I spent most of his life in sales, public transport and Traffic Management.
I managed traffic movements through and around major road work sites throughout Queensland. My last project was as Traffic Project Manager on the construction of the Gold Coast Light Rail throughout the City of Gold Coast.
After retiring to Queensland’s Sunshine Coast in 2014, I took in interest in researching my family. I discovered links back to the 1400’s and even a distant link to the Royal Family of United Kingdom.
During my research I discovered I had 6 relatives who fought in the Great War. I was familiar, with my relatives in the 2nd World War, but knew nothing about the men in his family who had fought in the Great War.
This research led me to write his first book “A Family That Went to War”
After I published the book I realised that this was not enough, so I settled down and commenced writing “An Australian Story – The saga of an Australian Family over two centuries”
In this I have included the stories of Australia’s early settlement and of the events that made Australia and the makings of a family.
I was amazed that I could write three books in less than 12 months, particularly as only recently I discovered that he had mild dyslexia all his life.
My Third book “The Ministry Communications Unit” is pure fiction based on a fictitious movie company set up by the Government during World War 2.
I have completed my latest book Lady at Bromfield and I hope to have it released by September 2016.

Hi Netta. Thank you so much for agreeing to answer some questions on my blog about your writing.
Hi Linda, thanks for having me.
Firstly, please could you tell me a little about yourself?
I’m originally from Manchester, England, but immigrated to beautiful New Zealand, eighteen years ago with my husband, three young sons and five suitcases. Before getting into writing I worked as an early childhood teacher and also a real estate salesperson.
I know you didn’t start writing seriously until your children left home, but when did you first realise you were going to be a writer?
I’ve always been interested in writing, but my parents brought me up with a practical outlook— it’s fine to have interests, but I would need a ‘proper’ job in order to put food on the table. This was correct, I guess—when the children were young we certainly needed two incomes to fund our lifestyle etc. But as soon as we could afford to lose my income, I didn’t hesitate. I’m fortunate that my husband fully supports my writing.
If you hadn’t become an author, what would you have done instead as a creative outlet?
I sing. Does that count? I’d never make a living from it, and I need a glass or two of wine to get the old voice box lubricated, but there’s nothing I love better than desecrating a few numbers. I also enjoy restoring furniture and interior design and decorating.
What drew you to the thriller genre as opposed to any other?
I love thriller novels. I’ll read most genres, but my true love has always been psychological thrillers. I love watching what happens to ordinary people when the shit hits the fan, and delving into the psyche of the characters
Deception is at the heart of many of your books. How far do you think deception is a usual human characteristic?
I’d say that varies person to person. Everyone is capable of deception if the situation demands it.
How do you go about researching detail and ensuring your books are realistic?
If there’s something I don’t know about, I’ll avoid going into too much detail, but, thankfully, with the internet, there’s very little you can’t become an expert on—within reason of course. I wouldn’t go into too much depth on something like rocket science or brain surgery.
Which aspects of your writing do you find easiest and most difficult?
The actual writing flows easily, so long as I have a general idea of the direction I want the story to go in. But I don’t plot, preferring to be as surprised by the plot twists as the reader is. However, I struggle with the tediousness of editing.
What are your writing routines and where do you do most of your writing?
I have an office, and for a while I forced myself to stick to office hours, but that didn’t last long. I’ll go into the office at around 9am and work until 5pm then after dinner will continue in front of the TV until bedtime.
I write, edit, critique and proof read, from waking in the morning to going to bed at night – I don’t have an off switch. Even if I go out with my hubby for the day, I take my laptop and continue while in the car. I drive him to distraction.
When you’re not writing, what do you like to read?
Thrillers, of course – and some horror novels so long as they’re not too far-fetched. I love Stephen King – he is my all-time favourite.
Do you have other interests that give you ideas for writing?
Just life. I can obtain ideas from anywhere – the news – the supermarket – the café – absolutely anywhere. Often an idea will start off as a tiny thought and morph into something bigger that just can’t be ignored.
Your novels have very striking covers. How do those images come about?
It takes me hours and hours of trawling through stock photos and, although I don’t have a clear idea what I’m looking for, I always know it when I see it.
If you could choose to be a character from one of your novels, who would you be and why?
I’d say Geraldine from The Crime Files series. She’s probably the most like me and yummy James Dunn would be a bonus.
If one of your Adam Stanley books became a film, who would you like to play Adam?
Without hesitation, Tom Hardy. I actually write Adam’s scenes with Tom in mind. Haha.
If you had 15 words to persuade a reader that a Netta Newbound book should be their next read, what would you say?

Prior to being told he had only five months to live by a Stanford medical specialist, he had believed he had life all figured out. Not having any religious or spiritual beliefs, he had thought that “He who dies with the most toys wins,” and by that standard he was doing very well. However, now facing death, he expected only oblivion. However, when he died, it wasn’t oblivion after all. His first book, “Dying to Really Live” is about the events leading up to his terminal diagnosis, his waiting to die, and what death was finally like. It also is about who was waiting for him in the afterlife and what he experienced while he was there. Then it covers the grief he encountered on his return to this world, after where he had just been. It also tells of his being take back to the afterlife and what he was shown, when he asked if there really was a hell. Next, he was asked to write twp more book on the assignments he was given to teach him the use of Inner Guidance. Currently the first book, “Dying to Really Live” is available on Amazon. The second and third books are finished and are soon to be published. When he had completed the lessons on inner guidance and his writing assignments, Frank and Amos knew he was ready to fulfill what he had been sent back to do; to locate the repository of ancient wisdom and write about. Who am I…?
I published my first book in elementary-Mystery of the Missing Tabby. The school library still has it, as far as I know. That was my first real work, and writing became priceless to me over the next years. In Jr. High, I had a teacher tell our class that none of us could match the classic authors that we would be studying. We weren’t good enough. I took that to heart and turned in an A- paper with a rookie mistake that prevented me from getting the respect I wanted from that lady. I hated it that she was right. I still do. I also adore her for waking my brain to the possibility that someday I could be as good as one of the iconic writers that helped frame the world of literature. I’ll never know if she did it intentionally or if she was just stating a fact, but it worked for me. I’ve never wanted to do anything else. Thanks to that drive, the fire she finished waking, I now live off my writing and run my own publishing company. I have more than a dozen novels out and thousands of fans. I have a long way to go before future children study me in schools, but I’m still just as hot for it now as I was in that stuffy, musty classroom in 7th grade.
So, that’s who I am. I am building, and living, the American dream. Who are you and what have you done?
That’s a hard question to answer if you’re still trying to get there. I understand. Here’s some free advice: Follow your dreams, even when the world says it’s crazy. Sometimes, you’ll find a life that satisfies you more than you ever thought was possible and it has nothing to do with cash or fame. Biography
Born in 1958, back before colour was invented and the world was still in black & white, I was raised in Ilford, Essex in the UK. I’ve been happily married since 1980 (honestly) and my wife and I boast three adult children and four exhausting grandchildren.
I have no particular genre that I write in, I’m driven more by the story than the world in which it takes place. Having said that, I have been fascinated by the American west since childhood, a result of watching too many John Wayne movies probably. This interest stayed with me into adult life and it was inevitable I should set my debut novel in the era of the Old West. I don’t consider The Little Sentinel of the Sierra Nevada as a western though, that’s just the time period and geographical location in which the story takes place.
As well as being a writer I am also an Artist, working predominantly with oil paints. As with writing, I find I can loose myself in the detail of a new world when painting, one that will lead me who knows where. The front cover of The Little Sentinel of the Sierra Nevada is one of my own works, depicting the narrator of the story, Sarah Harlan, as she stands above Donner Lake.
