  1. Cosmic Girl: Rising Up by R S J Gregory

Cosmic-Girl-cover-thumnail-mediumAbout Cosmic Girl: Rising Up by R S J Gregory:

It’s amazing, how something so simple as getting up out of bed can change your life.
If I had stayed in bed, and not gone on that school trip, my life would have been so different.
But I did get up, and I did go on that school trip. My life will never be the same again.
I will never be the same, and the world will bear witness to that change.
But I didn’t know what was coming my way as I stared out of the school bus at the pine trees as we drove by. I wasn’t thinking about anything dramatic.
I was just looking forward to a nice thanksgiving dinner when I got back.
But something was set in motion that day that I was powerless to prevent.
I was only sixteen, and still in a wheelchair back then. I had no idea what was about to happen.
A field trip to Washington D.C., what could happen?
    This is my story.
    Who am I?
    I’m Cosmic Girl.

Britney Brookes was just an ordinary sixteen-year old girl who couldn’t walk.
But when Britney and her school friends are kidnapped and experimented on, they are given extraordinary powers.
When they break free and tell the police about their kidnapping, they and the F.B.I. find no leads to pursue, just some dead bodies.
Britney vows to find the shadowy figure behind it all, and begins her own investigation.
Back home in Chicago, she creates a costume, and gives herself a new name.
    Cosmic Girl.
    Then her search begins.
But this is more than just a thirst for justice. This is personal.

    Author Bio:
41 years young, married, and I have a very young precocious daughter.
I love travelling. I’ve been to Switzerland, Ireland, South Africa (numerous times), I’ve been all over the United States, and I’ve been to Hawaii twice. Hawaii is beautiful, and I would love to live there one day.
I am the youngest of three, one older sister and one older brother. I am originally from Bristol, England. My mother was Irish, and my dad is English/Welsh. So I’m a bit of a mixed blend. People always comment about my accent, as I don’t sound British. They usually think I’m Canadian or American. It amuses me.
I began writing in 2008, after I had recovered from Cancer (Hodgkin’s Lymphoma). A scare like that really makes you think about your life. I certainly reevaluated mine. I read more. Lots. After finishing Stephenie Meyer’s Breaking Dawn, inspiration struck. Stephenie was a housewife when she wrote Twilight. The only thing that qualified her as a writer, was that she had a story to tell, and she wrote it. If she can do it, then why can’t I? Seems quite arrogant looking back on it, but that’s how I started. I wrote some short stories, poetry, and a rough draft of what would become Cosmic Girl. Then in 2010 I attended a Creative Writing course with Maggie Hamand at the Groucho Club in Soho London, for six weeks. It was this course that cemented the desire in me to become an author. I knew I had it in me to write, and I had lots of stories to tell.
In April 2014 my first novel, Cosmic Girl: Rising Up, became available on Amazon. And so my journey has begun.

  2. Surrender to Fate by Jacelyn Rye

SurrenderToFate_Ebook_2000-1About Surrender to Fate by Jacelyn Rye:

Some say fate holds the cards. But what if love deals the hand? No love goes untested. Ever. Indeed, true love is left to prove itself. And that is exactly where fate steps in to play the game.

For William and Sarah, that game begins with growing up, in the unspoiled mountains of Colorado. In a time and space as clear as the Rocky Mountain skies above, these young souls together learn about life, what matters most, what endures, what doesn’t, and about love. Innocent young love moves ever so surely toward lives they both can picture, lives spent loving each other in a place they know so well and cherish.

Will and Sarah are ecstatically swept away in the swells of new love. And it is in their rarefied bliss that they make the fragile promise of first love, a promise that fate will soon rock and pound into doubt, guilt, and epiphany.

Unexpected and unprepared, these young lovers are suddenly torn apart, first by distance, and then by the far greater pressures of temptation that test the very fidelity of their heart-held promise. No longer able to console each other, hold each other, touch each other, they face the inevitable decision: move on to other loves, or cling to the faith that they will someday be together, again.

Will and Sarah stare down an unknown path, sensing destiny will not wait long before it comes to take them. Wracked with doubt, they wonder if their love was real. Caged by guilt, they both feel tempted by others intent on stealing their hearts.

Fate plays hardest when love is tested. And Will and Sarah are no exception, letting go of their happy past to embrace hope for an uncharted future. Love plays hardest when fate tests. And so it is, even through their trials of the heart, Will and Sarah never really stop loving each other. Theirs is a love so real and pure that each just wants the other to find happiness, even if it’s with another.

But fate does not surrender so easily. Dealing blow upon blow, both Will and Sarah are each struck by jolting events that take them to the very edge of life, itself.

Sarah and Will hold tightly to their past, but steadfast promises begin to wane. Life continues, filled with romance, drama, and two souls yearning to understand the challenges brought with coming of age, and learning that fate is ultimately in control. What happens to love when life is on the line? Can they both relinquish control when love is on the line? Will fate even allow them to find out?

    Author Bio:
Jacelyn Rye is many things. She can be as alluring as the love that flows from her pen: pure, honest, simple. But then, like a storm that suddenly appears over the mountain, she can also have you running for shelter where there’s no place to hide. Like life, itself, Jacelyn delivers the hard with the soft, the pain with the joy, the instant with the forever. All of it, for a reason. And it’s there that one can best enter her life. Growing up in the blue sky country of Colorado doesn’t leave an impression, it becomes a lifeblood. For Jacelyn, the clarity of that truth flows through her stories, her characters and her inherent spirituality that somehow knows faith, in the end, triumphs over despair. And then, there’s serendipity. To know Jacelyn is to accept a dance with chance. She accepted one such chance when she moved from her beloved Colorado to an unknown life awaiting her in Southern California, where she happily lives today. In the quiet mornings, you’ll find Jacelyn savoring her coffee, outside. To her, it’s all about listening, breathing in, appreciating being here for another day. And of course, there’s time spent in the mountains, fishing, wading in creeks with the people she loves. Curiously, this girl who comes from the mile-high mountains, still fears the miles-deep ocean she frequently visits, but only to sink her toes in the hot sand and watch, in awe and respect, the thundering surf. On any given day, be it in the mountains, at the beach, or on her terrace, Jacelyn is dreaming and writing, her way of sharing something meaningful with those who come to know her through her stories.

  3. Surviving Abe – A Climate Fiction Novel by J.Z. O’Brien

    surviving-abeAbout Surviving Abe – A Climate Fiction Novel by J.Z. O’Brien:

When meteorological events align and launch Winter Storm Abe on an unprepared populace, the U.S. struggles during the worst megastorm in its history. As the weather worsens, radical environmentalists exploit the natural disaster with cyber attacks designed to disrupt America’s supplies of fuel, food, and electrical power. Societal conditions deteriorate, and the U.S. Government is quick to declare martial law, but slow to deliver relief supplies. Only those skilled at survival will endure this one-two punch to the soft underbelly of a technologically dependent civilization.

While elk hunting in Colorado’s Rockies, Gus catches on that he is fast becoming snowbound in a high-altitude blizzard. Making his way out of the mountains, Gus encounters critters that help and characters that kill.

On a cross-country bicycle trek, Andy gets glazed over in an East Texas ice storm. Trapped at a roadside convenience store with the farmer’s daughter might be the stuff of dreams, if it didn’t include a jealous ex-boyfriend, big-city gangs, and hungry cattle rustlers.

Tess, solo sailing on the Chesapeake Bay, is caught in rapidly changing climates, both meteorological and political. As a female on her own, deadly heat waves and tornadoes aren’t the only dangers she has to face, and Abe isn’t the only adversarial male to show up on her radar.

    Author Bio:
J.Z. O’Brien was born and raised in the high-country, ranching community of North Park, Colorado, where his fondness for wide-open spaces began. Serving in the Marines for eight years, sailing from Maine to Seattle, pedaling a bicycle from Galveston, Texas, to Vancouver, Canada, and back, J.Z. has been on some interesting detours while pursuing his romance with empty expanses; all at the mercy of the weather.

Currently, J.Z. and his wife, Cheryl, live in California during the winter months and Grand Junction, Colorado, for the rest of the year, as he realizes his life-long goal of writing stories. Surviving Abe, as his debut novel, will be followed by other adventure stories.
