What if Edgar Allan Poe did not die in Baltimore as a drunk in the gutter? What he were, instead, murdered?

In post Civil War New York City, Detective Pat O’Malley is living inside Poe’s Cottage in the Bronx. O’Malley is haunted by Poe one night, and the detective finds a strange note. As a result, O’Malley decides to prove that Edgar Allan Poe did not die in Baltimore from an alcoholic binge but was, instead, murdered. O’Malley quickly becomes embroiled in a “cold case” that thrusts him into the lair of one of the most sinister and ruthless killers in 1865 New York City.

Jim Musgrave’s “Forevermore” is a quick read in four acts that will keep your mind razor sharp trying to solve the mystery of Poe’s murder. Pat O’Malley must first find out how to become intimate with females before he can discover the final clue in this puzzle of wits, murder and romance.

˃˃˃ Mini-Mystery in the Manner of Poe
“If any literary work is too long to be read at one sitting, we must be content to dispense with the immensely important effect derivable from unity of impression for, if two sittings be required, the affairs of the world interfere, and everything like totality is at once destroyed.” Edgar Allan Poe

˃˃˃ Kindle Book Review (Carol Piner)
I adore Edgar Allan Poe and when I started “Forevermore” by Jim Musgrave I thought, “Oh no…another book about how bad Poe was.” Was I in for a marvelous shock! The author, Jim Musgrave, envisioned a young man who admired Poe, even lived in his cottage, and wished to find out what Poe died of, why and who was responsible for the death of the dark poet.

Delving into Poe’s life just before he died, Patrick O’Malley began his quest into Poe’s death. The search for the truth led him to many famous writers such as Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, who hated Poe. John Anderson, the owner of a tobacco shop, who violated a young woman who worked for him, is another. She was the famous “Mary” from one of Poe’s novels. O’Malley was told Anderson paid Poe to write the tale to avoid suspicion regarding her death. Oddly enough, John Anderson lived in Sleepy Hollow made famous by the tale of the “Headless Horseman”. Other famous names were sprinkled throughout this mystery. Literary references ran rampant and Musgrave was adept at making them fit into his tale.

You will also be introduced to the low life. McKenzie, who became a protector, was head of the Plug Uglies. I’ll let you read the book to find out what that means. I also met a certain Madame who introduced O’Malley to heights he had never attained before. You will find Joshua Reynolds a person who could have been the subject of Poe’s worst visions.

There is no generally accepted reason for Poe’s death. Some said alcohol, some dementia and others believed diabetes. We know he died in Baltimore in the gutter, dressed like a bum. Mr. Musgrave weaved a wonderful tale and came up with a perfectly believable reason for not only how Poe died, but also why he died like a bum. He was killed. If you want to know by whom, you will have to read the book.

    ˃˃˃ Portland Book Review
Most historians uphold that literary legend Edgar Allan Poe died from complications to his crippling alcoholism. But private detective Pat O’Malley believes otherwise. He believes that Poe was actually a victim of murder. In Forevermore, O’Malley sets forth on a mission of danger and romance to uncover the truth behind the demise of his old friend and one of America’s most important authors.

Adelaide-born David Chattaway has been writing since he was a teenager but only took his passion to the next level when he released his debut novella ‘Singing Sand’ in October 2013. Its sequel ‘Quietus’ quickly followed, released in February 2014 and not long after Chattaway re-released the books as one, complete volume – ‘The Singing Sand Story’.

‘Singing Sand’ received warm reviews – even making it into Amazon’s Top Ten thriller list.

Soon to be released, Chattaway’s newest novella – ‘Blind Servitude’ – is a step above his first books, with hand-drawn custom illustrations by a local artist. The young adults book explores a boy’s search for inner strength in the face of adversity and manages to linger on the magical while pulling at the heartstrings.

Although his already released works are being well-received, Chattaway views them as a warm-up of sorts to his masterpiece ‘Mal’akh’ which is set to be released later this year. The supernatural-fantasy opens the reader to a new world within our own and the endless battles and psychological warfare that ensues when good and evil collide amongst mankind.

    Chattaway resides in Adelaide.

  8. Daughters of the Evening Star by A.L. Jambor

Amy-redoAbout Daughters of the Evening Star by A.L. Jambor:

Truelock Manor is a mansion on the coast of Cape Cod. Its history reflects that of many New England towns until Mercy Pruitt Truelock, the wife of Stephen Truelock, master of the manor, vanished in 1796. Three years later, Stephen also went missing, leaving their small son in the care of Stephen’s half-sister, Leah. Their disappearance is an unsolved mystery that has haunted Esther, a servant at Truelock Manor. One day, as Esther lays dying, she admits that she is responsible for the disappearances and wants to atone. She begs the mistress of Truelock Manor, Felicity, to writer her story in a book. Esther believes Mercy and Stephen will be found one day, and she wants them to know how sorry she is.

A hundred years later, a nine-year-old girl named Mary Ellen Comstock, the great-great-great niece of Felicity Truelock, is given a diary. It contains Esther’s confession and the story of Mercy and Stephen Truelock. The girl is enchanted by the story. She believes Mercy and Stephen are stuck in purgatory and it is up to her, along with two friends, to set them free. Together, the three girls form a group they call the Daughters of the Evening Star. They meet in the woods to chant the same incantation that Mary Ellen believes sent Mercy and Stephen “away” into the future hoping it will break the spell that keeps them trapped in purgatory.

When I was a teenager, I spent two summers in Cape Cod. My memories of those summers were the inspiration for this series. I stayed at a mansion and during the night, I heard noises that convinced me the ghost of the sea captain that built the house was roaming the halls looking for his lost love.

I haven’t been back to Cape Cod. Now I live in Florida with my husband and two critters. I began my writing career three years ago and when I recalled that mansion on Cape Cod, the story of Mercy and Stephen Truelock was born. It is the second series I’ve written, and while it has a paranormal flavor, at its heart, it is a mystery waiting to be solved.

I am working on a new mystery. They seem to fill my head unbidden, and I have to write them down. I like to keep my readers guessing with twists and turns and interesting characters. I hope you will enjoy my books.
