Biography: Kathryn Lane
Originally from Mexico, I wanted to be a painter in oils but quickly changed to accounting and international finance after I discovered the path to painting lead to a starving artist existence.
To cement my ability to earn a living, I became a CPA and a CMA and worked for a multinational corporation where I traveled extensively for several years. After jetting to over 90 countries, I realized my travels gave me the opportunity to fulfill another passion – to write fiction. I find inspiration not only from my travels but also in the Latin American cultures and customs so familiar to me. If you read my short stories, you may find the occasional fusion between fantasy and reality, often layered with symbolism punctuated with occasional hints of surrealism.
My novel length fiction, by contrast to my short stories, falls into the mystery genre with romance interwoven in the story, as in Waking Up in Medellin published by Pen-L Publishing in March 2016. The protagonist Nikki Martinez, an American woman from Minneapolis, Minnesota, travels to Colombia in South America to investigate fraud. She uncovers far more than fraud and finds herself caught in a web of deception and life-threatening experiences.
My short stories are published in The Texas A&M New Border Voices (Anthology); Swirl Literary Journal, Lone Star College, TX; Arriba Baseball! from VAO Publishing and The Alamo Bay Writer’s Anthology, Alamo Bay Press.
The Association of Writing and Writing Programs (AWP) featured me as a reader on the panel of Arriba Baseball! at the Seattle conference in February 2014. I read and discussed my story, Baseball Over the Moon which appears in the anthology.
My poems appear in numerous publications, including Di-versé-city-The Austin International Poetry Festival Anthology; Primitive Archer Magazine-Poets Corner; Swirl Literary Journal and two chapbooks of poetry, A Conversation on India (with co-author and travel photographer, Brenda Gottlieb) and Spirit Rocks. The Friendswood, TX Public Library featured my poems when their Blog showcased the Rothko Chapel and Mark Rothko’s art.

Magee has an ear for political satire—besides the clever contemporary parallels, the writing is buoyant and genuinely funny. The relentless pace of the plot, and the gimlet-eyed gamesomeness, should keep the reader well entertained.

Shoes are my addiction, but books are my passion. I grew up with a love for reading. I read constantly. Probably too much some days. I read many genres of romance, but prefer to write sexy stories. I try to add some humor, and certainly my stories come with a side of those sinful pleasures your mom never told you about. Oh, and always a happily ever after.
I juggle a full time job and a family. Not always successfully. Clean house? Who needs one? And what’s wrong with cereal for dinner? I live in Ontario, Canada with my wonderfully supportive husband, three awesome kids who are growing up way too fast, and Rocky the bearded dragon.
Plenty of ideas are rolling around in my head all the time. So I can’t wait to write that next story.

I feel I should preface this with an apology because while I love creating pretend characters and my trademark is likely to be a heart wrenching introductory first-person prologue from my lead, I find describing myself quite tedious. Maybe I should have listened to what he didn’t say.My stories are contemporary character driven tales of normal every-day people and the challenges we all face in real life: love, friendship, parenthood, morality, mortality, compassion and faith. My favorite novels are those that reach down deep into my whole heart and soul, make me laugh, and cry. And those are the types of stories I want to write. Stories that touch people’s lives. I want my reader to feel better, be better, love better, because they read my words and took them to heart. Shaun met the love of his life in Poway, California at the age of three. At age four he moved to South Carolina, and he has not seen her since.
A writer at an early age, Shaun penciled out his first full length novel in middle school. He maintains against all contrary evidence that this is the greatest piece of fiction ever written by mortal man. To this date, he is the sole holder of this opinion.
In his sophomore year of high school, Shaun traveled with his father and grandfather aboard the research vessel World Discoverer to the far off continent of Antarctica. There were no reported casualties.
At age 20, Shaun was struck with CSD, which put him in a coma and hospitalized him for two weeks. Upon recovery, he traveled to Florida to live on his aunt and uncle’s horse ranch in the hopes of regaining his constitution. Shaun has since competed in two cage style Mixed Martial Arts competitions, and he is the proud victor of both events. He is an avid chess fan and active tournament player. I’m Dan Eitreim and I worked as a professional photographer running my own photo studio for over 20 years. I’ve never apprenticed or worked for any other photographers. Because of this, I’ve had to learn and develop my photography skills on my own.
My first attempts were dismal to say the least…so I studied, practiced and developed my photo skills and along the way I not only learned how to put the “wow” into my photos, but I’ve also learned how to teach others to do the same!
To that end I’ve compiled a 31 volume series of photo training lessons that I’ve titled: “On Target Photo Training”.

She didn’t like the way Jake leaned back and studied her. When he linked his hands behind his head, she couldn’t take her gaze off his muscular biceps and the width of his chest. Then he brought his booted feet up and crossed them on top of the desk. Ivy’s gaze followed the length of his legs and powerful thighs up to the front of his dusty jeans. There was no disguising the growing bulge behind his zipper.
Fire erupted through her. She’d never stopped loving him or wanting him. And she wanted him now. She’d been addicted to him since the moment they’d met four years ago. I wonder what he’d do if I walked around the desk and unzipped his pants. In the old days she would have had the nerve. “Well?”

One weekend? “I don’t understand. You know I can’t come up with that kind of money in one weekend.”
Laughing, Jake slammed his feet to the floor and leaned forward. “Come on, honey, you’re not stupid. But just in case you can’t read between the lines, let me clarify. I want one weekend.”
Her brows furrowed. “One weekend of what?”
