and moved away. But the case stayed with me.
It was nearly a decade later, as I watched one of the new forensic shows on television, that I finally learned of her fate. Her remains had been found outside Knoxville two years to the month after she’d gone missing. My old professor, Dr. Bass, led the team that excavated the site. He was featured on the show discussing the case.
Fast forward to 2007. I run into Dr. Bass when he is giving a talk in Guntersville, Alabama, about a new book he and his co-author, Jon Jefferson, have just published (Jefferson Bass, Harper-Collins). Obtaining his phone number, I call Dr. Bass concerning the old, very cold case of Michelle’s disappearance. He sends me his forensic report from 1989 and some additional materials. My investigative journey begins.
When that journey ends, seven years later, I have identified the man most likely to be Michelle’s abductor, serial rapist Larry Lee Smith, and I have gotten the KPD to re-open her cold case. My book, Similar Transactions, tells the rest of the story. It’s formatted as two books in one volume.

I am a writer and graphic designer. I see excitement in spaces where most people see only voids. I hear music in my head that has long since stopped. I cry secretly at certain tv commercials and wonder what God’s plan is for me.
My mother was a concert pianist. . . a child prodigy from Massachusetts. In 1919 the Boston Herald referred to her as, “a nine year old pianist extraordinaire.” She, too, heard music that others didn’t. She, too, wept at Pepsi commercials.
My father studied art and wrote love letters to Mom. . .letters that would have captured the heart of any woman. Sadly, though, that was during the depression and he was raised to reach for the golden ring, so he went to medical school to provide an “honest living” for his family. He forgot how to cry. He no longer heard the music. His paintbrush went dry.
So it was clear that someone in my family was going to catch the disease called creativitus stupiditus.
It was me.
I went to a traditional museum school of art, followed by a Big Ten University. Dad talked to me about the golden ring but my heart kept hearing and feeling the sounds that Mom heard.
I married an artist (www.joannritterfineart) and began working in advertising, the only place where I could scratch people who didn’t itch. I wrote ads, instructional booklets, television commercials. Also designed ads, trade show booths and set designs. Even wrote a few tv jingles and songs for Sesame Street. While I was working I wrote, filmed and edited, “Being Amish.” It was picked up by PBS and distributed for many years. After moving to Boston I started my own business providing creative services to companies. But like my father I felt compelled to chase the golden ring, sacrificing tummy bubbles and chills for a steady income. Oh me!
Several years ago I resumed the goose bumps of lost music, resurrected the grace of a curved line, thawed the hardness of my creativity and put my life in the hands of a power far bigger than anything I had ever imagined. Quietly.
I love to fly fish. The rhythm and grace of the process is beautiful. Delicate, soft and lethal. I’ve fished many waters in many countries. . .salt, fresh and murky. Caught some beautiful fish, so many that I don’t need to lie about it.

Really enjoyed this book. I’ve been reading nutrition books since I was in my early 20s and like how this book combines nutrition with advice on staying the positive path. In fact, I’ve never really seen a book like this designed to help people with a sober lifestyle choice which addresses the nutritional aspect. Having just turned 50 her mission statement really rang true where she said she wanted, “To live my fifties in an extraordinary way…”
I shall be trying the recipes and smoothies to support my heath. I shall also be recommending this book to friends who have talked about reducing their alcohol intake but found the depression and withdraw too difficult after a few days and never make it to the two week full detoxification where they would start to feel better. No doubt the support advice and nutrition would help them.

This was a good practical guide with effective tasks to help someone afflicted with addiction. It was very clear and concise with its actionable steps one through ten style. The author really focuses on enhancing your healthy living in a more curt, no-nonsense approach and the testimonials of well know people who also suffered the affliction was very inspiring. But the title and sub title for the book are misleading and I wasn’t surewhether ‘craving busting’ was related to some other topic or the topic of alcohol. Good content though and my favourite in this author’s series.
