Moving away from the legend, officially I arrived in this world an Iowan. Notice, unlike many from this fine state I didn’t say Hawkeye. Instead of attending that fine institution of higher learning, I chose the Harvard of the Midwest, Drake University. (Though some might say Harvard is the Drake of the East.) Where I completed a Masters Degree. After convincing myself I needed further education I completed my Doctoral Studies at Ohio University, in Athens Ohio. At this point, I also need to mention that contrary to popular opinion. Ohio is the Bobcat State. (Who would want to be thought of as some kind of poison nut? Even squirrels don’t eat buckeyes)

Excuse me had to pause at this point to recover. Patted myself so hard on the back, I got a cramp.

Yes now, where was I?. Oh yes, I just finished sharing my intellectual credits.

While employed as a Psychologist, I dabbled in the forensic area of the field. Not just child custody, but identifying and working with real evildoers. Most are ordinary people like you and I. (At least I hope I’m ordinary in that regard) But there are true monsters out there. How they got to that point is often heart-rending, but once they reach that point, they need to be put away to keep the rest of us safe. Not abused mind you. As that road usually led to where they are, but comfortable and confined.

Moving on. I met and married a wonderful woman, why she picked me or didn’t at least avoid me successfully I am uncertain. I would put her picture here, but she refused to allow it. Doesn’t want to be hassled by the paparazzi while shopping. That can be quite annoying I’m sure. The fact that we’ve remained together for thirty years is a testament to her strength.

Together we produced three children, two boys, and a girl. All awesome despite my influence.

I have always been a scribbler of sorts but took a hiatus from fiction while I practiced my profession. Retired now I have time to devote to this craft. Since taking up the pen I have been compared to such prolific writers as James Patterson, John Grisham, Mike Connely and even Kelly Rimmer. I also admit to being influenced by James Lee Burke and Kurt Vonnegut. I hope what I produce provides you as much pleasure as I get from producing it.

Hi, there.

My name is Kevin Jones, also known as Bonez, and I’m a creator. Notice I didn’t say writer or author. Yeah, there’s a reason for that.

It has been a life-long dream of mine to create worlds, these fictional places of myths and legends, superheroes and Saiyans where I could escape to. It’s always burned somewhere within me, like an itch or a hunger. At first, watching cartoons and reading comics was enough to transport me and sate, my escapist appetite. But then, that hunger grew. I knew I had to create a world of my own.

I was born in 1989, in an era of VHS and cassette tapes. I didn’t have much in terms of of distractions. There was no Internet, there was no streaming or YouTube. I had to take matters into my own hands. I began drawing in 1996, when I was just seven years old. I started out drawing characters from Dragon Ball Z (DBZ). I used to be able to draw everything but the eyes…man, those eyes were something else.

I’m a lot older now, thirty-two in 2022 at the time of writing this. I have kids of my own now. There’s a lot of really cool stuff out there nowadays. Movies, cartoons, comics. But I decided that I wanted to give them something special. I wanted to give them, and the rest of the newer generation of little black kids something to love as much as I loved Dragon Ball Z growing up.

In a way, it felt Goku and I grew up together. And that feeling was special. I tried to lock it down, capture it in a bottle, put it on a page. I got to thinking, ‘How do I bring my childhood imagination to life?’ I’m a professional tattoo artist now, so you can imagine that I still draw a lot. I let the ideas stew in my mind, I let them crystallise into the story you have in your hands today. It wasn’t always a straightforward process. Far from it, in fact.

I started writing this story back in 2015, just sitting in my car, bored…imagining a life with powers, like I used to do when I was kid. I guess always wanted to be a Saiyan, but then again, who didn’t? Ha. Anyway, at the start, it was based of myself but something felt off, incomplete. I brainstormed and wrote draft upon draft, but it never did seem to click. Until one day.

Inspiration can come from the strangest of places, they say. I was playing with my kids at home like I had done a million times before, but something had changed this one time. The way they were acting gave me an idea. I knew then at that moment the kind of story I wanted to create. Everything suddenly clicked into place.

So, I basically just took my family and made them superheroes. Pretty cool, right? The Pariahs are an outcast people who don’t quite fit into any group. There are different clans, different factions with varying interests. This book draws from many of my own personal experiences. Between each chapter, there’s love, hate, manipulation, suspense, mystery, thrills, action, and above all else…family. I hope you enjoy this book, dear reader. I hope you can sit back, relax put your feet up grab some snacks, beverages and escape into this world that I have created. I hope you love it as much as I do. I promise you’re going to be left wanting more after each chapter as the mystery unfolds.

I was sitting in a nice bar in The Philippines when a guy came in and asked if I wanted to be in a local movie starring local Filipno star Eddie Garcia..first, I had to make a punch that he threw look realistic,.. and so started my movie career.

Since then I worked with many stars including, Chuck Norris, Jacky Chan, Edward Fox, Linda Blair Chris Penn, Richard Hatch, Lou Ferrigno, Doald Pleasance, Denholm Elliot, Miles O’ Keefe, Shannon Tweed, Sam Jones and many others.

‘THE CLOUD’.

I came up with the idea for ‘The Cloud’ when my wife and I were at home in our living room chatting about taking our two sons on holiday: it had been a long time since we had been on a family holiday together. My computer was on, but was on ‘standby’ mode as we chatted. We were being specific about what kind of holiday we were planning, we were thinking about going on a cruise, so it was a bit of a shock when I opened my computer and started to receive ‘pop-ups’ advertising various cruises. I guess the computer was listening to our conversation, maybe picking up keywords from our chat. To be sure, we switched it back off and deliberately started talking about buying a new car. Then I turned the computer back on and guess what, I started getting ‘pop-up’ adverts for car sales.

I started to think that ‘big brother’ was real and we are being monitored, so this was the basic premiss for the story which is about the information we save and back-up to our computers and to ‘the cloud’. I wondered, “What if the cloud began to think for itself as it had all the technical knowledge to make it happen?”. This idea developed into a sci fi /romance novella which was released in September 2019. I tried to make a story with a similar ‘feel’ to the old ‘Twilight Zone’ or ‘Outer Limits’ tv shows that I watched on tv years ago. The book is a four hour read, so short enough for someone with time on their hands to get through, yet long enough for character development and for readers to invest in the story. As in most sci-fi yarns, the ending is done in such a way that a sequal could be highly likely.

‘THE MYSTERY OF YAMASHITA’S MAP”.

Was originally written as a screen play. Several years later I rewrote the story as a novel. This was published in hardcover by Book Guild Ltd in April 2007 and was a hot seller at the London Book Fair and across the World.

During filming of a movie starring George Takai (Star Trek, Heroes) titled “The Return To The River Kwai” I was approached by some locals and asked if I could get George to translate some Japanese writing on a map.

Of course I was to shy to ask him, but I found out that the map was supposed to show the location of treasure that was buried by General Yamashita at the end of WW2.

Years later my film work took me to Hong Kong where I did a bit of scriptwriting and worked in a number of local movies. I also worked with Jacky Chan and Jean Claude Van Damme. Funnily both films were about twin brothers.

It was here that I decided to write a story about Yamashita’s treasure.

During World War 2, General Yamashita (Tiger of Malaya), is said to have hidden the wealth, the Japanese Imperial Army had taken from the Asian nations, in booby trapped tunnels in the Philippines. Some of the treasure, including gold ingots are said to have been found. Even today treasure hunters are still searching for gold. It is still a mystery where all the gold went and some say that some of the treasure found its way to America to fund shadow government covert operations.

The book is loosly based on this legend and the story, is integrated with sci-fi and conspiracy theory elements, which makes it a fascinating read.

George Takei (Star Trek, Heroes) has featured “The Mystery of Yamashita’s Map” on his Japanese fan website.

In 2014 I was contacted by the producers of History Channel’s smash-hit series ‘Myth Hunters’ and asked to appear on the show as a contributor and narrator of the Yamashita Gold episode. To coincide with the tv appearance I revised the book with an additional 30.000 words and published it in Kindle ebook format as well as making the revised paperback available for print by amazon.

I’ve been a serious fan of Paris since the seventies, when my new wife Jan, already a frequent visitor, guided me on my first tour. In the decades since, we’ve lived in Germany and visited Paris many times, to the point that I feel as much at home there as I do in Sarasota, where we live for most of the year.

But we still spend part of the year in our favorite place, the fourteenth arrondissement of Paris, the Montparnasse area where Hemingway and the other expat writers lived and wrote.

When we left Frankfurt in the mid-70s we spent a couple of months touring Italy and Greece before we returned to Washington. We spent hours probing the relics of classical civilization and enjoying the good food, and in my spare time I tried to starting writing a Cold War spy novel. I was going to be the next Le Carré. That didn’t work out so well — I found the notebook, containing several pages of a mangled opening chapter, on a closet shelf last year.

I got around to that first novel in 2012, after months of pondering a very different plot, one based on the knowledge of Paris I’d accumulated over dozens of visits. “Treasure of Saint-Lazare” came out at the end of the year, followed by “Last Stop: Paris” in 2015. The third, “Finding Pegasus,” is a 2018 project. I think I’m learning how to do it and can push up the pace a bit, so I hope to have a fourth one out in less than a year, and there’s a list of plots waiting for later.

The good people at Readers’ Favorite, the big review website, chose Treasure as its highest-ranked historical mystery of 2014. Shelf Unbound Magazine picked Last Stop as one of the ten best indie books of 2015, for which I thank both of them.

The books call on the wordsmithing skills I learned as an Associated Press reporter in Washington and as editor of an English-language business magazine in Germany. Jan, a former Washington Post reporter, edited her own magazine, and together we wrote special financial sections for the International Herald Tribune (now the International New York Times).

I left journalism when we came back from Germany and went into the securities industry, then we moved to Sarasota and bought a business. When we sold that I was able to turn my attention fully to learning how to be a novelist.

My third book titled ‘When You Start Seeing It’ was self-published on June 29th, 2021. This book is a collection of eight Supernatural Thriller short stories.
