   Toni L. H. Boughton has been reading since she was four years old. She grew up in libraries and bookstores; in fact, her one rebellious act during her teenage years was to run away from home – to the library! Toni has worked in libraries and bookstores all her life, and for many years longed to be a writer. Finally she decided to stop making up excuses not to write and just write!

   Reading “The Stand” by Stephen King at an early age inculcated a love of apocalyptic fiction in Toni. Reading ” The Shining” at an even earlier age set in stone a love of horror novels. Some of her favorite authors include Stephen King, Jeff Long, Justin Cronin, Robin McKinley, and Ben Tripp. She never misses an episode of “The Walking Dead” and is addicted to MST3K.

   Toni Boughton lives in Wyoming with too many cats. She works for the University of Wyoming, and likes to read, play video games, and escapce to the Snowy Range whenever she has any free time.

   I started writing at the tender age of fifteen, when I lost touch with my father due to difficult circumstances. However, I am blessed to say that I survived those times with the help of my creative writing abilities, which were later recognized by both my honors English teachers and some very reputable English professors. One of them, Dr. Virginia Spencer Carr, was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for both The Lonely Hunter: A Biography of Carson McCullers and Dos Passos: A Life. Dr. Carr was not only my professor and my mentor, but she was also a very dear friend with whom I shared many visits and a passion for good food and tea. Along the course of this friendship, she wrote a letter to my graduate program, a quote from which still tenderly haunts my memories: “I have known [this person] both in and out of the classroom…[they have] assisted me in a number of special projects…a very creative person…in ways of examining issues that had not previously occurred to me…[and] I can see where [the] compassion, intellect, judgment, integrity, and maturity…come from.” Striking educators such as Dr. Carr have made me who I am today—a writer and educator who got lost somewhere in the hustle and bustle of life. I ended up teaching physics and biology for a living, but my soul remained that of a writer.
