Early years in England
Louise Kirstie Tucker was born in a lovely languid summer in Gosport, England. She is the youngest of three sisters and can tell you that being the youngest is not as easy as people may think! Her father, John (Tug) Wilson, was a submariner in the Royal Navy and her mother, Sheila, a home executive.
The family moved around quite a bit due to naval assignments and based themselves in Thurso, Scotland when Louise was but a wee lass. Later, they moved to Plymouth, Devon, where Louise attended the Whitleigh Infant and Junior Schools. She has fond memories of playing marbles in the street, swinging on ropes in the woods, collecting blackberries and walking down narrow lanes to sing in the choir at St Mary’s in Tamerton Foliot.
Moving country
When she was just nine years old the family emigrated to Cape Town, South Africa, to begin a very different life. Louise’s Dad began working at the newly commissioned Koeberg Nuclear Power Station approximately 40 Km from Cape Town. Initially, there was lots of sand and beautiful beaches and not much else! But it was insanely picturesque. Louise began school at Table View Primary School where she had to learn Afrikaans (South Africa’s compulsory second language) and also integrate into a new culture. During her teen years she attended Milnerton High School where she mostly hid behind a cool Eighties fringe and railway-track braces. However, she did learn a few things including how to play the guitar, a passion for art, English, and biology. And of course, she read loads and loads of books; from love stories to John Irving, John le Carre, and Mary Brown.
Career and Family
After school, Louise attended secretarial college for a year and thereafter began a career as a personal secretary. Following this, she moved into sales for a computer networking company.
In 1992, she married Sean and they have been inseparable ever since. Louise switched careers again in 1998 to a post as IT Research Manager for a large insurance company which she still holds today.
Things changed radically for Sean and Louise in 2003 with the addition of their son, Jack. Whilst on maternity leave, Louise was inspired by all the children’s books she was reading and acquiring for her young son. She began pursuing opportunities to write books herself and so began her life as a children’s book author.
Academic Qualifications
In 2016, after years of hard graft, Louise achieved academic success with a BA degree in Creative Writing (cum laude) from the University of South Africa (Unisa).
Things Louise loves …
Louise has a deep love for her family and her favourite thing to do is spend time with them. “Family” includes a spoiled white Maltese rescue dog called Toby, who is her constant shadow. She loves being in and around nature and enjoys gardening; particularly acquiring new plants (no shoe obsession here!)
In addition, Louise loves art and culture, reading novels (especially classics), and if she gets the chance, painting in watercolour. Although not overly adventurous, this lady loves travel, new experiences and the odd adventure which translates to having tandem-skydived, ziplined, and ridden an elephant! She is driven to be creative and her hobbies over the years have been many and varied, including: painting in watercolour, knitting, singing, guitar, organ, Scottish country dancing, Ballroom and Latin dancing, a commercial and movie extra, bird-watching and photography.

Eventually, he resorted to paid employment, qualified as an accountant and for several years held the post of Chief Accountant at Imperial College. When I begin a story, it’s usually with a “what if.” What if I could be there on a day when Jesus healed a whole multitude of people? What would it be like for Jesus to be visible and audible beside me today? What will it look like for Jesus to reign on the Earth? This is why I’ve identified somewhat with the genre known as “speculative fiction.” It’s not science fiction, because the context and the characters are all realistic, in my world view. It’s not fantasy for lack of wizards, swords and unicorns. But it is a stretch beyond what most of us normally see and hear in our daily lives.
Of course, this all works best if it comes with easy to grab handles, ways we can identify with the story. That’s where the characters come in, people like you and I, who stand stunned–or leap and laugh–at miraculous circumstances plunked right into their lives. While I’ve been told that Jesus can’t be the hero of my stories, because readers need to identify with the characters, I always want to test the limits of that kind of thinking. After all, Jesus was the first born of many sons and daughters, not an entirely different species from us.
I’ve been fascinated by stories all my life. I love to read biographies as well as classic fiction. I guess I came to favor fiction because it stretches beyond the mundane toward the unknown. Imagining my own stories–and even writing some–from an early age, I credit my maternal grandmother with instilling the wonder and fascination of reading. I still remember her reading to me when I was five years old, or even younger.
After majoring in writing in college, I diverted toward more respectable occupations than fiction writing. I had to satisfy that creative itch, instead, by making up stories for my sons. During those years I also became an intense movie fan. This may help account for the way I can picture my stories as they unfold in cinematic detail, even if I haven’t master describing all that detail.
After a long hiatus from fiction writing, I started again in about 2006, after a friend prescribed an effective way to meditate on scripture. He suggested that I choose a biblical story and imagine being inside it. In fact, I can remember this same assignment from tenth grade Bible class in my little Christian high school. When I tried it as an adult, I started with one of the stories of Jesus healing a whole multitude of people, and my imagination took off with the scenes that might have filled such a day. All my years of Bible classes, up through a degree in Biblical Studies, paid dividends in adding details to those scenes. And I was on the way toward writing my first completed novel.
Yes, I have started numerous stories that remain unfinished. The best ones, however, drive me to completion, compelling me to find out what happens next. Once I’ve imagined the circumstances and inserted characters for whom I care, and with whom I’m also fascinated, I feel as if I get to watch the story unfold much like a reader does.

True Tales of a Traveller Volume Three
About True Tales of a Traveller Volume Three
The True Tales of a Traveller series of short stories and novellas consists of several dozen real-life travellers’ tales covering three and a half decades. This is Volume Three of the series, and it includes three stories, Overlanding (Part Two), One Day in Bangkok, and Solid Gold, Easy Action.
Of all my travels in the 1980s, in terms of time spent, undoubtedly no journey made such a deep and lasting impression on me as this overland trip from Karachi to Rotterdam, which in total took just a little over three weeks. The journey turned out to be something I originally had never suspected for a moment it would be: an intensive course in the follies of racial prejudice and ethnic chauvinism.
The tenth story in the True Tales of a Traveller series, One Day in Bangkok is set in Thailand and the Netherlands. It’s a story of an ambitious travel plan thwarted by the kind of seasoned tricksters who prey on tourists anywhere in the world where the volume of foreign visitors make it worthwhile to devise schemes to relieve them of their finances. At least one of the schemes detailed in the story is still in use today, though perhaps in a slightly different form, and it even has its own Wikipedia page. This true account serves a reference and a warning, just as valid for travellers who have been on the road for years as it is for those setting off overseas for the first time.
The eleventh story in the series overall and the last story in this book, Solid God, Easy Action, is probably the most unique story of the whole series, for it involves a very unusual kind of work I was engaged in for several months in east Asia, and this kind of work seems to have long since disappeared, almost without a trace.
When writing this story, I tried to find other accounts or references to this kind of work, to be sure I hadn’t missed any salient facts in this writing. The only references to this kind of work I could find online had been written years after I had been involved in it, at a time when it had already become unprofitable. And none of these references went into this kind of work in any depth. None mentioned the pleasures and the risks that came with this kind of work, which I thought was unfortunate because there were plenty of both.
