This tiny book is a fountain of knowledge if the reader sticks with it long enough to get to the meat of the matter which is found in the second half of the book. What I downloaded this book for and what most people will have downloaded it for is found in chapters five through ten. The first half of the book is interesting reading, but it’s not essential to learn how to publish with KDP, so I recommend reading the second half of the book first and then going back and reading the first half when time permits.

Gloria Eveleigh has three adult children and five grandchildren. She lives on England’s south coast but was born in South London just after WW2. Despite this, she did well at school and spent the first part of her career as a research scientist. She then studied to become a social worker, specialising in the area of safeguarding, and eventually running her own safeguarding consultancy. She is now a champion for survivors of abuse and uses her writing and regular posts on social media to ensure that the issue of abuse in all its forms is kept high in the public narrative. Through this, Gloria hopes to break down the wall of silence that often prevents victims from reporting, and in effect protects the perpetrators.

As a child when abuse was hidden, not believed, and not acknowledged, Gloria’s experiences resulted in an emotional life sentence. I’m looking for representation as the business side of writing a novel can be very tricky if you try to be a one-man army. I have just started the querying process of reaching out to other agencies.

I have a 4-Year Bachelor’s Degree in Writing and work as a copywriter in the freelance world. I have done that job for 8 years and have written 10,000 articles. I have a large online footprint in the business writing world.

I have always had a deep passion for storytelling, creating worlds, and writing about interesting characters having to make impossible decisions. I just didn’t know what was happening to me at the time, and what I was transforming into.

When I think back to my early twenties, I was that kid that would see something fascinating on TV or in real life that touched me, and immediately start seeing images, new connections, and plot points. I would then switch some items around and add in new things that I thought would make for a great story. I never wrote those stories back then, they were just thoughts. I didn’t know at that age that not all people just automatically do that.

As years passed, my vivid imagination brought me into the news writing world, the business writing world, the script writing world, and finally the storytelling/writing world where I am today. I think I have found my final writing home.

I’ve never ever had an issue thinking of new things to write about. In fact, I can take anything, and think of a story and a plotline for it with ease. I can literally take a AA battery off my nightstand, and think of a story and a plotline about it to write on. Whenever I see something, or think of something that would make for a great story, I quickly pull out my cell phone and write a quick logline on that idea. I have about 20 loglines in my cell phone right now. All in the crime, thriller, suspense, and mystery genres.

When I’m not writing, I’m thinking of new storylines I can turn into entertaining novels. It consumes me. If I do not jot them down fast enough, the ideas haunt me in my dreams begging to be outlined immediately.

I have a wife of 15 years, two daughters (12) and (8) #GirlDad, and two dogs; Kandi (a 4-year-old Maltese) and Krush (a 2-year-old PeekaPoo).

THE SMILE will be a permafree book – forever. Why you may ask? Here is the story.

As a creative person, I am an adamant defender of our freedom of expression. Over the last few years, I have noticed that in the quasi-democratic world, institutions, media outlets, schools, and universities ban books, therefore, ban ideas. Governments are even worse – they send the wrong message and try to criminalize speech and even thought.

When I finished writing THE SMILE, I sent the manuscript to a linguist – a university professor. I was looking for help and searching for a well-experienced editor of Inuit origin. I wanted to be sure my story, although simple, was well-grounded and correctly depicted the Inuit lifestyle. Here is her reply (typos included):

“Dear Mr. Darmonkow – My position, and that of people who work with Indigenous cultures, is that no one has the right to tell or make up a story about these cultures without strong and definite endorsement from the Indigenous people themselves. The Indigneous people themselves are the ones to tell the stories, but may also support writers from other cultures who have spend the very long time necessary to understand the Innu or Inuit culture.

The issue is ‘cultural and voice appropriation,’ you can Google it.”

To be honest, her answer bothered me. A lot. Not because it was related to my humble story but because, to me, it is wrong by default. Cultural and voice appropriation means that Homer, regarded as an enemy of homosexuality had no right to create the gay protagonists Achilles and Patroclus; that Shakespeare, a white man, had no right to create Othello; that Tolstoy, a male author, had no right to sculpt the character of Anna Karenina; and that “Uncle Tom’s Cabin,” which outsold the Bible when it was published, had no right to exist because the author was not only a woman, but a white female. The literary world is full of similar “inappropriate” examples.

In addition to the above, the idea of the book is mine, it is not stolen from a myth or a folktale. I created the book to add value to a culture that I do not belong to, but I rather admire.

“Freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression,” anyone?

A long time ago Marin was a child. He was one year old when his father passed away. His mother remarried and Marin was raised by his loving (but strict!) grandparents. He learned to read and write long before he went to school. Books became his imaginary parents and his fictional friends.
Marin studied nuclear physics, art, and literature. He owned an advertising agency for many years.
