Where Awesome Book Readers Meet Awesome Writers

  1. Public School Teachers … An Inside Look

BOOK JACKET COVER---FDAbout Public School Teachers … An Inside Look:

Remember Mrs. Gardener … and remember Mr. Jacobs? We all love and remember our favorite teachers but most of us never knew what mattered to them or what might be going on in their head. Public school teachers tend to seem “otherworldly” … and different from us, somehow.

“Inside Public School Teachers” does just that — it takes you inside, behind the scenes, and into the life and mind of public school teachers. You will come to understand what makes them tick, come to understand their hopes, fears, and dreams. You will come to see just how much you actually have in common with public school teachers.

Ms. Susan Albright has mental issues but performs just fine in the classroom. Mrs. Lorna Brooks loses her teaching license because she refused to give a student a dollar. Mr. Cardena can hardly believe a student actually gave him an apple. Mr. Kelly experiments on his students. Ms. Messina is sugar and spice, and everything nice.

“In depth” pretty much describes this look into public school teachers … their emotions, their strengths, hopes, and their foibles. Public school teachers are just people like all the rest of us. They are a bit special, in our society … but they are just folks, nevertheless.

Keywords: public school teachers, teaching, schools, classrooms, an inside look, students, educators, school personnel, retirement, teachers, teacher’s retirement, teaching license

  3. If Mistakes Could Fly, You’d be a Superhero

Book_Cover_4About If Mistakes Could Fly, You’d be a Superhero:

It’s a given that at some point in your life there was a knock on your front door, and when you answered it the police, a detective, or both were crowding the door frame. It happens to everybody…it is assumed. Probably the police sergeant appeared at your door as well. Perhaps even a superhero in a ski mask and wearing a beach towel as a cape has made an appearance.

If you are like most people, you have probably wondered how such an incompetent and motley group found their way to your house in the first place, since all you had been doing was hosting a hot-chocolate party with your stuffed animals…or reading a book of short story mysteries. Well, in the maiden offering of the Jonny Gonzo and Money Man series, “If Mistakes Could Fly…” all these characters show up on your kindle, instead of at your house; there’s much less breakage that way. What they do once they arrive is something you will have to find out for yourself.

Listen, great literature is rife with angst, sorrow, redemption, jubilation, self doubt, and conquest. Fictional landscapes scan the scope from Zane Gray’s painted deserts, Jules Verne’s fantastical worlds, all the way to Dostoyevsky’s dungeons of the mind. Jack Kerouac’s Martin family struggled with dissolution in, “The Town and the City.” Dostoyevsky’s Raskolnikov struggled with the question of murder. The great writers all bring something to the table of classic writing, but with “If Mistakes Could Fly…” Kenyon Ledford has brought a food fight.

In the annals of crime stories, the quirky Jonny Gonzo and Money Man probably don’t rate all that highly. After all, what good is a shady superhero who really doesn’t do much other than a little petty theft here and there, and a self-appointed detective who doesn’t even have a driver’s license, let alone a badge?

Nevertheless, these two geniuses manage to show up at crime scenes at just the right (?) time, but they often create more crime scene tape than they manage to tear down. Fortunately, (??) Police Sergeant Joe Bidwell always shows up to restore order.

A crime reporter needs to arm himself with the following questions: who, what, when, where, and how?But from Money Man’s first heroic appearance at a crime scene in a subway, to Gonzo’s idiotic destruction of a writers’ workshop, you will follow these heroes through each of these crime stories, from adventure to adventure, and the only question you’ll be asking is: why? Why do people in distress call on Money Man? Why would anybody call Jonny Gonzo to the scene of a crime? Why would anybody even chronicle the events of these so-called heroes? Why won’t anybody stop them from ‘helping out?’ Why would anybody even want to read humorous short stories about these characters? Indeed, why would anybody pay for this so-called privilege? Okay, that’s two questions too many, but just what is their deal?

The truth is, nobody really knows what their deal is; not yet. Perhaps they all exist on another plane where the bungling stars of these short story mysteries are the norm, or perhaps they’re just the usual cast of characters you’re used to dealing with on a Wednesday night after bowling.

In this first installment of the Jonny Gonzo and Money Man series, you will not only meet these two characters, but will also discover a bizarro side of Batman and Robin in the bonus short story; Tasmaniacs! So, who’s that knocking on your front door? Buddy, it ain’t the Avon Lady…Click on the “Look Inside” feature. It’s like peaking through the front door while keeping that little chain on it.

    Author Bio:
Kenyon Ledford wanders this world playing a flute and showing up to scenes where a hero is desperately needed. Then he gets his ass kicked, because people like flute players as much as they like mimes and drumming circles. He then goes home, fires open the scotch, and relays his adventures using his imaginary friends, Jonny Gonzo and Money Man to tell the sad tale.

Kenyon has been published in Jersey Devil Press, Flash Fiction Online, Speke from the Harbour, and Short, Fast, and Deadly. Jonathan McEuen has recorded Kenyon’s song, “Roadhouse,” which will hopefully be released. Soon. As always, Kenyon wishes you a bitchin’ day. Hey, wanna jam to “Stairway to Heaven?”

    Oh, Forever Everton!

book1_72dpiAbout The Beautiful-Ugly (Book 1 of the Beautiful-Ugly Trilogy) by James Snyder:

The moment she felt her consciousness seeping back inside her, she knew where she was. She didn’t have to look. Or listen. No one had to come whisper in her ear. She could smell it that far out, returning…

When sixteen-year-old Connelly Pierce wakes up inside an unknown psychiatric hospital, with both her wrists slashed, she begins the arduous task of piecing together the events of her life that led her there. Her own cognitive behavioral therapy (as she had learned so well from them). Starting with the sudden death of her mother and father when she was six, and the only world she knew disappeared, literally, overnight. That’s when, with no known or, at least, close relatives, she and her nine-year-old brother Eric find themselves cast into the nightmare quagmire of government child protection agencies, and Connelly begins her incredible, fourteen-year journey—her odyssey—into her own brave new world. A world, she realizes, she must not only quickly adapt, but fight back as well, if she hopes to survive.

    Author Bio:
James Snyder was born in Memphis, Tennessee and fell in love with the cadence and sound of storytelling as a child, listening to the meandering tales of his Southern grandmothers and great aunts. While still a child, his family moved to Napa Valley, California where he attended middle and high school, and began taking writing classes at the local college. He left after a year to join the military, and was a soldier with a tactical mobile operations unit in Germany. It was there, while pulling a Harz mountaintop guard duty one night during a snowstorm, he had the chance encounter with another soldier that ultimately became the genesis for his military thriller, AMERICAN WARRIOR.

His second novel is the suspense thriller, DESOLATION RUN. In addition, he has just released the YA/NA trilogy, THE BEAUTIFUL-UGLY.

“Berlin Diaries” is his blog at JamesSnyder.net where he further discusses the backgrounds of his writings.
