Scientist by profession, Gary gives real science concepts a fantasy twist in his writing.

While studying for a B.Sc. in Chemistry, he met a friend who introduced him to fantasy fiction, especially TSR, AD&D type books. Brohdny Ricketts, attained his Master of Social Work at University of Southern California in 2019. Ricketts did most of his undergraduate work at University at Buffalo, he graduated from Empire State College with a B.S. in Human Development in 2017. As a mum of three boys I don’t have enough time to myself to read or write, or even go to the toilet in peace! A verse novel concept appealed to me as it is so easy to dip in and out of. Previously I’ve published several children’s picture books, written a dystopian YA sci-fi (that’s still in progress) but this is my first published novel.

I finished my rows and took out my Bick; followed his gaze.

“Looks pretty quiet,” I said.

“Yeah.” He readied his lighter. “But we can fix that.”

And we started flicking; lighting up the rows with grim precision, setting off a hail of sparks and hisses, retreating into the grass as first one then another then another piffed and launched—screaming into the air; whistling toward the target, exploding like grenades on its roof and in the bushes. Turning the suburban street into a warzone.

Laughing and carrying on as the carnage unfolded and at last subsided; the smoke drifting, the embers settling. Patting ourselves on our scrawny backs for another mission accomplished; even as shots rang out and something whizzed past—a blunt thing, a humorless thing. Something which struck a granite tombstone deeper in the cemetery and punched a dollar-sized crater in it.

And then we were scrambling: crawling as fast as we could—double-timing it toward the car as still more shots rang out and echoed along the streets; as bullets pocked the mausoleum and cut the air like knives. Until we reached the Charger and leapt to our feet, throwing open the doors—even as raptors gathered and encircled the car—at which I lit a string of M-80s and threw them into the group; and the fireworks exploded like dynamite, reverberated like shotgun blasts. At which the animals scattered in perfect unison and we peeled from the lot—en route to the Nunnery, I suppose. En route to Alexa.

It is through her that my love of dogs began. I was blessed to have Sadie for 16 years. During our first few years together, I began to volunteer at an animal shelter. Working with different breeds of dogs at the shelter helped me learn to care for them and train them to be respectful and obedient. I also became a professional dog trainer
due to the work I did with strays. I have seen countless first-time dog owners struggle with their new dog or puppy, desperate for reliable answers that will help them transition into gratifying dog ownership.
This is where the idea for this book was born. As I introduced my own children to their first dogs, I realized there is so much information and such a change in mindset required to be a responsible dog parent. Until you are responsible for your own dog, you can’t fully appreciate everything involved in raising a well-behaved and well-adjusted dog.
So, I created this step-by-step guide to help you survive the first few weeks of puppy ownership.

I am a South African female of 48-years old. I grew up in a time when everything explicit was highly censored and love was still sweet and dreamy – I prefer it that way. I have always dreamed of writing but always lacked the courage (I became a nurse, it was the “sensible” thing to do). Now I am taking that leap, at last, for the first time!

The old classic romances still make us all believe in, or at least dream of, true everlasting love. I hope to write classic romance novels for the 21st century. I prefer plot-driven novels. And what is a romance novel without an element of magic to it or if it can’t take one to another world or time, whether real or imaginary?
