She relived her struggles to deal with a culture and people that could not understand her.

   Author Bio:
   Raised in the high mountains of scenic northern New Mexico, Cristael Bengtson grew up riding horseback in the mountain forests and meadows surrounding the small village of Pecos, where her parents owned and operated a small power and telephone company. At the age of 17, she had a visionary experience of a loving and luminous Great Light.
   Married when she was 18, Cristael became the mother of two sons that she raised as a single mom. She earned BA degrees in music education and elementary education, going on to earn her Master of Arts in elementary education with a focus on the reading process.
   For two years she taught music in Sandoval County, at that time the third poorest county in the nation. She then became an elementary classroom teacher, teaching mainly third grade. During this time she studied voice intensively, and developed a lyric coloratura soprano voice.
   After her sons left home, Cristael left teaching and took care of her mother until she passed on.
   Cristael had her Near Death Experience in 1998. A lifelong journal-keeper, she began putting her book together about 2006. It was like finally scratching an itch in the middle of her back.
   Cristael enjoys singing. She is also in the grip of a lifelong compulsive book-reading habit.

   This book was the result of several years in Ensenada,Mexico aboard our cutter rigged Hylas 47 sailboat. Ensenada is, as most California sailors know, first port of call into Baja, Mx after San Diego. Most of the town is clustered around the harbor where working marinas like Baja Naval still service American boaters.

   I found this sleepy little town to be fascinating, full of endless stories, with a culture that was, and still is, struggling to gain a foothold in the 21st Century. The irony is that I started this book ten years ago, based on a local news story, which at the time was staggering in its brutality. This story is no longer unique as the Mexican Cartels daily murder with impunity. But, just as the cartels are not all that is Mexico, this story isn’t all about them, it’s about what happens when you try to run away from your problems and it’s about Americans, the ones passing through and the ones stuck in A Dangerous Harbor.

   As an author, I’m drawn to eccentric, unexpected characters: those who surprise because they hear a distant galaxy, see a different music, create their own fragrance rather than get hooked on a soundtrack; the child who has her own ideas about how the emperor is dressed; the lunatics and rebels who tell stories on the boundaries.    One of the attractions of writing fantasy is that it forces us to experiment with “beyond the box” thinking. In my writing, I use fantasy and humorous absurdity to poke holes in the expectations cultures create to keep things in their place.

   Fantasy, including the idea that cows might think, talk, and are proper heroines–perhaps encourages us to wonder about other creatures, people, and dimensions of thought that “common sense” keeps us from hearing and seeing. Possibly, we may even discover that there are cows within ourselves waiting to speak and be heroic. Our capacity to hear things that are, in our “common sense” world, unheard and unheard of, is one of the degrees of freedom we can preserve for ourselves and offer to others. And, for children–kids of all ages–these degrees of freedom are precious and worth nurturing. That is why I write.

   Amnon Jackont was born in Israel in 1948 and grew up in Ramat Gan. He was born to a bourgeois family that immigrated to Israel after WWII from Belgium and received a European education which laid emphasize on good manners. Yet, he soon realized that a well behaved boy cannot survive among children whose parents had come from different countries and preferred to settle accounts by fists rather than politeness.Since he was robust and physically strong, he had no problem dealing with belligerent boys.Yet apprehensive least he should harm other kids, he learned how to practice self-control.

   In 1966 he was drafted to the IDF and participated in operations which are still kept in the dark. He was first wounded when the truck he rode hit a mine; he luckily survived and woke up in the hospital with a broken back. Four years later he was wounded again, while in service in a hostile foreign country, where he was imprisoned for several months before being released. His military experiences continually provide him with materials for his books.

   After his service, Jackont became involved in a variety of business activities (insurance, securities and real estate) for over two decades. In 1997 he decided on a change of career and turned to the academic world. He completed his BA in the Department of History at Tel Aviv University in three years and graduated with honors. He then spent four more years writing a PhD dissertation. After the completion of his thesis, he began teaching prose-writing in a unique method, which he had developed, based on the dismantling and reassembling of theindividual’s life experiences.

   He has written eight novels, a collection of short stories, a financial-documentary book, and the biography of one of the heads of Mossad. All of his books became best sellers in Israel and some were translated into several languages including Chinese and Japanese. He is also the editor of some 200 books of various genres: from thrillers, to history and philosophy.
