I began my writing career in the early 1980s with articles for several national and regional horse magazines. My friend Hazel wanted to break into writing novels, so together we wrote three: A *Star Trek* novel; a rather spicy romance; and, finally a sweet romance called *April’s Christmas.*

“Yeah, go on, tell us about ecology, insta kids, don’t forget to post pic afterwards. At least that’ll be useful.”

Born in Mobile, Alabama, V. H. Mizzell spent the entirety of his childhood there, except for the sixth grade in Summit, New Jersey.

He holds a BS in Physics from Auburn University and almost but not quite an MS in Mathematics from UAH.

He has spent thirty years in the Defense/Aerospace industry, most notably working as a Fortran programmer on the Burst and Transient Source Experiment (BATSE) and as a Systems Engineer for the Boeing Company, Lockheed Martin, and Northrup Grumman.

He developed a love of Science Fiction when he found Heinlein’s juvenile series in the Mobile Public Library Bookmobile. That was also the year that Star Trek premiered and his big sister bought a telescope.

As a knight-errant, albeit one still in training, with only a year of service behind him, Lance took his duty seriously. “You’re lucky you’re the runt of your family,” Lance grumbled, sitting up. He patted down his hair, brushing the chestnut locks out of his eyes, before taking in the full sight of the bouncing creature before him. “Or you would be tied outside, like the ones at my mother’s house.”

Percy gave a small yip, and the nuzzle became a nudge.

“Alright, alright,” Lance muttered, petting his horse’s long, flowing mane playfully. “I know you’re hungry.”

He also knew there was no point in trying to sleep when Percy was hungry—no matter how sleepy he still was.

“I suppose you’re right, anyway, Percy.” Lance yawned and rubbed his hands over his face. “We promised the princess we would save her today, and every knight knows there is nothing more important than completing his quest.”

Lance tossed Percy several treats and stroked his pet affectionately, before he put on his armor for the day. He pulled a breastplate polished to a shine over his head, slipped his feet into protective boots, and even donned a helmet to protect his face from the bright summer sunshine.

Before too long, he stepped outside his quarters. Percy came trotting eagerly after him. With his steed at his side and a grin on his face, Lance set out into the morning to see his princess.

“Princess Alexandra, I am coming for you,” he called out rapturously, eager to see his beloved once more.

I like to write stories of all kinds, including children’s. My longer books tend to be historical in nature, my next series being centred around WWII, and a young American who joins the Allies long before the USA enters the war.
My children are grown up now so I have more time to write, but also – of course – enjoy reading and the outdoors (and cooking and eating and drinking…)

Author Bio:
I am a U.S. Air Force veteran who served at the end of the Vietnam war. The Air Force found that I had a talent for languages, so they sent me to language school. I served as a linguist for a section of military intelligence and spent several years at the National Security Agency (NSA). I was very interested in police work and later joined the state police. After some time in uniform, I was recruited to be a hostage/crisis negotiator and trained by FBI hostage negotiators in criminal and abnormal psychology, criminal profiling, and in the techniques used to “talk down” a hostage taker or someone barricaded with the intent to commit suicide. It turned out that I had a natural talent for it and never lost anyone. I retired after getting an advanced degree in psychology. I wrote my first novel in the mid-nineties but found I needed to learn more of how to express my creative imagination eloquently with descriptive and believable character depiction, dialogue, story line, and background. I love the idea of providing readers with entertainment and an escape into a different realm of their imagination with my writing. I continue to enjoy reading immensely and my favorites are mystery, science fiction, and fantasy. Originally from the East Coast, I transplanted West to Arizona. Maybe someday I’ll return to the East Coast area. I enjoy a close and loving family relationship my wife, my children, grandchildren and my siblings. I thoroughly enjoy writing and love to read. I have been listening to audio books lately, science fiction by Jay Allan. I enjoy gardening and love to walk or hike. I like photography but I’m not good at it. I’m excellent at shooting, a natural skill. When I was in the military I engaged in Tai Kwan Do and earned my brown belt. I was only a young guy of eighteen years of age. But why does it sometimes turn into a problem? And what does it mean to drink responsibly? I want to share my experience and the wisdom God has imparted to me regarding alcohol consumption. I believe that every person was intended to be able to drink and be merry. Jesus’ first miracle was changing water into wine. If God did not approve of alcohol, why did He not transform the water into milk instead? Ecclesiastes 9:7 reads, “Go, eat your food with gladness, and drink your wine with a joyful heart, for God has already approved what you do.” By His grace, He has made known that He wants you to be happy and not struggle through life.
