Q. What inspires your writing?

A. So many things. Art, a photograph, a portrait, poetry, movies, songs, books, historical events, notable people, a friend, a colleague…and the list is never-ending.

Q. Why do you like to write historicals?

A. I guess mostly because of the nostalgia of the past. It is an escape for me to think in a world where communication existed only in real face-to-face time or in a letter. Social graces were not only an art, but a survival skill. Interaction with another person was downright intimate in a way it can never be today. I also find great joy in writing my stories. It is as entertaining to write them as it is to be lost in a book you can’t set down.

Q. What is your favorite quote?

A. “I almost wish we were butterflies, and liv’d but three summer days. Three such days with you I could fill with more delight than fifty common years could ever contain.” JOHN KEATS…1819 (sigh) Need I elaborate?

Q. How do you plot out your stories?

A. I picture the scenes like a movie in my mind. I go on long walks with my iPod and just process through storylines in my head. As soon as I get home I run up to my computer and jot down my ideas so I don’t forget. I’ve worked through many a troublesome plotline while on a walk. Solitude works for me.

Q. Who are some of your favorite authors?

A. JR Ward, Elizabeth Hoyt, Jean Auel, Carolyn Keene, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Edward Rutherford, Ken Follett, John Grisham, Charles Dickens, Jane Austen, John Keats, Robert Herrick…What I wouldn’t give to have all of those writers together in a room.

Q. What has becoming a writer taught you?

A. A healthy respect. That’s: R – E – S – P – E – C – T! I am humbled by anyone who wrote before the word processor and Google was invented. There’s no denying that writing is hard work, but to imagine how Jane Austen wrote Pride and Prejudice with a feather quill pen makes my brain hurt.

Q. Any pearls of wisdom for aspiring writers?

A. Write what you love—your voice will come through. Write every day—your creative mind needs exercise. Never give up your dream of becoming a writer. Everyone loves a good story and if you can write one, people will always want to read it.

As a child, Cherié Summers, dreamed of being a writer. And it’s in her dreams that Ms. Summers finds inspiration. At age eighteen, a dream she had about her favorite rock star, Billy Idol, turned into her first novel, Start the Fire. But, Ms. Summers didn’t get serious about publishing that novel until she turned fifty. Although she began her writing career by being traditionally published, she recently became a full time indie author, rebranding her first series with new titles, covers, and edits. For the book, Eternally Wild, Ms. Summers veered away from her first series to take a stab at paranormal romance. However, the book is still grounded in music. The inspiration for Eternally Wild also came from a dream. One in which Ms. Summers met the ghost of Michael Hutchence. She was compelled to begin writing the book on the 20th anniversary of his death and is thrilled with the outcome, calling it her “steamiest” creation to date. In 2019, she released a sequel to the book called Heaven Sent. “I thought Eternally Wild would be a one book adventure, but the more I thought about it, the more I felt Johnnie’s story needed to be told. When Michael Hutchence once again appeared in my dreams, I knew it was time to write book 2, in the Love and Lush series.” And recently, book 3 was released.

Writing is only one of Ms. Summers’ creative passions. She is also an avid photographer, specializing in portrait photography of animals, nature, and people. Another creative outlet she revels in is belly dancing. She teaches the art of Middle Eastern dance through her local community education program. She also enjoys traveling to music concerts and pop culture conventions with her daughter, Kayla. Atlanta is a favorite destination, and Ms. Summers’ dream is to move there when she retires from her day job. She’s not sure it will happen but for now, she can dream!

Todd is a veteran of the US Army, where he served as an infantryman (MOS 11H and 11B) during the Cold War. During his four-year enlistment, he deployed to Central America, Egypt (on Operation Bright Star with the 101st Airborne Division), South Korea (in Pan Mun Jom with the Joint Security Force), To Eindhoven in the Netherlands and Mannheim in West Germany (for Reforger with the 1st Cavalry Division).

Todd retired as a major from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office in 2012, where he began as a correction officer in 1984. During his twenty-eight-year career, he learned people aren’t always what they seem—and that most are capable of redemption if given the right tools—and perhaps a hand up.

His exposure to this amazing planet’s incredible people cultivated his interest in language, religion, ethnicity, customs, and food. These interests, along with his creative heroes and mentors, drive his imagination.

Todd is an avid consumer of words—especially fantasy, horror, and science fiction. A nerd of the highest order, he plays tabletop RPGs (Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder, and Starfinder) twice per week.
