Karryss now has some major problems to confront.
Through an Amulet that she cannot remove from her neck, she is the unwilling conduit for the ancient malevolent spirit, Saaluur Ahd Kaille. He is trapped within the precious stone and he means to return to life by consuming the souls of those who Karryss defeats in combat. If allowed to resurrect, Saaluur will rule Ethratu with fire.
Unfortunately, the tyrant’s physical remains lie on the sea bed protected by the largest living creature, anyone on the Scarlet Mare has ever seen.
The creature sank the ship that was carrying Saaluur’s casket to his homeland and the ritual of resurrection requires both the Amulet and the remains to be brought together.
Only a Stormshadow using the magical powers of a Darkblade can slay Saaluur once he is is fully reformed.
Which presents the second problem. Erun has no idea what a Stormshadow is or indeed how any of this involves him.
Karryss must somehow bring out the dormant hero that lies within the confused young man.
He must quickly understand his role in her mission and learn the skills and mysterious abilities that his kin are renowned for.
SPOILER ALERTS – CONTAINS SPOILERS IF YOU READ PAST HERE!
Erun is tasked to build a weapon large enough to kill the immense ocean beast but also to come up with a plan to bring Saaluur’s casket back to the surface again.
The whole undertaking is costly, and results in the deaths of Karryss’ crew mates and dearest friends, |Salina Swann and Hebba Crumm. She is convinced Saaluur is weakening her resistance by killing off everyone she holds dear.
With the blackening sky a portent of the imminent cataclysm, Karryss and the remaining crew make haste towards Kaille to complete the ritual.
There is an expectant crowd of Kaille dignitaries and revellers awaiting the ship carrying Saaluur’s remains but they are surprised to see the Scarlet Mare slide through the entrance instead.
Pretending to be the saviours of the day they tell the High Kaille that they witnessed the destruction of their ship and tried to save as much of the cargo and crew as they could.
They are led into the Palace where they are met by the King.
He is less welcoming and demands Karryss give him the Amulet as he intends to take the power for himself. She of course refuses and in the ensuing fight the King is slain and Karryss removes his heart to complete the demands of the oath.
The plan is to allow Saaluur to fully resurrect and then Erun is to deliver the fatal blow which will end the threat of tyranny and apocalypse hanging over Ethratu forever.
The ritual begins and Karryss is overpowered by the strength within the Amulet.
She becomes entranced and floats helplessly in the air above the ceremonial altar while Saaluur rematerialises and draws the trapped souls from the amulet around her neck.
Just as Saaluur unleashes his demonic minion Erun attacks but is thrown back by Saaluur’s power and loses grip of the darkblade. Instead he primes his Darkbow and takes careful aim.
The shot is true and speeds towards its target, but Saaluur is too quick and manoeuvrers Karryss into the arrow’s path as a human shield.
The arrow rips through Karryss killing her instantly but such is its power and accuracy that is continues on its way finding its mark in the middle of Saaluur’s skull.
With the quest complete Erun can think of nothing but the tradgedy which unfolded in front of his eyes when he watched Karryss die.
He runs to her in vane hope that he can save her but she is lifeless.
In the grip of dismay Erun plans his journey north to his homeland alone and takes one last look at Karryss before he leaves. To his amazement she is alive.
Unknown to Erun, Karryss is pregnant with his child.
She coyly reminds him that, during a drunken celebration on the Scarlet Mare, they submitted to their urges, and the young Stormshadow life growing inside her, has prevented her death.
Erun remembers the remarkable properties of the Darkblades cannot harm the Stormshadow.
They gather themselves and head back to the Scarlet Mare. On board they make preparations to leave Kaille and head, at last, to the Stormlands to fulfil Erun’s destiny.

The Author.
Aaron James Fyvie was born in Scotland’s Capitol city 56 years ago.
As a child, although not a particularly shining star academically, he’d always showed more of a promising creative side. His short stories being pinned up in class and on the display boards quite regularly. Twice in a row, he came out on top of the annual primary school singing and recital competition paying tribute to the works of Scotland’s national bard – Robert Burns.
After leaving high school in 1982, rather ignominiously as it turned out, and still a distinctly average pupil with distinctly average qualifications, his creative side began to blossom, developing his love for creative writing and also music. He’s a self taught drummer and, as they say in Scotland, ‘ No a bad wee chanter! ’
(Translation – Quite a good singing voice)
The musical side has been somewhat more fruitful with around thirty years gigging and touring the UK club circuit. The highlight was a rather hurried and bespoke appearance at T in the Park in 1997 when some other shower of hopefuls called off at the last minute.
Loving something, as he readily admits, doesn’t necessarily make it your friend. But with no bonafide writing credentials to speak of, aside from a decent imagination to draw upon and a love of the spark that ignites the tale, it was no surprise that previous, enthusiastic attempts at works of fiction and poetry invariably ended in a bin full of disembodied snippets.
It was as much of a surprise as it was invigorating, therefore, when the first whisperings of the idea for – The Amulet and the Oath, came from somewhere deep in the recesses of an idle mind.
During a long period of absence from his job with Police Scotland, the idea kept growing and developing, and gradually presented itself as a full-length manuscript; of which he is unashamedly proud.
The process of completing the book from its conception to the finished work is something that helped him climb out of a very dark place, and for that alone, It will always be one of his most laudable achievements.
The Amulet and the Oath is the first part of a proposed fantasy adventure series entitled Tales From Ethratu.
Book two in this project – The Bringer of Silence – is well underway.

The Adventures of Jimmy Crikey: The Emerald Lake by Wallace E Briggs

This is a stand-alone, fourth in series, of the adventures of Jimmy Crikey, the alien orphan who, despite cruel bullying, decided to make his home on Earth. He numbers among his friends the four witch guardians of Earth’s realms and the ancient Lord Oron, aka The Weatherman.
The underground Emerald Lake, the home of the Aquamites, is invaded by a flesh-eating, fire-breathing serpent, which is impervious to the magic of the four guardian witches. Matilda, the chief witch, asks for Jimmy’s assistance.
Jimmy accompanies Elwinn, witch guardian of everything associated with water, to visit the Emerald Lake. They arrive at a plausible plan to capture the serpents in a spider’s web net.
Their strategy is complicated because Jimmy cannot breathe underwater unless included in Elwinn’s bubble. Several of the strongest young Aquamites agree to act as live bait to entice the serpents into a lake in an extinct volcano’s caldera.
Once the serpents are lured into the volcano’s lake Jimmy, with the help of his starship SR3 and XRU, the intelligent computer/navigator, will trap the reptiles in a spiders web net, ready to drag the creatures into the cold depths of deep space.
Jimmy’s heart is captured at first sight of Annison, a young, golden-headed Aquamite who is also the daughter of Milton, the leader of the tribe.
During the operation to rid the Aquamite’s world of serpents, Annison is seriously injured when one serpent takes a bite out of her lower tail. She is dying from the loss of blood. The witches do not have the power to help. There is no time to get her to Jimmy’s home plane of Attalia for advanced surgery.
All appears lost until Lord Oron reveals his real identity. Lord Oron is one of the Lords who serve the all-powerful Master. The Master could save Annison, but he refuses to bring a subject back to life from the dead. Can Lord Oron persuade the Master to intervene and save the life of Jimmy’s first love, Annison?

A wonderful world of fantasy in the Jimmy Crikey series is full of captivating imagery. It is a stand alone book full of excitement for any young reader. The main character is an alien who has decided to make his home on Earth.
Dealing with subjects that many of our youth can relate to from bullying to building healthy relationships, Jimmy befriends four magical witches who hold guardianship over certain aspects of the Earth.
The four witches aid the main character to help him to battle off fire breathing, vile, and destructive serpents who have invaded the Emerald Lake. When the time comes with serious trouble taking place the witches can not help. However the ancient Lord Oron might be able to help.
I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful story. There are plenty of twist to the story from space travel to the Emerald Lake itself. Aliens, monsters, witches, and other characters all add life to a budding love.

Worry Thoughts was written with two little girls in mind who also had worries. It became a go-to item in their anxiety toolbox, especially at bedtime.

Worry Thoughts started out as a poem that I wrote for my daughters when they were quite young. It is now a beautifully illustrated storybook that brings the poem to life.
