The author’s son was between four and five years old when he was diagnosed and going through chemotherapy and radiotherapy. It just doesn’t bear thinking about how awful this is-yet there are people going through this all the time. Being with her son at the hospital meant being separated for long periods from her other child who had to stay with a carer 230 miles away. It’s so hard. Add to that marriage ructions, arguments, lack of support of any kind from her family/mother and you just can’t imagine how it was for this lady. Unimaginable. She tells of hospital life, at her son’s bedside via entries in her journal at the time. How some people cope and still retain hope is incredibly inspirational. She now can appreciate the good she has had in her life, eg. her sons, even if she only had them a short time-and she now has a wonderful partner-she can see the difference as she’s experienced such bad times too. She’s a child in the 60s. She rushed into marriage with a man who was far from ideal to get away from abuse at home by her own mother. From one lot of abuse into another with a violent, drunk husband. This is such a heart-tugging book. It’s certainly not an easy read but you are carried along wanting to know more-how bad could it get, how many more things could be thrown at this woman and how would she ever get through them? The first part of the memoir was a more flowing style of writing then it jumps to where Eli is fighting cancer: These bits are told exclusively through diary entries. This section tends to be a bit repetitive sometimes but that reflects just what they’re going through-they have to do a lot of the same things every day, they’re in limbo, they don’t know if he’ll improve or not, it’s one long road of diagnostic tests, chemo, radiotherapy treatments and surgeries, blood test results daily etc. This is a very hard read. A very hard read indeed. One can only imagine the extent of the sorrow when something like this happens, when you’re right in the middle of it, going through it, living it. This is incredibly moving, you can’t fail to be touched intensely by the final scenes. There is a good, hopeful ending after all the anguish though. The author is certainly a survivor. With all she has gone through, wow, I have no words, her memoir speaks volumes.

It is March, 1649, the end of winter in an English colony that resembles Massachusetts. Simon Willoughby, who has governed the colony for most of its 19 years, comes home from his first trip away after recovering from a winter illness. The challenge he wanted — perhaps his final one — looms in front of him.
While he was away, a troubled, disappointed woman lashed out at the schoolmaster in Botolph, the colony’s capital, for failing to keep a promise to help her and her common-law husband by finding work for him.. The schoolmaster dies that night and the authorities arrest the woman for practising witchcraft, a false accusation, and murdering the schoolmaster with a curse.

So here it is. My so called “”secret, hidden formula”” I used to get to where I am today is: I went ALL NATURAL. Not a very sexy answer, is it? Well I have to tell you, a lot of times we complicate things way too much when looking for an answer. More often than not the solution to our problems is very simple. However… simple doesn’t mean it’s easy – far from it!
As for me, I don’t know how I gathered the willpower to do this, but somehow I managed to throw out all of my garbage foods (i.e cereal bars, cookies, chips and so on) and replaced them with organic, GMO-free vegetables, fruits and lean meats all within one day. I completely went cold turkey: I stopped using all of the popular soaps and lotions out there that are FILLED with toxins, and instead I made my own, or found other safe brands and options. A short time after my big lifestyle change I learned about essential oils, and soon they became a necessity in my every day life. They are such an important part of my life and have helped me so much that I have now written a book about them. The world needs to know about these oils, their healing properties and the overall well-being of the people who use them!
As for myself, I use them in almost everything. They’re my go-to problem solver, my all-natural medicine cabinet. No more artificial pain killers or medicine with a hundred possible side effects. Essential oils keep my food cravings in check, clear out my sinuses when feel a cold coming on, straighten out the wrinkles and lines coming on in my face, and uplifts my mood the days I feel anxious. For the first time in my life, I can finally say I feel 100% present and alive! I have started to love my body and I have found a true passion in helping others, hence why I decided to write my own books.

That’s when I knew I’d had enough. I decided to start searching for a better way; a way that has now proven to give me more energy than I ever imagined possible and also helped me lose 45 pounds of stubborn body fat in the process. I made a drastic change, 180-degree turn in all my habits.
So here it is. My so called “”secret, hidden formula”” I used to get to where I am today is: I went ALL NATURAL. Not a very sexy answer, is it? Well I have to tell you, a lot of times we complicate things way too much when looking for an answer. More often than not the solution to our problems is very simple. However… simple doesn’t mean it’s easy – far from it!
As for me, I don’t know how I gathered the willpower to do this, but somehow I managed to throw out all of my garbage foods (i.e cereal bars, cookies, chips and so on) and replaced them with organic, GMO-free vegetables, fruits and lean meats all within one day. I completely went cold turkey: I stopped using all of the popular soaps and lotions out there that are FILLED with toxins, and instead I made my own, or found other safe brands and options. A short time after my big lifestyle change I learned about essential oils, and soon they became a necessity in my every day life. They are such an important part of my life and have helped me so much that I have now written a book about them. The world needs to know about these oils, their healing properties and the overall well-being of the people who use them!
As for myself, I use them in almost everything. They’re my go-to problem solver, my all-natural medicine cabinet. No more artificial pain killers or medicine with a hundred possible side effects. Essential oils keep my food cravings in check, clear out my sinuses when feel a cold coming on, straighten out the wrinkles and lines coming on in my face, and uplifts my mood the days I feel anxious. For the first time in my life, I can finally say I feel 100% present and alive! About Stormbringer: Legend of the 23rd Century by A.W.Black:
In the 23rd Century, twelve-year-old June Anderson unwittingly stands between humanity and its doom. After a series of break-ins at her adoptive family home, June unleashes a power taught to her by Stuart Graves, her guardian and mentor who went missing when she was five.
Stuart raised June with knowledge of the “Stormbringers”, who were people with the ability to control time, space, gravity and energy. Some Stormbringers could manipulate only one of these four, others could control combinations of them and very rarely there came a Stormbringer who could master all four.
Taking on the persona of the “Stormbringer”, she uses the ability to create portals to track down the gang which is attacking her new family. Along they way she meets Boris Petrov, a child genius who links her mentor to the disappearance of his father, Dimitri.
Boris has completed his father’s work in personal stealth technology and armed himself with magnetic gloves and boots, taking on the nickname of the “Teslageist”.
Together they discover the frozen bodies of Stuart and Dimitri, along with four more victims.
After being captured by the gang they face the man who hired the thugs to capture their loved-ones. To their horror they discover that he’s one of the six frozen people; Doctor Robert Douglas, a brilliant neuro-scientist who has developed a machine capable of transferring a person’s mind into a computer. With his machine perfected after five human trials, he used it on himself and took control of a makeshift robotic body. His five victims have access to specific knowledge and materials which Douglas plans to use to take control of S.O.N.A.R, a high-security layer of the internet used by big businesses, banks, governments and military organisations.
The Doctor reveals that Stuart was to deliver a sample of Azurium to Dimitri. The Azurium is a newly discovered type of exotic matter which emits more energy than it absorbs. Because Stuart was unsure of where Dimitri’s lab was, he left the Azurium with June. The sample was hidden inside a teddy bear, which June had kept in a box since being taken into care.
Now that Douglas has tracked the girl down, he has finally acquired the Azurium and is able to power a stolen prototype walking tank.
June uses her ability to free herself and releases Boris; together they take on the tank but quickly find themselves overpowered when June’s newly developed energy sense is overwhelmed by the power surging from the Azurium. The children flee through a portal and are taken to hospital while the tank begins its journey towards a military base.
The children are treated for their injuries with biodes – genetically engineered cells with micro-electronic parts which greatly accelerate the healing process – but June is told she must rest for at least two days to let her broken wrist heal properly.
They are visited by a Father Knox, a priest who reveals to the children that he was given a bag of clothes and a letter addressed to June twelve years ago by the girl’s aunt. Just like June, her aunt was able to create portals. Knox was skeptical of the aunt’s knowledge of the future at first, but has since come to accept that all of her predictions have come true, which is why he has delivered the clothes on the date specified on the envelope of the letter.
The clothes are professionally made costumes for each of the children; June’s Stormbringer costume has an outer layer of scale armour which protects her energy vision from being overwhelmed and Bori’s Teslageist costume comes with an enhanced AI. The masks of each costume have built-in communicators, allowing the children to stay in contact over long distances.
With his less serious injuries, Boris commandeers a police car and pursues the tank.
June stays at the hospital to meditate and hone her energy sense.
Meanwhile, the United Military has dispatched four of its own walking tanks to intercept the prototype. One by one they find their tanks are being isolated and disabled. After being re-programmed, the Doctor now has control of five walking tanks and they continue their advance on the base.
Boris predicts their motivation to acquire more fuel before they run out and reaches the base before they do. He is captured while trying to warn the soldiers of the approaching threat, but he is locked away for his own safety and his costume is confiscated to be reverse engineered.
B.O.R.I.S, the AI inside the Teslageist costume, contacts June at the hospital. Despite her still healing injuries, she suits up and leaves the hospital through a portal. She finds B.O.R.I.S in a box, which has been locked on a store room. After switching costumes, June tracks down Boris but discovers the sergeant in charge of the base is fleeing with a box which now contains her costume. She uses her portals to board the plane as it leaves the runway.
During June’s search for Boris, four of the five tanks are attacking. They attack multiple buildings and vehicles, including the airborne plane. Infantry have been sent in to defend the base to avoid more tanks falling into enemy control. As the tanks run out of fuel the soldiers celebrate, unaware of the fifth tank approaching from another direction.
June evacuates the plane before it comes down in the countryside and she returns to the store room to change back to her own costume. Boris puts on his Teslageist costume and they split up.
June heads out to slow down the tank, while Boris makes his way to the fuel storage depot.
An alarm rings to signal the need to evacuate the base; one of the stricken buildings is a nuclear fusion reactor. When it explodes it will create a fireball wide enough to devastate two nearby cities.
B.O.R.I.S informs the children of the impending disaster and June sends the tank through a portal into a cell block to slow it down.
One of the remote tank operators alerts the handful of soldiers left to the Doctor’s true plan. Led by the sergeant, they head towards the server building which houses a live connection to S.O.N.A.R. Boris encounters the soldiers and goes with them to defend the building.
June lands on the reactor building after dropping from a portal. She struggles to control the swell of energy within and retreats to the ground when the roof begins to crumble. A jet of plasma bursts out of a hole in the roof, which June finds she is able to halt in the air above. With great effort, she reels the escaping plasma into a gigantic ball in the sky. The ball is sent into space, where it disperses harmlessly.
At the server building, the tank has smashed its way in. The soldiers do their best to slow it down while Boris tries to shut down the connection to the network.
The tank mortally wounds the sergeant and is about to kill one of the soldiers when its energy blast is deflected towards the ceiling; June has entered through a portal, unnoticed in the chaos.
B.O.R.I.S installs a program on the S.O.N.A.R server, but needs Boris to hold a cable into a port.
The tank decides that an energy blast would be useless against June and he aims at Boris instead.
June repeats what she did with the fusion reactor and steals the energy directly from the tank’s own Azurium reactor, disabling its weapon. After melting its head with the stolen energy, June throws the rest through a hole in the wall and she falls into a coma.
Boris takes the Azurium from the tank and flees.
June wakes up two days later; Boris sent her a letter saying he has traced the Doctor’s main network to Athens and that she shouldn’t follow him, since the Doctor can track her portals and this would blow his cover.
After a visit from the sergeant’s assistant in hospital, June is reunited with her Stormbringer costume and the teddy bear. She is also given another letter from her aunt.
The next morning her adoptive father, Mr Anderson, comes to see her and reveals that he’s the only one who survived the gang raid. In her grief, June reveals her alter-ego to him. Mr Anderson understands that she did her best and promises to be a better parent from now on.
Two weeks later June follows the instructions in the letter from her aunt and discovers a secret underground base, accessible only to Stormbringers and their guests. She’s the only person to visit in twelve years and races off to get her costume so she can contact Boris. To her dismay she discovers that she is unable to contact him, so she opens a portal to Athens, fearing the worst for her friend.

I live in a small village in the lovely county of Cumbria, although my books are set in Oxfordshire where I was born and raised. I spent five years serving in the Royal Navy on submarines in the late 70’s/early 80’s.
