I wrote a dark fantasy whose purpose was to break with tradition, the narrative addressing more existential issues rather than the old and overused formula of evil against good. In Dagger, the struggle between good and evil is not clear, nor easily identifiable. It is a tormented process, internal to the protagonist, with an outcome that is difficult to predict. I do not sell pre-cooked messages to the reader. I decided to create a story with multiple interpretations.

Compelling Military Love Story
A week after watching the events of September 11, 2001 claim thousands of innocent lives, Jonathan Feldman, a 23-year-old Jewish-American from Chicago’s affluent Gold Coast neighborhood, decides to join the U.S. Army.
With no prior interest in the military, but feeling lost a year out of college, Jonathan feels compelled to be a part of something bigger than himself. Like many young soldiers at the time, he enlists with ambitions of saving the world from Muslim extremism and visions of hunting down the evil perpetrators of 9/11.
Those dreams are shattered when he is transferred to a remote base in Germany that is soon to be closing down and left forgotten by the American government. But what happens when Jonathan’s brother and friends visit for Oktoberfest that changes his one-dimensional existence forever.
It is at that time, when Jonathan is perfectly unprepared, destiny brings Ela, a beautiful Turkish Muslim businesswoman from Istanbul into his life.

Author Bio:
Jonathan was born and raised in Chicago. He is an avid storyteller, who always enjoyed sharing his tales and entertaining others around him. Jonathan was working toward his dream of becoming a writer when the events of September 11, 2001 occurred. About a week after the attacks, Jonathan joined the U.S. Army. Jonathan continued writing while in the Army, mostly coming of age plays.
Upon completing his tour, Jonathan came back home to Chicago and worked in variety of industries to include Real Estate, Accounting, and as an Executive at a major Retail Company. Feeling the urge to go back to his dream of storytelling, Jonathan began working part-time on Turka Bella in 2009. He believed it was important to share his experience in the Army and encourage others to step out of their comfort-zones to do something they never imagined possible for themselves.
Jonathan also looked back at the world of September 10, 2001 and hoped Turka Bella could help recover the innocence lost from that time. He believed that if he shared his story of love between a Jewish-American soldier and a Turkish-Muslim woman, it might encourage others to share their stories and eventually lead to the realization that for the most part, we are all the same.
