Love, Heartbreak and The End of You. by Astone Jackson

Love, Heartbreak and The End of You. by Astone Jackson

This book of words is half of it. This is not only for me but for strangers and people who feel and never forget. For the past two years I’ve read poetry from my past. Open conversation with a version of myself from long ago. The version of myself who let a guy cheat but promise forever. The girl who broke my heart. To a kid I will never know and a best friend who went astray. Basically what I am saying is in this time I got to see who I was and all the parts I never laid to rest. So…these words and your name in here are a summoning. Letters on a Ouija board and reading them is a seance with the once silent ghosts that haunted me. Well, here’s your funeral. Thank you for coming.

Sylvanus: Book of Alce by R. P. O'Ryan

An ancient prophecy tells of the coming of the Promised One, who would restore peace and harmony to the land. When the twins, Michael and Lucero, are born, they believe one will be the Promised One.
The two are mandated to travel and spread the word of God, Eyu. Lucero travels to the outerworld, where he befriends Dancing Elk, a young Taloosh native, the next tribal shaman. Meanwhile, Michael remains behind to spread the word in his world.
Corrupted by greed, Sceagga, a powerful monk, follows Lucero. He tricks him into imbibing the dark life force, the grey pacú, corrupting his mind and turning him into a mighty demon, Sceagga’s tool for conquering the land. However, Lucero’s ambitions are bigger. Intent to conquer both worlds, he turns on Sceagga, who escapes the demon and returns to his homeworld. Now Lucero seeks the next powerful source of pacú, Dancing Elk.
Two years have passed, and no word from Lucero. Concerned for his brother, Michael travels to the outerworld seeking Lucero, and now Michael is missing.
As the demon’s rampage continues, the only one who can stop him rests on the shoulders of the young shaman-to-be, Dancing Elk.
So who did they say was the Promised One?

The Legend Is Born by Gerald R Knight

The Legend Is Born by Gerald R Knight

This faraway, pre-contact story begins with Helkena, a young, still untattooed girl enduring a typhoon crashing over the only island she has ever known. Her home is Wōtto, one of the dry, windswept atolls of the northern Marshall Islands. The newborn infant Ḷainjin has just been entrusted to her care by his mother, who has sailed her fleet of proas into the open ocean to save them from certain destruction.

Helkena, having barely survived the storm, must now travel to Naṃdik, a wet atoll in the southern rain belt of the Rālik Chain. As Ḷainjin’s surrogate mother, she will sail with the infant by outrigger canoe in the company of his maternal grandfathers. These kind men had recently helped the Wōtto Islanders overcome the terrible drought that typically follows a typhoon. With the trade-wind season approaching, it’s soon time to complete their voyage. The grandfathers begin teaching
Helkena the traditional navigational arts along the way.

Her goal is to get her tattoos on Naṃdik and, in time, to find a man there to take home to Wōtto. But will she entice a man from the lush south to her barren desert island?

Far from being a simple story, this colorful, romantic tale presents a surprising background to the lovemaking culture of the Marshall Islands. This is a free introduction to the early years of young Ḷainjin, the hero of the Legends of Ḷainjin historical literary fiction series

Money Changers and False Profits: A Suspense Thriller

About Money Changers and False Profits: A Suspense Thriller

“Like the man seated across from him,

the one thing the detective hated more than anything else was a liar,

especially among his colleagues.

Yet, here he sat,

on the verge of telling the biggest lie he’d ever told in his life.

Lying to the D.A. was, in his mind, a horrible situation.

Dragging his supervisor into this deception was even worse…”

New York, 1973 Racketeering Bureau, Leonard Street, downtown Manhattan

has been keeping tabs on the local mob scene for the last two years.

Francis Clavering, a seasoned detective in “Rackets,” husband and father of

three struggles with his almost obsessive-compulsive work ethic and wanting

to be a better husband and family man.

Hot trail of a low-level NYC mobster, Detective Clavering soon finds himself

in a hidden world where religion, faith, diplomacy and politics are intertwined

through a scandalous relationship between the Vatican and her bank, the

American and Italian Mafia and the Propaganda Due (P2) Masons.

Based on true historical events, this story is not short on debauchery, greed,

money laundering, lust for power, corruption, collusion and murder.

If you are a fan of the descriptive style of Margaret Atwood, and the mystery and

suspense of a Dan Brown thriller, Money Changers and False Profits delivers all

that while keeping the pages turning. The gut punch right around the middle of the
story showcase author Jane M. Bell’s ability to stir the minds and souls of readers.

Will Detective Clavering be willing to sacrifice career and family in order to bring

the richest, most dangerous global power players to justice? Pick up your paperback

or Kindle/Kindle Unlimited copy of Money Changers and False Profits today

My Journey…so far…

I suppose it was inevitable that I finally became a writer. Growing up, I was surrounded by the constant tap tap tap ding of my grandmother's manual typewriter as she constantly worked on a myriad of writing projects.

I grew up just south of Modesto, California, and graduated from Ceres High School. During my days of study at Modesto Junior College I developed an interest in psychology when I began working in a locked mental facility. In 1988 I began my 20 year career with the Army Reserves where I served as an Armorer, Drill Sergeant, and Combat Medic Instructor.

After earning my AA from Modesto Junior College, I went on to study at Sonoma State University where I earned my BA in Psychology with distinction, and did Post-Graduate studies in Neurobiology. During my post graduate days I worked at the San Francisco VA Medical Center at Ft Miley where I worked in a schizophrenia research lab.

Following my graduate work, I went on to work in the medical field as an Obstetrics Technician at a local hospital.

Today I make my home just outside of Modesto, California with my two sons, daughter two dogs and cat. I still try to find time to serve as a docent at Columbia State Historic Park in the Sierra foothills east of Modesto.
My Work

I find inspiration everywhere, especially in the lesser known chapters of historical events. I feel compelled to bring these interesting, hidden historical gems back to life. Our greatest lessons in life and as a society come from the successes and failures of those who came before us.

Join a shy neurologist Anna on a thrilling, twisted mystery about life, love, death, sex, and what it means to be human. She exposes cryptic family secrets after the tragic murder of a close friend, a crime she promises to solve herself and get personal revenge for. This is the story of discovering who she is and who she used to be.

What could trigger a chain of events that would take a couple of ordinary people on a dark, intricate journey that twists until the very suspenseful end? A lustful, late night skinny dip? A mysterious woman’s disappearance? A botched, messy robbery? An unsettling police interrogation? A cold-blooded murder? …or all of the above, perhaps?

Anna Smith and Bern Andrews are best friends, even though Anna is a neurologist with expertise in memory loss and Bern is one of the patients she is studying. Bern lost all his memories due to a fire trauma and Anna is working with him on recovery. However, Anna has memory problems of her own that she refuses to recognize. Unlike Bern, she has vivid and intense memories of her childhood and of her parents, but her shyness, insecurity, and reclusive existence prevent her from experiencing any new events that could become new memories. It is only when her father’s best friend is murdered that Anna steps out of her rigid life. His murder seems to involve a secret government program on memory engineering that Anna’s father had headed. Anna solicits Bern’s help in solving the mystery of the murder, and in doing so, discovers a mystery about herself that her father has kept secret all her life.

Keeping Minds is a compelling story about the good in people and the bad in people. A consuming story about people changing and people being forced to change. An intriguing story about how the human mind can impact your perception, of the entire world. A love story at heart, told with the brains of a mystery, guts of a thriller and the soul of a suspense saga, all carefully woven into one epic tale.

A sexy, sensual ride through the lives and minds of ordinary people being pushed into extraordinary circumstances. The story is an intense look at how the person you are, may only be what is in your memories…and in your mind.

Thoroughly by Ormond Ferraris with Charl Pretorius

About Thoroughly by Ormond Ferraris with Charl Pretorius

South African horseracing has a rich oral history replete with anecdotes covering the excitement and salacious details of what happened on the thoroughbred scene. But over the last few decades very little of worth has been captured as a written record for posterity.

In a nick of time “Thoroughly!” fills that void. Trainer Ormond Ferraris is a true legend of the turf with an illustrious career spanning seventy years. He is practically the last of the surviving doyens with the experience, reach and gravitas to make sense of such a vast sweep of SA’s racing history.

A rare bounty of insights is contained in these chapters as Ferraris recalls first hand, in typical no-holds-barred style, the horses, events and personalities that shaped his life in racing.

Old time racegoers will relish his reveals of racing scandals and fallouts with powerful owners.

Punters will glean pearls of wisdom as the sage recount’s tales of gambling derring-do, of spectacular betting coups that connected – or went horribly awry.

Aspirant trainers will better understand the nuanced art of getting horses super-fit and primed to compete.

Pedigree boffins can delve into the breeding archives, tapping into Ferraris’ enduring knowledge, to recognise how famously successful SA bloodlines were formed.

And buyers searching for that elusive diamond in the rough can learn from a master horseman about the conformation attributes to look for in an equine athlete.

“Thoroughly!” is a fitting collaboration between the usually taciturn Ferraris, into his 90’s and now willing to share a lifetime of accumulated knowledge; and intrepid journalist Charl Pretorius – never one to shy away from controversy nor averse to dealing with complex characters.

This book remembers a time when the thoroughbred was at the very heart of this great game; jockeys and scheming trainers had to use their wits to survive; and the monopoly that racing had on gambling propelled it into a golden era that may never be seen again.

Multiple factors have since contributed to a steep erosion in racings fortunes, all noted, indeed lamented in this straight-shooting chronicle.

Ormond Ferraris is one of SA’s greatest trainers with a record that withstands even the most critical scrutiny. The fact that people who worked with him (Mike de Kock, son David Ferraris, Mike Clements) have gone on to thrive in their careers around the world is testimony to his training methods and staunch life principles.

“Thoroughly!” is no self-indulgent memoir. Instead, it is an honest, at times cutting account of inspiring or deeply flawed characters and remarkable equine champions in SA, an alternatively magnificent and maddening country constantly riven by political and economic challenges. All of which makes it a compelling, can’t-put-down read – and a valuable literary resource for future generations.

Big Flame and Little Buck

About Big Flame and Little Buck

What do you do when someone you love is diagnosed with a debilitating mental illness? You can ask Emeline Bates, whose favorite aunt was taken from her home in France in the 1890’s. Or Clemens Bates, her son, whose brother Truman was sent to the Vermont Asylum for the Insane in 1932.

Truman Bates was heading for a career in the Vermont granite industry until he began to hear, feel, and see things that no one else could. He was eventually treated for a newly labeled illness: schizophrenia. Decades later, his nephew Pat Bates was a typical senior of the Class of 1984. It was then that Pat’s unlikely best friend, Dante Zuckerman, began to seriously worry that the depression Pat fell into that year would lead him to a life like Uncle Tru’s.

While there is no one way for a family to navigate their way through the complexities of mental illness, how they do so is greatly influenced by both the time and place in which it occurs. Equally significant are the friends and community who provide the support needed for a transition to a new normal.

Author Bio:
Why Big Flame and Little Buck? JJ Holbert worked in the mental health field in the 1990's. It was her first real job and she loved her position title, Psychosocial Rehabilitation Counselor, because it had so many syllables. She worked in a day treatment program in which she supported job development and training for adults with mental illness. She could be found more often than not driving the agency van around with clients on their way to pick up recycling, mow lawns, or staff a soup kitchen. In the way that only working side-by-side can, there developed a camaraderie and mutual respect that helped her grow as a person. She can only hope she had as positive an influence on her clients as they had on her. This novel is written in honor of them.

The Father of Jesus by Mary Leah Howard

About The Father of Jesus by Mary Leah Howard

A commentary about who the biological father of Jesus might have been.

This commentary is based on facts surrounding the conception, birth, life, and death of Jesus.

Knowing who Jesus’ biological father was can reveal hidden secrets behind one of the greatest mysteries of the past. You can better see Jesus in the era that he lived in; he was born shortly after the reign of Queen Cleopatra in Egypt and the ruler Julius Caesar in the Roman Empire. You can better understand the driving force behind the original Christian movement. It makes sense of why Jesus was deified to the status of “son of god” after his death.

Instead of guessing with ghosts and supernatural forces, you can have a better understanding of who Jesus really was and why he became a powerful teacher.

The author also attempts to show a parenting similarity between Jesus and the famous Leonardo da Vinci.

The ebook version will be free on Sunday, November 13, 2022.

About Elizabeth Bennet’s Gallant Suitor: A Pride and Prejudice Vagary by Regina Jeffers

Elizabeth Bennet will not tolerate her dearest sister Jane being coerced into marriage. Yet, how she will prevent the “inevitable”? Jane, after all, has proven to be the granddaughter of Sir Wesley Belwood, a tyrannical baronet, who means to have his say in Jane’s marriage in order to preserve the family bloodlines. When Colonel Fitzwilliam appears at Stepton Abbey as the prospective groom, Elizabeth must join forces with the colonel’s cousin, a very handsome gentleman named Mr. Darcy, to prevent the unwanted betrothal.

Lacking in fortune and unconventionally handsome, Elizabeth Bennet is willing to risk everything so her beloved sister may have a happily ever after, even if Elizabeth must thwart all of Sir Wesley’s plans, as well as those of Mr. Darcy.

Fitzwilliam Darcy meant to flirt with the newly named Miss Belwood himself to prevent the girl’s marriage to his cousin, Colonel Fitzwilliam, but one glance to Miss Elizabeth Bennet has Darcy considering everything but his cousin’s fate. Miss Elizabeth thought him a wastrel, but when incidents throw them together, they must combine forces to fight for love for the colonel, for Jane, and maybe, even for themselves.

Here There Be Monsters by Rick Buchanan

About Here There Be Monsters by Rick Buchanan

When Sam Martinez finds himself abducted by aliens, he thought he was having a bad day. When he finds himself in charge of an eccentric collection of fellow captives on a stolen spaceship, he realizes it could always get worse.

Thus begins the misadventures of Captain Martinez and the crew of the starship Schwarzenegger. Intent on finding their way back to Earth, they encounter strange new worlds, new life and new civilizations… and immediately piss them off.

Follow their journey as they navigate through bizarre alien customs, evade a crime syndicate with a score to settle, and match wits with a galactic government that refuses to recognize humanity as a sentient species.

Fans of Galaxy Quest and The Orville will love this story of a ragtag band of misfits, discovering just how strange the universe really is.

Author Bio:
Rick Buchanan writes science fiction and fantasy, which, considering where you’re reading this, means you're in the right place. He's an avid traveler who loves books, movies and sitting on his patio with a cold beer. Rick lives in Colorado with his wife, Debbie and a pack of overly entitled pets. He should also acknowledge his sons, Joe and Drew, who are quick to point out the pets were mentioned first in the bio.
